Major League Baseball-Legends Collide: Babe Ruth vs. Shohei Ohtani!
The Sultan of Swat vs. The Shohei Show: A Battle of the Ages
Are you ready to witness the clash of two of the most extraordinary players in Baseball history? On one side, we have Babe Ruth, the Sultan of Swat, who set the bar so high with his power-hitting that it took almost four decades for anyone even to come close to his 714 home runs record.
But hold on because, on the other side, we have Shohei Ohtani, a modern-day wonder of baseball who has taken the league by storm with his ability to pitch and hit at an elite level.
He's a two-way player with a fastball that can reach triple digits and a smooth swing that produces jaw-dropping home runs.
So, imagine a faceoff between Babe Ruth and Shohei Ohtani, who would come out on top as the king of the plate? The Sultan of Swat or The Shohei Show? Let's find out!
In today's video we look at MLB-Legends Collide: Babe Ruth vs. Shohei Ohtani!

12 home run titles. 13 slugging titles. 10 on base % titles. 13 ops titles. 11 times leading the league in walks. 6 tumes leading the league in runs. 5 times leading the league in rbi. Over 700 home runs and a b.a. of over .340, as well as a slugging average of .690 cements the Babe as the best ever.

You can point out that the game changed but Ohtani isn’t even close to as dominant as the Babe was for his time. .274 batting average. He will never have a season with hitting stats like the babe in an average season for him. Pitching stats are comparable… so far. This video isn’t giving the Babe nearly enough credit for his pitching (again, times changed, and babe probably couldn’t be a top pitcher today)
@Mik-xq2co

Why even post this video? Most rank Ruth as the top player of all time. Shohei has not played long enough to break into the top 100 greatest players of all time. Looking at stats posted for a career, there is no comparison. Yes, Ohtani is still playing, so he will add to his current numbers. However, he is 29 years old and misses a lot of games due to injury. His pitching career might be over. All in all, there is no comparison between the two. Ruth is the GOAT and Ohtani is a current media darling! Pitching: Ruth 94-49, ERA=2.28 and 108 complete games Ohtani 38-19, ERA=3.01 and 1 complete game Hitting: Ruth .342 BA, 714 HRs, 1.1634 OPS, 2873 Hits Ohtani .274 BA, 171 HRs, .922 OPS, 681 Hits World Series Championships Ruth = 7 Ohtani = 0

No question that today’s players are better “athletes” than the players of Ruth’s time, but being a better “athlete” does not necessarily make one a better baseball player.

Often forgotten is the fact that Ruth was also a star pitcher for the Red Sox before the Yankees put him in the outfield. Of course, DH’s didn’t exist then, so the only way to get his bat in lineup every day was put him in the field.

Enough with this ridiculous question already. The more appropriate question is how much better is Shohei Ohtani going to be than babe Ruth? The only people still think babe is better than Ohtani are older white guys, and that’s purely based on Emotion. Era vs era, talent vs talent, Ohtani wins in All categories. Babe was the best white baseball player on the north eastern part of US a hundred years ago.

Some of us just don't think a player with 3 or 4 full seasons can be reasonably compared to a guy who played 20+ years. What we do know is that Ruth was a better hitter AND pitcher in his era than Ohtani is in his. Ohtani has had 3 spectacular seasons (albeit with missed games for injury), and Ruth should have won like 12 MVPs. (Rules disallowed prior winners from winning again for much of his career).

Ohtani is the best Baseball player of all time, right now he has a career average of .270 and a ERA of 2.90, and I like Babe but I also like what Casey Stengal said in the 1960s interview, he said the players now are so much better bigger stronger faster (meaning Mays and Mantle and other's) then when he was playing in the 1920s & 30s. And no one knows Baseball better then Casey Stengal, Babe played against farmers and coal miners, and did'nt train 362 days and play against international worldwide talents like they do today.

