28:07 they do a whole lot of other things besides Music. Run BTS: they play games In the soop: Staycation Bon Voyage: Kind of travel vlogs Bangtan boms: this is anything, basically members having fun with each other American Hustle Life: they did a long time ago in 2014. In case you don't know (icydk) they started as a hip-hop group and they were sent to America to learn more about hip-hop. The show is about that. Photoshoots: both for magazines and their own photo cards. Again icydk they (including other k-pop groups) have photocards both as official merchandise and one that comes with a physical album. Also they are ambassadors for fashion brands. BTS as a group is house ambassador for Louise Vuitton. Jhope is the brand ambassador of the same brand and attended the fashion show in Paris. He has also attended the Dior and Hermès show in Paris. RM for Bottega Veneta, attended the Milan show. Jin didn't do any such thing yet, cause he had to enlist in the military. I think he will do something like that after he returns. Suga for Maison Valentino, and attended their Paris show. He is also the brand ambassador for the NBA and attended a game in Japan. Jimin for Dior, and attended the Paris show, along with jhope. Taehyung (V) for Celine, recently attended the Paris show. Lastly jungkook for Calvin Klein. They have appeared in magazines. Rm in vogue korea, suga in Marie Claire korea, jhope w korea (last year), jimin w and vogue korea, taehyung Elle korea. They do behind the scenes of everything from album jacket shoot to photocard shoot to music video shoot. Last but not the least they come live frequently in the app called weverse. That's the official app for idol fan interactions (again icydk). Hope this helps :-)

@@borastreet Yes they are always super busy and booked with different activities besides doing music. Now to answer your question, you can start with watching run BTS in youtube in Bangtantv channel, and the rest they are uploaded in youtube too. Tbh I don't prioritize anything. If you follow some big accounts in twitter the news come to you spontaneously. The top 3-4 things I said as in the Run BTS, Bon Voyage etc are part of their journey as BTS. But the fashion brand ambassador is a big news too. I try to keep up with as much as I can, of course I miss several things, but I watch them later. Eg. weverse live. They often come live in weverse to interact with fans and I miss that most of the times. But I watch them later. It is my 2nd year with BTS (from nov 2021) and I still cannot catch up everything and I think it is okay. Some people who became armys way before than me say that it took them almost 3-4 years to grasp everything about BTS.

44:42 same 😭. Prior to BTS I never cared about music. As you said it was something that played in the background. But one thing I always cared about was good lyrics. Before BTS I used to listen to songs in the languages I knew. I listened to only slow songs because they had good and meaningful lyrics. Even after that it never went beyond just enjoying the song. But after finding BTS, it's like another world, I never knew that existed. My first songs with BTS were "Boy with Luv" and "Boy in Luv" respectively. I found the "Boy in Luv" reference in a K-drama. Only two lines were sung by the drama character and it stuck in my mind. However, my first song was "Boy with Luv" (I played it by mistake 😅). But the song which made me an ARMY was "The Truth Untold", especially the story behind the song. Since then I knew that there was no longer looking back. Also the video of Wembley Stadium made me stay as an ARMY.

omg! we have similar but different experience with music I grew up on Afrobeat which are known for nonsensical or romantic lyrics, sometimes both tbh. No depth, introspection, nothing to peel back and decipher. Ive always listened to songs in a language I don't know bcos I can't speak my tribal language, only English, so it wasn't difficult to listen to Bts' Korean However, since I grew with Afrobeats, the beat of the music was always the most important thing to us. U had to have a good beat that everyone at the party can dance to, from the little ones to grandmas So if I had to select a song, I would normally chose fast songs like hiphop cos of their good beat but nonsense lyrical coz that's what I grew up with. The idea that music can be both moving and meaningful (specifically, No More Dream and N.O) was so shocking to me and BTS were the artists that taught me that I'll talk about this more, but I just came back from a 6 hours road trip to a diff city and another 6 hours to drive back home. For the 4 hours I drove I compiled a list of BTS songs 2021-2023 and played it on repeat. My sibling HATES listening to foreign things. Like he wouldn't watch a show with subtitles. But as soon as boy with love come on, he started to hum the second chorus. He has never heard the song before and was very shy and embarrassed when I called him out on it, cuz he normally teases me for liking BTS. He then tells me its not his fault for humming along, even tho he was hearing the song for the first time, because the melody was too catchy that he didn't even know he was doing it!! The plan to convert him to being an ARMY has started😝 Boy with luv is out here converting ppl into being an ARMY

