How to replace bubbled shifter surround and globe in all Ba and bf 4 speed falcons.

I was able to retrieve the clips that were "lost forever" as mentioned at 9:50. Inserted some thin rubber tube into a vacuum cleaner hose and taped it up, then turn on the vacuum cleaner and fished around for a couple of minutes, and was able to pull them back up. Also, when removing the PNRD shifter surround, you don't have to force it. Use needle nose pliers to squeeze the bottom of those serrated tubes... there's a split in the bottom of them. Awesome video... wish I saw it before doing this job!

Thanks for taking the time to do this video. It was all I could find on the internet to show how to get to the auto selector cable that attaches to the T bar. I wouldn't take out the passenger seat and make sure u have a T50 socket. I replaced the whole cable but if u having already done it, it's coming, so do yourself a favour and get a couple of new bushes and fitting kit. About $20 each. Saves buying a new $160 cable. Ford dealers will not tell u this.

@@stuff7853 to go one step further, i assume to change out the gear selector cable i have to un bolt those brass coloured flat headed bolts from the other side of the floor?
@stuff78534 жыл бұрын
@@fucknbullshit It has been to omany years since i had this apart to remember how the cable went in unfortunately. But i kind of recall that it goes through a rubber grommet in the floor pan near the bell housing and then it just clips onto the shifter assembly with a plastic ball much like it does on the transmission end. I haven't changed mine though. Those brass bolts are most likely to remove the entire shifter housing from the car which may or may not be necessary to unclip the cable.

Did this today on my sons BA Falcon to replace the shifter cable bush. Stuck on the side of the road in Park. Didn't remove the seats, it's a pain to loosen the handbrake bolts & console rear side bolts, but it's not too hard. Not one screw or bolt in the entire console was tight. The only problem I had (still have) is the handbrake plastic cowl won't go back how it should. Everything else lines up perfectly except for that one piece. In that one spot it looks like the console has moved forward too far because the handbrake pins/claws that grip the drivers side of the console don't line up & adjustment at the handbrake bracket does not have any affect. But it cant have moved because everything else lines up perfectly.
@stuff78533 жыл бұрын
It definitely can be done without removing seats. Back when i did it i wanted to clean under them and also wanted the extra room to climb around the interior so it made sense to do it that way. Not sure i'm following you fully with the handbrake bit. Are you saying the boot for the leaver isn't sliding back on properly?

Excellent video. I have a BA XR. On mine, the light for the shifter appears to have fallen out of the socket. I can just see the light is working, but not showing the gear shifter position. It's a lot to take apart, just to put the light socket back where it belongs. Handbrake needs adjusting too, so I can do that at the same time.

Very good. Another "extension" to this would be replacing the gearbox to shifter cable as mine just failed (4/2017). Apparently getting pretty common now for the age.
@stuff78537 жыл бұрын
I may do one eventually, mine was giving me trouble when i bought it where the car would display N instead of D on the cluster unless you smacked it into park. I had ford adjust it up and it came good but they said it was at the end of the adjustment. Its been fine about a year now but if it goes again i'll pull the center console out again and film it.

@TheOneWhoMightBe5 жыл бұрын
Easy to follow. I am going to have to pull the shifter mech out of my BF since the sequential shift doesn't work and it's locking itself in 1st gear in any gear position. This is *after* spending $500 at the mechanics.

Excellent video thanks its made my job so much easier. One small problem I am having is relining the handbrake holes to where they were. the handbrake unit will not pull forward far enough to line up where they need to be. Any suggestions appreciated.
@stuff78534 жыл бұрын
Sounds like there is tension on the cable from the adjustment handbrake shoes. If you haven't already make sure the lever is in the down position for the handbrake off. If it already is then you'll need enough force to overcome the tension on the cable which shouldn't be to much.. You can bolt it back in a different position though you will likely need to pull the handbrake lever further to engage the handbrake.

