My 1st memory of DW is sitting up late watching WTTW (PBS broadcast from Chicago) in the living room of my family's old house in Indiana, the year my parents divorced. It was 1988, I was 4, and Time and the Rani was being broadcast for the 1st time in the states. McCoy has since endeared himself to me as my favorite doctor. The brilliant physical comedy, rubber face, scottish accent, & the sweater vest with all the ?s. I have adored him for the past 23 yrs. This video reminds me exactly why!

I know I am in the minority here, but McCoy is my favorite doctor. He is just so brilliant in his last two seasons and the audio dramas and even the first fifteen minuets of the TV movie.

I agree completely, and I feel he and Ace should should have had another 3 series at least. (I never liked Mel, this is irrelevant but I never did.)

No, I'm totally with you. I grew up watching the classic series on PBS and McCoy's was the Doctor they showed the most of. While I love all of the Doctors and their companions, Slyvester and Sophie will always be my favorite team. (Now if only Ace could show up in the revived series...)

I like Sylvester Mc Coy because 1) The stories are great 2) His companions are brilliant including some of the people who help him like Ray, Alison, Professor Rachel Jensen, Mags and the Kangs 3) The villains are really scary like Kroagnon, Fenric, the Haemovores, the Destroyer and the Gods of Ragnarok 4) He is a combination of Patrick Troughton and Tom Baker and 5) The places he goes to are brilliant

This is a wonderful video, and a brilliant tribute to McCoy's 7th Doctor. The song choice and selected scenes perfectly showcase the many fun and fabulous quirks of Seven's personality. I really don't get why (some) people diss Sylvester McCoy's take on the Doctor so much. All that I can recon is that folks are taking the shortcomings of some of the story lines out on the actor/character. He's in my top three of all Doctor incarnations. Thanks for putting this out there.
@DarthRushy9 жыл бұрын
Kimmy B People don't like him because A) He was the captain of the ship when it went down, B) He was the most clownish of all the Doctors, C) Several of his stories were utter crap.I myself have a fondness for him, but he's nowhere near my favourite.

The 7th doctor's kind of a strange one, the BBC wanted to drop Doctor who so at somepoint before the 7th doctor's series they cancelled the series and the fans went wild, writing in and kicking up a fuss. So the BBC brought it back but the man they cast was a completely comic actor, known for clowing and famously used to do routines that involved live ferrets in his pants. They had intended on creating a doctor so clownish and over the top that people would hate the series and stop watching and the BBC could quietly close out the series. In the end that's exactly what happened but not how the BBC expected it to go. The first episode Mccoy's performance is terrible, slap stick, over the top and foolish but what no one expected was Mccoy to become one of the best and subtle Doctors of all time, Mccoy turned a foolishly clownish doctor into a dark, subtle and masterful manipulator, doing the clownish and over the top actions to throw people off, only to suddenly turn cold and calculating showing that underneath the silly act, a brilliant and tatical mind was always at work. In truth it was McCoy who saved the series along with Ace they were able to make the very best out of a series that was never ment to survive, the brilliant acting making Candy Monster Men, Holiday Camps involving intergalatic space empires and Robot Clowns engaging and entertaining (some with more sucess than others). The BBC's plan had worked sadly, the first few episodes and early performance by McCoy turned many away, the riddiculous writing they were forced to contend with pushed other fans away and in truth the series had ran it's course, after the 1996 film bombed Doctor Who was put to rest. In many ways McCoy is the orignal Peter Capaldi, try a brilliant actor and a vastly interesting and different approach to what else has been done undermined by terrible, terrible writing and production.
@tost69567 жыл бұрын
The writing was brilliant and the production was too, I must just have to disagree. McCoy isn't at his best in his series but still great and hilarious. lol opinions are odd
@ZipotheThird7 жыл бұрын
You really think the writing of a monster made out of Candy or the fact that King Arthur came out of space and had access to lasers and Morgian le fay had a nuke she was going to trigger or that the heir to an intergalatic space empire was hiding in Butlins was good writing?

One of my favourite McCoy stories is Battlefield. Why ? I've always loved the King Arthur legend and to have the 7th Doctor addressed as Merlin was just great. To have the 7th Doctor as a mystery man. At the end of Silver Nemesis Ace asks him " Who are you? The Doctor puts a finger to his lips not only to shush her but he was listening to live music. Great Doctor Who Ciifhanger

I've watched all of those in the last year. Other than The Happiness Patrol, I thought they were all pretty good, but none had the wow factor of such favorites of mine as Tomb of the Cybermen, The Green Death, Genesis of the Daleks, Earthshock, or The Caves of Androzani. There are moments that have that effect on me, like talking the Dalek into self-destructing or calling Ace "an emotional crrrripple," but nothing that was sustained over even an episode, let alone the whole serial.

McCoy is great. He has like 6 stories that are really quite bad (in my opinion) and not something to talk about, but he also has 6 stories that are among the best of the best. My favourites from him are: 5. The Greatest Show in the Galaxy 4. Survival 3. Remembrance of the Daleks 2. Curse of Fenric 1. Battlefield (The sixth one, for me, is Ghostlight.) Not a greatly appreciated Doctor, maybe, but one of the show's best ones.
