Linville Falls is just the tip of all the wonders in the gorge

Linville Falls is at the north end of the Linville Gorge. The Gorge runs about 12 miles north to south, and most of the area south of the falls is the Linville Gorge Wilderness. There are a bunch of hikes with spectacular views on both the east and west sides of the wilderness; some run along the rim of the Gorge or just below it along one side, some go to peaks like Hawksbill and Table Rock, some go down and connect to the Linville Gorge Trail which runs along (and often well above) the Linville River. You could easily spend a week there backpacking or doing day hikes without coming close to seeing everything. Most of the hiking is pretty tough, referred to as "Gorge miles", with one Gorge mile usually being more like 1.5 to 2 miles most other places. If you want to see more of it, you could search YT for some of these hikes: Table Rock, Hawksbill, the Chimneys, Shortoff Mountain (all of those are on the east side of the gorge) and the Rock Jock Trail, Conley Cove Trail and Pinch In Trail on the west side. Wisemans View has spectacular views from the west side of the Gorge, but it is only a stroll of a few hundred yards on a paved handicap accessible path. If you want to backpack and camp on Friday/Saturday/Sunday from about April through October or November, you have to apply with the Forest Service to get a permit for the days you want at the beginning of each month.

@@bigzach322 I totally agree, LInville Gorge is incredible, one of my favorite places to hike, Grandfather Mountain is my tops for me though, love that place, did Profile to Swinging Bridge and back 2 times last fall, kicked my ass, haha,

@@ricman3434 That is probably the toughest crowded hike in the state.

@@bigzach322 I am fortunate that I did Profile to Swinging Bridge and back, both times on a Wednesday, very few people at all, weekends are much more crowded

Awesome place for sure. Love all those spectacular rock formations and great views down the gorge. The spot down by the river was awesome too. I've never been to Linville Gorge but been wanting to check it out for years, I'm going to do my best to get down there at least once sometime this year.

I'm very surprised you have never been to Linville, considering you've been to plenty of other NC locations. It is a bushwhacker's paradise.
