Baby and Juvenile Chameleon Gecko Set Ups. Eurydactylodes agricolae

There are many ways to make a set up for young Chameleon Geckos and I wanted to share how I was making them. Can't wait to have him in his adult set up!

I think they will! Now that crested geckos seem less popular other are noticing the other New Caledonia species. I always mention Chameleon Geckos because to be honest I like mine better than my crested g or Leachie

You can tape the clear food wrap on most of that top to hold in more humidity 😊

I always give them a smaller living space so that they can find their food easier 😊 until they get bigger I’ll put them in the bigger critter keeper and when they are grown I would put in a 12x12 exo terra

Yeah, when he was tiny I didn't realize how small the set up needed to be haha But he's at least twice the size now and is actually now in his 12×12×18 tank. Ironically, I'm working on the video at this moment haha

What was it that caused the isopods to die? Was there nothing for them to consume in the substrate? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Number one reason, I'm sure Don Coolio ate most lol this tank was tiny so the isopods didn't have a lot of places to hide in even though I kept wood in the bottom and leaf litter. But I have my Chameleon Gecko in a 12×12×18 not and everything seems to be doing better there

@@jpslizards oh gotcha gotcha. I have one coming in the mail today. Built an enclosure for it the other day but used silicone so now it still smells terribly like vinegar. I thought the smell would've been gone by now so I gotta run to pet smart to pick up a critter keeper because I'm worried it might die from that horrible vinegar odor. First time I used silicone so I had no idea that smells sticks around for awhile. Oops haha but thanks for the info.

@@TheHudsonValleyWanderer oh yeah, silicone will take days to aerate. Are you getting a young chameleon gecko or adult? They're tiny as hatchlings

Yeah you'll need to use a small set upbat first. If you use a critter keeper, be sure to cover part of the lid. The humidity will escape very rapidly

What lighting was used for that sized tank? I have the same one (12x8x8) and am having a lot of trouble finding the right lighting that doesn’t make the entire tank hot.

Woopsy, I didn't mention lighting lol but I still used a t5 with a 5.0 uvb lamp. But I kept the tank next to a 12×12×18. This way the fixture wasn't on top

@@jpslizards thank you! From what I understand, chameleon geckos prefer UVB but not a basking heat lamp correct? I only ever read about people providing UVB.

That's correct. With my New Caledonia species, I provide an LED light, for the plants, but it emits a little bit of heat, so the very top of the tank is a little warmer. But I wouldn't put it on top of a tank that is 12" tall

@@jpslizardsgot it, that makes so much more sense. ive noticed the thermometer is consistently in the 60s without a heat source, and was looking into the zoomed nano combo dome fixture so there is one UVB and one nightlight/heat source. Is this fine or is the room temp being in the 60s fine? Sorry for all of the questions! This is the most clarification ive gotten and I want to be sure my geckos setup is correct!

I’ve got mine 2 days ago, idk what I’m doing wrong but whenever I’m close to the enclosure he freezes and never moves, any recommendations?

Just let me say first, congrats! And I knew they were shy to being touched and handled so I only pick up mine if I feed him. If it sees food it becomes bold.. goes straight for the food. Maybe try that

@@jpslizardsok so he’s 10 months old, got him from breeder he was fed Pangea complete diet all his life, I’ve offered him some but he was scared, he never ate bugs before, should I try feeding him some? If yes what type do you recommend, I’ll go to reptile shop tmr, thanks :)

When they're only fed the mix, they get used to it, this is with most geckos from New Caledonia. I got mine when he was just 1 month old and stayed offering both insects and the mix. I have offered pinhead crickets, dubia nymphs and also pieces of mealworms. Yours should be big enough to take small crickets, small dubias, mealworms and bsfl
