Maturity is when you realize that the real evil and man behind all these games wasn't Bhallaladeva, it was his father who used his own son and manipulated a poor child from his childhood just because he wasn't given the throne so wanted to feel powerful by making his son the king. I truly sympathies with Bhallaladeva after knowing that there were countless of times when he tried to be a good person and get out of his father's game but sadly he didn't. His past doesn't define the things he did but gives us a context of what happened even before Bahubali the beginning and what led Bhalla to this point. Trust me, just watch "Baahubali: The Lost Legends" and you'll get more information about the characters and of course you'll see what a good person Bhalla used to be. He's a really well written character but he does look so hateable without context.

One thing i loved about the female characters is that they are written in such a way that the traits which make us feel like they are strong characters in the movie are the same traits that led us to their doom...Sivagami and Devsena are both confident and headstrong and kinda arrogant but it comes from the fact that their decisions have always been right but all these qualities ended up being Achilles heel for both of them since they are not willing to stand down first and talk it out..their pride was their ultimate downfall and that's writing female characters with respect, it doesnt set up unrealistic expectations with them being right all the time but make them complex humans prone to errors that come from qualities that are from the good traits of their personality
@OfficialMediaKnights Жыл бұрын
What a great comment, it's always great to see you pop up in our comment section! Absolutely agreed - so many movies fall into the trap of trying to write a 'perfect' female character in the name of 'empowerment'. But all that does is strip us from our nuances. I absolutely loved Shivagami and Devsena as characters - fierce, headstrong, a little too hotheaded. Adding 'faults' like these and showing them in different contexts adds layers and realism to characters and when that happens on screen, it truly is magic!!

anyone who's wondering why he had to act cool with a weapon before dying, it's not because he wanted to act cool, its because in ancient India anyone who was a Kshatriya(Ruling/warrior Clan) wasn't supposed to die without a weapon in their hand, else it's disgraceful for their identity.

Few other details you guys and other audiences might have missed are 1. The director has shown 5 elements in his film, you can catch them in 1st movie when mahendra Bahubali goes to palace he crosses all 5 elements i.e. air, sky, fire, earth, water. 2. Small Easter egg - in the starting of final fight with pindari/bandits in kingdom of devasena, when Bahubali removes sword from 3-4 people at once, he then shrugs it you can actually see the number 2 formed with blood denoting the movie name 3. If you notice, most of the characters dies in a direct or indirect way of their karma, Queen mother gifts bhalla a bow and gets killed with bow Pindari/bandits killed their victims by drowning them in water, and they themselves got killed due to water Bhalla's son puts his foot on bahubali's mother's head and gets killed by Bahubali with his head being decapitated 4. Similarities between Bahubali son father duo Both were not raised by their own mother. Both fell for lady from kuntala kingdom. Both of them had name shiva/shivu/shivudu at some point. Both of them fell in love with their ladies when they witnessed them fighting. Both of them decapitated heads of person who tortured or insulted devasena Both of them save their mother during the walking ritual 5. In 2nd part during rituals, 1st time a demon statue is burned, 2nd time a real demon is burned. 6. Small detail- during erecting gold statue red powder is placed to reduce the shock of the statue which can damage the statue itself 7. While entering mahismati, the ship in which Bahubali and devasena came have kuntala's flag which gets broken due to elephants foot, showing kuntala's reign ends here. 8. The place where the song takes place between mahendra bhahubali and Avantika in the 1st movie is the palace of fallen kuntala kingdom 9. You can actually see the map of all the important places described in both movies in the opening credits of the 1st movie. 10. Now the MOST EPIC DETAIL, both the weapons, the big stone throwing machine used by bahubali and the people cutter used by bhallaldeva in 1st part war were actually invented during the time of Ajatshatru (492-460 BCE) ( it is the same time period around which Gautam Buddha lived (founder of Buddhism))