These are all slower paced songs though. And to add to suga's recommendations snooze ft ryuichi Sakamoto and woosung is so good. I'd also try DKDKTV: Kpop in 20 minutes (gives some context) xCeleste: This is BTS, This is Army and her (updated) hardship vid bby gang mag/Elliot Sang's video essays are very very good: - BTS vs. K-pop (definetion of what K-pop even is) - BTS: More than K-pop (the difference) and many many more Taylor Mari: Bangtan 7 (individual, overall introduction; is a little missleading on occassion but that is complaining on a high level) and out best: *The* *Rise* *of* *Bangtan* (it's themed, works with context and contrasts out of many sources and the Bonus is funny) Boracity also has a vid about "the boyband hiatus" and why it does not work with BTS. In fact I see BTS as a continous thing, a story of growing up, coming of age: the school triology and society, entering adulthood under hardships (the beauty in the pain of youth), Wings was growing with the theme of Hermann Hesse's Demian (a book about gorwing up under aspects of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and Carl Jung's psychology without "higher" power controlling it be it religious or earthy powers), self-love ( a journey from first perfect love over the inevitable destruction of it because we don't love our imperfect self enough and pretend to be perfect for the others need which is why we loose ourself in it and didn't allow the other to get to know our true self) and to love yourself you have to know yourself: "The Map of the Soul" (Carl Jung's psychology of the Persona, Shadow and Ego). Unfortunately the pandemic, politics and certain "awarding" institutions have delayed the second chapter and the military service. The result was a very good and personal pandemic album and the English songs to remind us that Life is good, the pandemic will pass and it will get better again. Which is why we only entered the second chapter last summer instead of in 2020. (it also is the reason why we get less self-made music in that era). Now is the phase for some personal growth especially since the vocalline has always stood a little back in music creation behind the rapline. They are also fully grown so the themes are even more nuanced and "adult" which is also true for the rapline. But yeah, BTS does concept albums, even concepts over multiple albums and a song only gets it's full meaning in context of all that. (and letter does not really have a "feature" - musically that are backing vocals - which JK has done for many BTS songs - and so has Adora on other songs) Face is also a concept album - Jimin's feelings during the pandemic - Set me Free Pt. 2 is setting himself free from those emotions. (Set me Free is actually an Agust D song from his second mixtape I think - the connection was seen when Jimin named his song). Like Crazy is for him pretending he was not suffering from isolation during the pandemic and hiding in alcohol while being very lonely (it is also modeled after the movie of the same name). This vids boracity mistake? Go Go interpretation. Don't get me wrong - you can interpret it her way. It is just not BTS intention and is wrong in the Korean context. There are two vids that explain the lyrics by Koreans and the context... well... maybe watch it yourself? it is very interesting. You nice! Keep going! 💜

36:25 Na Hyang Wook. He was a very high ranking politician from South Korea's Ministry of Education. Whatever I have read about him is "interesting". He called his own citizens "dogs and pigs", because he doesn't believe people are born equal. That's why he wanted to implement a "caste system" in South Korea. Also according to him "99% of South Koreans have no ability to move up in the world and can be treated like animals - simply fed and kept alive". This is from a news article. I'll link everything if you wanna read. Back to BTS. BTS was once rumoured to be blacklisted by South Korea's then conservative government. President Park Guen Hye, ruled the country from 2013 to 2017. During her tenure the Sewol Ferry Tragedy took place. She was a very conservative politician and very image conscious, and if I'm not mistaken then she was a supporter of the former fascist government of South Korea. She was later impeached in 2017. During the ferry tragedy all she was concerned about was her "image" as a president, not the victims. The aforementioned politician was from her presidency. The incident took place in April 2014. BTS, along with Bang pd, met the families of the victims and gave them 100 million won. It was a very big amount for a then small group like BTS. In 2017, they released their song "Spring Day", which is said to be in honour of the victims of the tragedy (It is assumed. They never said it clearly, at least I don't know. Except once Jin said it's about a "sad event"). This song is said to be the reason for their "being blacklisted by the government" rumour. This is a personal opinion. While the whole song can be a protest song if you put it in context but imo there are a few lines which make it more obvious. Such as, "Though you left Even for a day, I haven't forgotten you To be honest, I miss you But I'll erase you now Because doing so hurts me less than resenting you I'll try blowing out you who aches my heart Like smoke, like white smoke Though I say that I'll erase you, I can't actually let you go yet" These lines seem like a lament from someone who has lost a friend. But if you put it in context it has a different meaning. Many days (probably a year after the tragedy) the govt officials told people to forget about what happened. Because they were so corrupt and incompetent that they couldn't even return the mortal remains of the victims to their families. In this context I think the song is a direct protest against an incompetent corrupt system that has no shame even after losing so many lives because of their incompetency. And I think that's why the "blacklisted" rumours arose. @@borastreet Sewol Ferry Tragedy was really sad but it was one of very "important" (lack of appropriate word, hope you understand) events that took place in South Korea. Not only it claimed lives (outside of those who died in that "accident") but it opened a web of corruption all over the country. Not just political corruption and incompetency of the Korean Coast Guard, but also religious cult, business scams and also revealed some years old crimes.