It's really unfair to make this kind of comparison. Different times, different conditions, different competition, ....just the game itself has evolved so much that you can debate this all day long and it still wouldn't be fair. The closest valid comparison you can make would be among contemporaries where the playing field (pun intended) is the same for everyone at the same time. The surest way to make a valid comparison is to magically bring Ruth into these times and Ohtani back into those times. Of course, you can't do that, and therein lies the continuing debate.

If Babe Ruth played today, he'd have the same advantages that today's players have over previous generations (advancements in weight training, nutrition, medicine, scouting, etc.) And with what they’re paying players today, that would keep him motivated. You're also forgetting that back then the fields were ginormous and it was considered the dead ball era where the ball didn’t travel as far. In addition, Babe Ruth had insanely quick hands and amazing hand eye coordination…something you can teach…just ask Barry Bonds. He hit bombs off of heavy balls and poorly made bats. Now, imagine if Ruth had access to modern scouting, medicine, training equipment, and even just basic necessities. One last thing, he also used a 54 ounce bat. Just imagine what he and his unusually quick hands would do with a 34 ounce bat. By the way, his reflex test was measured against Albert Pujols and Babe tested at a higher rate.
@RickB1792
@RickB1792 2 ай бұрын
This seems a silly argument. Ruth was dominant for his time, but the whole sport, in fact all sports, have bigger, faster, stronger, more skilled players. They throw faster, hit harder, and so forth. Ohtani would be much better than Ruth head to head. Fat Babe in today’s game would likely still hit, and with power, but surely would not dominate. A player like Gehrig is more likely to translate in today’s game as he was a conditioned athlete.

You get that there being free teams is a point for Ruth's era being tougher, right? Fewer teams means fewer roster spots. The fewer spots there are, the higher the level of talent filling them on average. Also, while there weren't many, there in fact were SOME Latin players during Ruth's era.
@snerdterguson
@snerdterguson Ай бұрын
And Jackie himself played in a league with next to no black players. It isn't like he joined the league and it suddenly became populated with a population proportionate number of black players. If you're going to just say Ruth isn't great because of his era, then you have to say the same for Jackie. Both played in almost exclusively white eras, it was beyond their control, both played excellently.

Ruth's 14 yr average in every hitting category, easily beats Ohtani's single year best in every category. No comparison in pitching either. Ruth was best lefty pitcher in baseball. Age 21; 23w-12, 1.75 era, 23 complete games, 9 shutouts, 323 innings. His record of 29 consecutive scoreless innings in World Series lasted 50 years. (0.52 era) He still holds the record for most 82 wins for a lefty, at age 23. Ohtani is a part time pitcher. 135-150 innings this year. Ruth's switched to part-time pitching; his 2nd year he broke all time season HR record; 300% more than second guy. The next year, Ruth hit more home runs than every teams combined total.

Babe ruth is 6'2 and towered over everyone Ohtani is 6'4/6'5 and is not even the tallest on his team Babe ruth ate hot dogs 🌭 before every game Ohtani is Jacked and build like a mountain, he would go to the gym after most game

Lmao you just wrote down lies. Ruth threw at least 80, and his top speed was probably much higher. I don't know where you got the 100ft HR figure from, the shortest possible distance for a HR at old Yankee stadium was 314 Ft, same as a lot of modern stadiums. Ruth didn't face plumbers, he faced proffesional athletes, you didn't get into the MLB by being terrible. While Ruth did play in a segregated league, he barnstormed against Negro League teams and still crushed them. Ruth's height has nothing to do with his skill. And him having a diet of hot dogs and beer and still being the best baseball player of his time should be a compliment. If you put him in today's MLB, with modern training methods, he's still going to be one of the best players in the league. You can think Ohtani Is better but don't go around spreading misinformation.