Sivagami tells Kattappa that if you don't kill Baahubali they might have to do themselves. Since, Katappa being a slave to Kingdom doesn't want people think that their own family members killed Baahubali. So he agrees to do himself so the taint of killing baahubali doesn't reflect on King or Queen. I think that's the best option Director SS Rajamouli could pull off. 😊

Wow this was such a great breakdown and analysis! Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to write this! She is certainly a beautifully written character - she has her strengths and her flaws which is always great to watch! I think we both looked at it from more of an emotion point of view - that she should have known better than to trust that husband of hers, and she should have jduged Bahubali based on all his former actions instead of this one single move she happened not to like. But alas here we are, and she definitely redeemed herself in the end!

@@OfficialMediaKnights I think she knew in her heart that Baahubali was right, but sometimes it is easier to forgive other's mistake than accept one's own mistake due to her ego, and as a Reigning Monarch her role demanded that she not apologize or accept a mistake. We see this played out even in modern times where Monarchs very rarely accept they were wrong or they provide very evasive apologies. She is still my favorite character after Amarendra Baahubali. All in all, Henry Kissinger would have loved the Real Politik displayed here.

It's not a one time shot, that Queen mother got manipulated like that, she has been manipulated by her own husband (whom she didn't know can go to this extent) who poisoned her daily with the thoughts that Bahubali might be a big threat to her, the Kingdom and the King. She just tripped into this ego that Bahubali in his whole for the first time went against her mom's will that too for Devasena, she couldn't accept it. Bhalla and his father took this to their advantage and instilled the venom in her against Bahubali. How could she believe her own son would plot against Bahubali wherein the whole life she saw them two as true brothers, and Kumar's oblivion attack with Bahubali's dagger made her accept that Bahubali committed this crime (that too when her mind was poisoned and polluted by her husband).

Shivagami gave a word to Bhallaldev out of guilt..She can't break it even for Bahubali just like how he couldn't break his either.. Then because of Bahubali choosing Devasena instead of the throne..forced Shivagami to break her oath to Bhalla..So she started feeling a bit distant towards Bahubali...But she still loved him..When Bahubali chopped that guy's head off, it was the law that made Bahubali get kicked out of the palace..When she got tricked into believing Bahubali tried to kill Bhalla..She had no choice but to sentence him to death as it is only the law to kill those who dare to raise a sword against the king.. It's like you said..Bhalla and his father are the true bad guys..everyone else was just a pawn in their game.

What I love about this video is that they understood movie quite crystal clear on their fisrt try and after that they also discussed the right issues with the story. Like it took me 3 or 4 times to fully understand the little details in the story which they managed to get in their first try, quite movie specialists. I have seen reaction videos in which they completely misunderstood the situation or didn't get the right story. So love this reaction video.❤

Indian cinema has a really wide RANGE of movies that western people miss out because of a certain IMAGE that commercial movies have created over the years . Then comes RAJAMOULI who just breaks all the stereotypes by making such movies with something called CREATIVITY . That's it , it's the imaginative mind of Rajamouli that creates such beautiful peice of ART out of something that doesn't seem to work on paper. I know a lot of people will recommend you a lot of movies , I want to say this on behalf of all my fellow indian cinephiles , IT'S WORTH IT , IT'S AN OCEAN , THIS ONE IS JUST A GATEWAY DRUG . My personal advice would be to start with 3 IDIOTS , a great movie .

Definitely agreed - I believe westwrn cinema can take a page (or more!) Out of Indian cinema's book! From what we've seen thus far, there is no fear to go big and glorious, yet it's always somehow justified within the story so it doesn't come across misplaced. So far, Rajamouli's work has been incredible and we cannot wait to see what other gems he has in store!

