I arranged the fingerings of this piece in 1994 based on an audio cassette tape recording by Pedro Concepcion.
I used to play it publicly in our province and in some countries in Europe in some Art Exhibitions. I stopped playing the guitar in 1997 and totally forgotten this beautiful piece of music..
Nov 7, 2010 when I revived editing the version based on the original recording. I added the orchestral introduction part and ending and it took me some time to decide which one is good to play. The introduction in the original recording was played by orchestra and I find it difficult to be adapted for solo guitar, so I come up with this very simple one.
Thanks to Mar Mendoza for moral supports and materials.
And also to the late Mr. Ed Lim for the inspiration

This song became so popular during the Second World War and had inadvertently but deservedly became the inspirational hymn of Filipinos , most especially the women , whose husbands , fathers and brothers were thrown into the battlefields to fight . The song had captured the mood and sentiment of the entire nation during the war and had given the Filipinos hopes and a promise that one day “ babalik ka rin “ to end all their longings , sufferings and sorrows .

Hi sir Joel, I have been watching/listening to your guitar renditions for days now and I must say your versions have been very true to how I remember these music being played from way back. I'm (only) 37 yrs old but when I was still a young boy, family gatherings would mean our old folks (Lolo's and Tito's) singing kundiman and so I would say I had a good (and awesome I think) exposure to this kind of music. I remember my Dad telling me that this particular song "Babalik Ka Rin" was usually sang in wakes/funerals - apparently the lyrics "Babalik ka rin, upang ako ay aliwin, sa mga tinitiis kong, kalungkutan" was somehow interpreted as your dear departed loved one somehow returning from the dead. Anyway, I was wondering if you have a rendition of the song "Panahon 'Tang Nagdaan". It was my Lolo's favorite. It would be very nice to hear this song again. God bless you and more power...

alekhine5214 I was also exposed to kundiman music at very young age; my father was a guitarist and he learned a lot from my grandfather about guitar music. my grandfather also was a popular virtuoso guitarist in Cavite during his time...so it's in our blood to have a bunch of guitarists in the family and relatives.About the song you've mentioned..well, I don't have it and I think I'm not familiar with the tune of that song...maybe I never heard that...but I will try to look for it or make some search on the internet for at least a good audio version so I can arranged it on guitar. Thank you very much.

Hey Joel, as always, makabagbag damdamin. Alam mo, I also play the guitar, not as you do, but mainly chords going chump, chump, chump. Occasionally, I get to play the melody, though staying within the chord structure. I wonder, if there is a method to this, I.e., playing the same chords but at different position in the fret board.