Dimensions - Yankee Stadium - Ruth Era : When the original Yankee Stadium opened in 1923, the dimensions were as extreme as one could imagine. While it's true, measurements _right down_ the left and right-field foul lines were a mere 281 and 295, respectively, distances from home-plate shot out into a nearly 500-foot deep-left field, 487 feet to center, and 429 feet to the wall in deep-right field. The extremes were somewhat modified in the subsequent years however measurements were only a few feet shallower, not enough so as to make a substantive difference for any ball batted by a mere mortal. Ruth lost plenty of homers while playing within its not so 'friendly confines' The left and right-field foul poles were extended out some later, as well. There was 82 feet behind home plate in those days; a huge expanse of territory

George Herman Ruth in his prime 21-34 years old was 6'2 215lbs... He had the Highest reflex score ever tested. Only Pujols scored on Ruths level. There were only 14 teams when Ruth played. Ruth Threw 90 mph. 46 year Old Jaime Moyer threw 75mph and was striking out Hall of Fame batters. Roddey Tellez is 300lbs. Tony Gwynn ordered #2 Super Size McDonalds after every game. Cecil Fielder was 260lbs. Prince Fielder was 300lbs. Jose Altuve is 5'6 160lbs. It's been 60 feet 6 inches since the beginning of Time. Walter Johnson threw 98 mph. If Ruth played on the Yankees today. In 150 games he would hit .280ba 50HR 120Rbis and would Dominate. The players back then were BIGGER than today. Most players today are 5'10 185lbs. oh yea 46 year old Jesse Orosco struck out Barry Bonds TWICE!!

Babe Ruth’s home runs ranged from 540-612 ft so I do NOT know where in the name of god you got those numbers from.And even though Babe played against plumbers and whatnot,that still doesn’t change the fact that their were a good superstar players/teams that he faced off against.Also doesn’t change the fact that he would annihlate most modern day players,given that he’d have more advantages.And I’m tired of the misconceptions that babe never faced blacks,sure he never faced them in the main mlb but he faced them ALOT during preseason barnstorming tours.And what does height have to do with this,don’t know what you were going for there but alright😂and last but not least,that lie about babe scarfing down unhealthy food is BS and nothing more than that.there’s footage of his training and workouts so you can throw that out the window TLDR:Babe is the goat,Ohtani is nothing more than a media darling.

Lot of disrespect (Or ignorance) to Ruth despite him having top 3 WAR seasons ever in baseball, and despite leading MLB in home runs and having more home runs than every team in the league in 1920 you still want to push Ohtani is the greatest. remember Ruth hit home runs when very few home runs were hit (Dead ball era) and hit for average along with drinking and living an unhealthy lifestyle he still managed insane numbers. What would ruth do now with proper diet, weight training and dedicated baseball training like Ohtani has? Who knows but i'll still put all my money on Ruth.. Ohtani 37 career war vs Ruth 182 GTFO.

I keep hearing how Babe Ruth was so much better than his "peers" and so on. But what others don't realized is that he was a wealthy rich man who could play the game of Baseball "full time." He was against part time plumbers and construction workers. Try to find an MLB player who plays part time nowadays because you literally can't. Everyone dedicates their entire LIFE to the sport from not just one part of the world, but everywhere. Dominicans, Whites, Blacks, Mexican, Japanese, Koreans, Indians literally everyone. It's not a competition guys. I hate to tell you that.

How much privilege's did Ruth have at an ophanage? Do you know your a RICH PERSON? because you sit here typing out foolishness' with a computer. Also your repeating words you read someplace not from actual research you did. So go sit down and zip it. Ohtani career war 37 ( 10.1 last year) Ruth career war 182 (including the 1st 14.1 , 2nd 12.9 , 3rd 12.6) so why is Ruth's war so much better than Ohtani if Ohtani's the greatest. The disrespect for Ruth needs to stop. Ohtani is very good, that’s undeniable and he will be one of the best of all time. But even with having another player on his squad who is also considered an all time great in Trout, he still has not won any rings. Baseball is obviously not like basketball, but being able to contribute on both sides of the field and have Trout as a teammate, and he still hasn’t won anything. It won’t look any better with the Dodgers now because his team is even more stacked than the 27’ Yankees on paper. All time greats need to be winners too and Ohtani hasn’t shown that yet. I don’t understand why people are so quick these days to declare GOATs prematurely in guys like Ohtani, Mahomes and LeBum.