What people don't realize is that Devsena is as much to blame for Amrendra's downfall as is his own nature and Shivgami's ignorance of her own son's scheme. Shivgami made a mistake yes by promising her son a marriage alliance without knowing the consent of the bride. We know the reason why she promised that but she wasn't all that ignorant about that matter. Mahishmati was an empire while Kuntala was a small kingdom which is easier to be captured even by pindaris. Had it not been for Amrendra being a one man army and royal commander of warrior using fast tactics to get rid of them, Kuntala wouldn't even live to see the day even before Shivagami sent the msg to have Devsena be captured. Most kingdoms would join each other through narriage for political advantage, Kuntala being chosen as the future candidate in-law of an empire had to be a huge thing, Devsena however in her pride taking the Minister's flexing words for that of the Queen Mother herself rejected the proposal. The problem is not even that she rejected the proposal but that she straight wrote a really curt reply to an empire far beyond extreme which her brother the king didn't try to stop. She made a big scene about the proposal once reaching the court which made many of council members not see her in bright way and that also ended with Amrendra losing his position as crown prince. Instead of currying favours in court and trying to make things up with Shivgami she was aloof, knowing well how much Amrendra miss Shivgami and even needs her support. To make things worse when Bhallaldev intentionally chose to releave Amrendra of the authority, you can see Shivgami didn't like that decision but she couldn't say it in out at that moment because of people around them but Devsena questioned Shivgami's authority during a public event when guests from other kingdoms were present and she didn't end just on that but also publically ask Amrendra to ascend the throne right in front of the current king which is a crime punishable by death. Its a wonder how she survived punishment to that crime. A little detail about the baby shower too, while Setupati was a supporter of Bhallaldev but he didn't have any animosity against Amrendra and Devsena but since Devsena called him a dog in public that hurt his pride so he went all the way to get back at her. The whole chopping fingers case happened which made Amrendra lose his cools and punished the guilty himself when its the king's job, that made it look like Amrendra was agreeing with his wife's point of ascending the throne when the king is still alive (it indicated that Amrendra wanted to rebell/kill the current king). Again all this happened in court which made Amrendra lose his loyal status. Long story short, Bhallaldev and Bhijladev may have pulled the strings but Devsena is the one who acted out without thinking of consequences which resulted in her losing her husband, her child and most of all her whole kingdom cause as soon as Bhallaldev got all the rights after Shivgami's death, he destroyed Kuntala kingdom. Shivgami is an underrated QUEEN. She's such a complex and interesting character. With Shivgami we can at least see that she tried to keep it all together. She couldn't back out of her words, she felt guilty towards Bhallaldev who was acting all selfless in front of her, she felt hurt by Amrendra's "betrayal", she was continuously fed ill reports about Amrendra for an year until it led to Bhallaldev's assassination, she was made to believe with evidence that Amrendra started a rebellion to kill the king but knew a civil war would destroy the realm so she asked Kattapa the most loyal command to kill Bahubali so that way both Amrendra and Bhallaldev would keep their "honest" image intact. Had Kattapa refused to slay him, that would lead to an official trial and it'll end in civil war as Shivgami predicted with people revolting but Amrendra would still die and the royal family would be seen as tyrants. Besides it would kill Amrendra inside that his family would think of him and a traitor and try to get rid of him. The only reason Kattapa agreed to kill him is to spear him that emotional pain that his mother might be involved. Amrendra's only downfall was that he loved two women so immensely and that both these women were so much alike and headstrong that they couldn't stand at one place and see eye to eye. Kumar on the other hand had the best character development in the movie, he started out as a coward but ended up giving his life for loyalty and honour. Good thing to notice is that between Mahendra and Amrendra you cab tell who is who by their physique and mannerism. The way Amrendra walks and talks is so royalish while Mahendra walks and speak normally like any person. You can see the difference between the way they fight with Amrendra being more skilled in weapons and tactics while Mahendra is all raw strength with basic training. Amrendra has more taller and buff body while Mahendra has thick body. Amrendra is calm while Mahendra loose his temper rather fast like Devsena. I seriously love the way you guys react as usual. You guys get the storylines so well. Also guys given your taste in movies/shows I'll highly recommend 3 Idiots Taare Zameen Par PK Bajrangi Bhaijaan Barfi