"political corruption and incompetency of the Korean Coast Guard, but also religious cult, business scams" 🤯 I'm genuinely speechless The more you talk about it, the more I want to look into it I'm not surprised that BTS made a song about this due to their previous songs No More Dream and N.O, but I imagine it would be hard for the song to do well because people would not want to be reminded of the tragedy every time they hear the song

When I watch Spring Day I see the stages of grief. Koreans see the embodiement of the Korean emotion "Han". Italian Army made a good vid: "What you still don't know about BTS Spring Day". That said the lyrics have nothing to do with the desaster. They were about Namjoon and Yoongi loosing friends in their life. The desaster is alluded to in the MV and choreography but not the lyrics. The song is still charting after dropping in Spring 2017.

When boracity mag titled the Proof album as legacy what she meant was the chapter 1 legacy. BTS will come back. They want nothing more than that 2025 comeback. I don't know exactly how well you currently know bts from just 2 solo albums.... so I'll just put a ton of information here.... you can take from it what you wish. Again I think so far you have only seen some songs from indigo and the full dday and face albums. My biggest advice to you as someone who has been in the fandom from 2018 is to jump into the entire discography from the beginning first and then look at interviews from each era. Music always comes first. Just try and get to know each and every song in your own time and pace... And you can also find subtitled version of performances on here from armys. If you wanna know more about the behind of the albums You can find album explanations lives from members on weverse... RM explaines the process behind the creation of the bts albums in his lives. For solo albums also you can find live shows from each of the members explaining each song and the process behind it on weverse. Also for the main non-Music content from bts Check out RUN BTS, the variety show (on both KZbin and weverse for free) Bon voyage, travel show season 1 to 4 (weverse) IN THE SOOP staycation show season 1 to 2(weverse) BTS are og youtubers, they have been releasing log videos before the debuted from 2012 on BANGTANTV. On bangtantv there are several categories of content you can find. The biggest ones are BANGTAN episode (behind scenes of award shows, music video shoots and other event behind scenes) BANGTAN BOMB (smaller additional behind scenes clips of shows and sometimes cam recorded live performances) Bts log (og content which started from 2012 having the members thoughts on life and gives some context as to what their thoughts are on their career.) Suchwita (2022) a talk show with host suga where he interviews guests who mostly happens to be bts members... They best way to get to know bts is to hear their stories from themselves. Also pre 2019 content on bangtan TV do not have subtitles. You can find subbed videos on bangtan subs a channel that used to be run by various translators who played a huge part in growing the fandom internationally pre 2019. BTS song translations are found on dooset bangtan a fan run website. BTS have several tour documentaries, all are available on Weverse and some available on Disney plus. Burn The Stage 2018 Love Yourself in seoul 2019 Bring The Soul 2019 Break The Silence 2020 Jhope in the box 2022 on Disney plus Suga Road to d-day 2023 on Disney plus The next bts documentary is the upcoming BTS monuments Beyond The Star which will probably come out this year on disney plus. I know this is a lot. When it comes to non music content jump into it in any order. But always music first. Music is the priority. Many of their stories are in their music. Just in my opinion anyone who hasn't listened to every single bts album can't claim to know bts. Cus every track and album is different. BTS are always evolving. But have fun army. It will be a long ride. 💜

