Dr. Daya Shankar Shrivastava explains, "Beneficial insects contribute significantly to the agricultural ecosystem. While pests may trouble farmers, the population of beneficial insects is steadily declining. We know that in the environment we inhabit, if there are no allies, enemies will undoubtedly cause us significant harm.
He further states, "In some cases, there seems to be no allies at all, with a ratio of ten enemies to one friend. However, it is said that if the pest defender ratio, meaning the ratio of enemies to friends, is 2:1, indicating two enemies and one friend, then you do not need any pesticides or chemicals. Because those friends are capable of combating your enemies. We also need to understand that as we strive to increase agricultural production after the Green Revolution, we have used numerous chemical pesticides.
Today, farmers face a significant concern that not only is production decreasing, but also the soil and the environment are deteriorating rapidly. While increasing production is a concern, we also need to strengthen and protect our environmental system, which is a significant challenge.
The imbalance in agriculture will undoubtedly show its adverse effects in the future. Butterflies, bees, ladybugs, or other friendly insects are present around us. If they disappear, what will happen to agriculture? We must maintain the balance of friendly and harmful insects in our fields.
It's essential to maintain the right balance between friendly and harmful insects. If your village has as many allies as enemies, then you don't need to worry. However, today, we see that there are hardly any allies, resulting in harmful pests damaging our crops. Chemical methods for controlling them are no longer effective as they have developed resistance. To avoid such situations, we need to implement the same system again.
Understanding the economics of flowers is crucial. Marigold flowers are sold everywhere, in all seasons and during all occasions. There is always demand for them at weddings, ceremonies, and events, and even today, many flowers come to us from West Bengal; however, there are ample opportunities in Uttar Pradesh as well.
Their market is always open, and there are many varieties of marigold, some with oil and some with flowers. So, you can plant them on the borders. Tuberose and gladiolus can be excellent options for you because they are widely used in weddings and parties.
The benefit of planting these flowers is that they can become a source of income for years. Initially, if you sell a stick for four to five rupees and you have one lakh plants, you can earn four to five lakh rupees. You don't need to invest much to plant one lakh bulbs initially, and you can increase them later. After a few days, you will have a large number of plants, and you will have many sticks. You can earn a good income by trading these sticks and also by doing business with the plants.

It was an eye opening session. Sir has presented the real picture of Farms in India. Several MNCs are trying to make their monopoly in several seeds as sir mentioned today our don’t have the regional seeds available to them. They are even dependent on these MNCs to buy the seeds. Really very drastic situation it is. But we can together make India self reliant in every field. Just need to adopt these techniques in our fields.
