The reason Mariah covers her ear while going that high is because with all the instruments around her and also the crowd she wouldn't be able to hear herself hit the note. When you cover one ear you can hear yourself better!

She absolutely does NOT. The whistles were strained in Ariana's cover and the entire cover lacked the fullness, richness..depth of Mariah's. Not all voices are equal and that is okay. This song is untouchable and only Mariah can do it justice. Obviously..it's Mariah's song so that makes sense.

Actually no. I've been a Mariah fan All my life and i've also been Studying her voice, the reason why she had a vocal decline.It's because the lack of rest that she have for her voice.She overworked her vocal chords, causing her voice to be more tired and more raspy.That's why in the butterfly album we hear so much R.Asp, especially her glitter era as she overworked her voice.Doing so many songs and a little rest
