My late father told me that when he was a young butcher at a supermarket, the customer would point to a nice cut of beef and ask to have it ground, so he'd take that cut of beef to the meat grinder and hold it above the grinder, while feeding a lower quality piece of beef through the grinder for the customer, and then putting the high quality cut back out on the refrigerator shelf. It wasn't his idea, it's what they did back then.

My family think that I'm OCD when I wash all fruit and vegetables before putting them in the fridge. During covid I wiped and sprayed every item after they had had about 48 hours in the garage (except fresh products and freezer items). It was covid that made my family realise why I was pedantic with food that I fed my family. When I was 15 until I was 18 along with school I worked in a supermarket in the seafood department then on checkouts. We were told that if we dropped a piece of seafood we had to wash it off and put it back in the cabinet for someone else to buy. I refused to do it (it looks like I was OCD in relation to germs from at least age 15). The Deli and Seafood departments were right next to each other. The seafood section only had 1 person working and the deli had between 4 and 6 depending on the time of day. We would all help each other out (we were aged between 15 and 19) for breaks etc. The deli area was found to have salmonella and unfortunately I had food poisoning along with one other girl and of course a lot of customers. It occurred due to some staff throwing the rolls of meat before cutting and half the time they would drop the unwrapped item on the floor and wash it off. It was so disgusting, unprofessional and was dangerous in terms of illness. I've had an immuno suppressive illness since I was a little girl and because I was helping them slice the meat by machine I became very ill and ended up in hospital. Food sellers, eg supermarkets but also small businesses like Bakeries, butchers, fruit and vegetable shops should have mandatory education for all staff with a yearly reminder and at any time a new staff member starts they should be trained by the owner or senior staff.

Hi, BabbleTop!!! My favorite store (Carrefour, a French brand) often has the same 40-second advertisement playing and the repetition makes me want to hurry and get the hell out of there. Not every Carrefour location is like that. I loved the An Ping location, but now I live on the east side and all Carrefour places are terrible for parking. I'm 183cm tall and often find good stuff if I'm willing to squat down. I still love Carrefour no matter what. The buyer even gave me his phone number and told me to call him if I want anything that's not on the shelves. What kind of service is THAT??? Carrefour wins outright, but the PA system advertisement that repeats every 40 seconds has got to go. Take care, BabbleTop and all comment viewers! Be safe out there, friends!!!

Since covid, the grocery store I was going to was disinfecting the conveyor belt between every customer. Which I appreciated. But then, even with masks being mandated by our governor, they would not enforce ppl to wear them in the store. And they even stopped wiping down the belt. Ppl are ignoring suggested protocols again. And again, like clock work, covid cases are increasing in my area. So yeah, great idea to wash your groceries. I even repackage some stuff. One of the few jobs I worked in my life was in a grocery store deli 25 or so years ago. Never saw or heard of that store having rodent issues or roaches. That said it was in a small, old, college town, Now come warm weather ya might see a fly or a risk taking bird might fly in a open door. But I get the point of the video because I also saw how some of the deli items were made and there's no way I'd have eaten a lot of it. Back then, not many of the salads we sold came in buckets ready to be dumped into serving bowls, a few did but not many. We still made a good bit fresh. Also used produce that was on it's lasts leg for some items. The worse thing I saw was "Meat Spread". It consisted of ends too small for the slicer. Those ends would be saved all week. Meat Spread got made on fridays. It couldn't ever possibly taste the same since the ends of meat depended on what was sold that week and that could vary a lot depending on time of year and sales, even holidays affected that meat spread. Sometimes it could even be more cheese cause that ground that in too... all flavors. Except during the holidays about nov cheese got saved in a seperate container and they used it to make cheese balls and logs. Otherwise I say most stuff was pretty good. I worked in some fast/food, convenience stores that were way dirtier and bug infested in a big city. The grocery store seemed pristine compared to the others.

How about red died old meat, thankfully it wasn’t a widespread issue for one grocery story chain I’ve seen some dirty checkout conveyor belts, self checkout helps that sometimes, but then how dirty is that hand basket or cart. With grocery delivery, I now have big bags of all those little grocery plastic bags I need to drop off at the store for recycling.

Pre Cut??? 🤦♂️ The moment you run a knife through a veggie/fruit it starts to go bad. EVERY person that cooks their own food should know this! Sad that isn't the truth though seeing as how big a customer base pre cut salads have. And I worked at a bakery after high school to earn extra cash. We couldn't give any of the freshly baked savouries or sweets to the poor/needy at the end of the day. Company policy. And tbh I don't know if you can blame them. The number of times those same poor/needy sue because of food poisoning from the donated food apparently is quite high. How does this make sense? For one you can't chew gum while working most places. For two you chew with your mouth closed. And three, human produce spittle every time they talk, or do many other thing. Plus there's sweating, and so many other more likely ways one, either the worker or another shopper, could spread body fluids on your food. Also products come from boxes. Where the heck do you shop where these things happen