Spent a while (one whole week) on getting it out and I find this after breaking three plastic clips under the seat and didn’t even think of doing the bulb for the shifter so know it will be easy cheers mate......also if I don’t have a torke wrench is it safe to just do up as tight as I can get it for the seat bolts
@stuff78533 жыл бұрын
Honestly this is the only time i have used a torque wrench for these bolts. You should be fine i just made a note of it in the video as a precautionary. Hope you got it all back together in the end!

You can get the surround out and back in on an FG at least, it just depends on how how much you persuade the plastics of both the housing and the shifter surround 👍🏼

I have just realised after watching your video that the pieces holding the shiter plate on mine are missing and new screws added..clearly so they did not have to take out the whole console. I also realised my cup holder is meant to have a lid ...lol...

Sounds like someone definitely made life easier for themselves haha. Luckily 6 years on and i havn't had to remove it again yet. Missing the lid or the updated version without the lid?
@kiarnastoon64752 жыл бұрын
@@stuff7853 Yeah I think after re-looking at it I have the one without the lid. 6 years? I have my consolde out every 3rd day at the moment..Im trying to get the car back to original condition after shes had 20 or more young 'that'll do' electricians (rough estimate) add and remove upgrades but it has left the wiring almost unrecognisable. I found an ICC earth yesterday spliced in 4 different directions..and Im wondering why Im having issues.....long sighhhhh. Literally every, and I mean EVERY bolt on the chassis was loose..I had my wheel lock up doing 140 when my caliper banjo bolt exited the vehicle and the caliper locked onto the mag. I have spent more time FIXING wires and doing up bolts than driving it..regardless...I love her more than my own children haha
@stuff78532 жыл бұрын
@@kiarnastoon6475 I was lucky with mine when i bought it, it was very run down but everything was original and untouched so the car has never fought me to work on. The barra swapped au i uploaded receantly was like you describe though. I had touched nearly every nut and bolt on that thing in the time i owned it fixing up other peoples rough work. Stick with it though, once you get through it all you end up with a car that you know very well.

@TLE1977A6 жыл бұрын
Dont need to pull the seats out. Thats over kill. And you dont need to torque the seat belts as you dont need to touch them. Ive competed a dual zone clumate control conversuon with the whole dash and steering column out with the seats still in.

you don't have to, but there's some fasteners under the console youcant get to with the sides in place and you'll bust them "popping" the innards out!

great video mate. do you have any easy fix for that stupid bloody thin rotating plastic thing under the cover? second BA and both have crapped out. get all bent and busted making it hard to move the stick into drive sometimes.
@stuff78537 жыл бұрын
Unsure sorry mate, mine never gave me issues. I assume you're talking about the disc that spins around the shifter when you push it into sports shift? If thats bent i'd say you'd have to pull the whole surround off like in the video. Its been a while now but by memory you can pull the whole thing apart from underneath so you might be able to bend it back into shape.
@wobblysauce7 жыл бұрын
Got the same issue, though I just spin the 'disk' with my finger and all is good again for a time.

Can you take off the top dash area? Want to completely restore interior plastic by spray painting all plastic areas
@stuff78538 жыл бұрын
If you mean the triangle piece above the stereo you can, its held in with the same type of clips as the trim plate around the shifter and will pop off if you pry under it with something. Be careful though as the sun makes them super brittle.
@Sleepeasy4698 жыл бұрын
stuff7853 awsome thanks for that little tip, will try that. Also wondering about all of the dash above that. Under the front window area? You thinks its possible to remove that to paint. Im going to put the overline ICC in, ibwant the car to look as modern as possible.

Piece of shit car, made as cheaply as possible! And this is coming from a Ford Guy... They REALLY dropped the ball on the B series, the AU's and previous models were fantastic cars, and easy to work on. The B's are just flimsy shit, if you don't remove EVERY piece of plastic just right, it snaps, tabs break... half of it is broken or distorted FROM FACTORY! And how hard is this console to remove??!! I've never seen such a complicated piece of shit to remove, and the idea of adjusting the handbrake by sliding the lever... utter garbage! My missus wants a Mustang, but I want to wait and see if a yank car is as bad as this end-of-the-line domestic shitbox before we throw down our hard-earned.
