How strange. I completely fail to relate to this perspective on pacing. I felt the time jumps were not only appropriate, but viscerally satisfying. The general pacing was one of the best things for me during my reading experience. And immersion was no problem at all , I even daydream about being Robin’s friend or a Babel student sometimes myself. To be fair, I do purposely lean towards literature with a more “academic” or “textbook” feel. New age fantasy literature with that aesthetic is hard to come by. Babel is the adult version of what Harry Potter used to be for me when I was 12. I will think and ruminated about it forever. I’ve already quoted it in discussion. And used it as a lesson in my own convictions. I’m sorry you did not get what you wanted from it. Just not the right type of book for everyone.

Agree with your comment....although I am only 80 pages in, I'm loving it. Only watched bits of this video to avoid potential spoilers, but I certainly think it is an engaging read so far (I stop reading books very quickly if they re not!) and I have no idea what is going to happen thus far...

This would’ve been a funny comment if they had been complaining about Kuang being dramatic in her depiction of racism and colonialism but slow and uneven pacing is a very valid reason to say a book was disappointing

Hi Letty! Instead there is some required reading you should do about racism, colonialism and the violence of empire. If you don’t get this book it’s because you are engaging in bad faith or uneducated. I choose to believe uneducated ☺️

I have doubts about the book. I've purchased it, but I have a feeling the characters eill be flat. Glad that other people in yt don't exactly like it😅

By the end of the book, I had absolutely no question about the dimensionality of the characters. You don’t get to see all of it at first, but it’s there~