Got it The chapter 1 legacy makes sense when you consider how much solo stuff they've released after proof "Interviews from each era" I don't know where to find those our how to search for it beyond "RM lonely/indigo interview" if you can recommend me some videos I would be very very grateful🥺 "album explanations lives from members on weverse" I've heard of weverse, but do they have subtitles since they would speak Korean on their lives? Thank you for explaining where to find bts thoughts on their solo work, now I just have to find something similar for their chapter 1 music "main non-Music content from bts" I was cracking up at this because western artists barely give more than disgruntled rants on instagram lives or twitter for the most part, with very few giving extra positive content like cameos or some pain content. THEN here you are telling me that BTS has SEASONS worth of multiple shows for FREE. It's very hilarious to see the difference in love being shown to fans🥰 "bangtantv" Thank you for the direction. Never would've guessed they have a Justin Berber-esqe come up of utilizing KZbin as "og KZbinrs". (I know they are exactly the same) I guess I would have to hunt for bangtail subtitles episode by episode by the mighty ARMYs. It couldn't have been easy for the bilingual ARMYs to suddenly turn into KZbinrs just for their fellow fans. Now I'm starting my channel, I can relate on some miniscule level I just want to say I love you for taking the time out of your day to not only watch my video but to also help breakdown and guide me through BTS content. Thank you so so much. Its been very enlightening 🤗

@@borastreet I'm glad I was of help. It's just in armys nature to talk non stop about bts. Also it's literally a maze of content... New fans could get lost in it. It can be intimidating. I became a fan in 2018 and It took me several months to sort out the different type of content. So yeah armys need other armys. Back in 2018 I entirely relied on the comment section of the bts msuic videos for information... from their names to interests and contexts behind songs I learned it all from other armys first before finding the actual clips of bts talking about stuff. I just realised the interview thing is extreamly hard to do if you are planning on reacting to stuff cus their old interviews are countless and some are just extreamly long and we're for TV programs and can be tiresome to search up. I have some alternatives. I will share the links of bts album reviews that suga used to do for the early bts albums. The album discussions were later done by rm in his lives like I mentioned above. These are much better than trying to swift through several interviews to get bts's thoughts on their own albums. Here is all the album reviews done by suga. kzbin.info/aero/PLbaRmJ5dKOtvWc6U8rE4wKC6vcUfkNvdI The album behind lives by RM (you can find the actual lives on weverse) kzbin.info/aero/PLEDTjovGRuk7lMmvRQKN5qR8FeRgTMuUN And I also realised that I left out something really big that's coming up. It's FESTA! FESTA is the yearly bts debut anniversary celebrations. Every year starting from June 1st we get tons of content for free including sound cloud songs, dance practice videos, photographs and performances. The biggest festa content they release is the "bangtan dinner party" (earlier it was called bts kul fm.) It's usually released on the final day that is June 13. It's usually an hour long video where the bts members sit down around a table and have the most interesting conversations and gives a summary of things that happen each year. Early shows, they discuss about their chaotic dorm life and drag each other for their quirky habits and then discuss their goals for the future. The present day festas have similar vibes but much more mature. Less dragging, more love and much more sentimental. You must have come across the last years festa dinner video where they all got emotional talking about their break. So add festa dinners (bts kul fm) into something that's a must watch because they really gives you an idea about who bts are as people. Here is the playlists (for older vids check bangtan subs) kzbin.info/aero/PL5hrGMysD_GvZPFPcdm9NCqKfQKPYrkFh Subs kzbin.info/aero/PLbaRmJ5dKOtuEpAuehvEffXoYsoWBJCG4 If you go through bangtantv you can also find several other types of content like vlogs(different from the early 2012 logs) vlogs are done by individual members. And also interviews for their solo albums can also be found on bangtan TV.

Live performance Behind the sceen's of MV's and Dance Practice video, their own game's show because they had to because they were ill treated on SK game shows and cut from TV programmes so there's a lot of extra things from BTS which the Kpop Industry now have started doing because whatever BTS do The Kpop Industry copies.

I think you'd like Epiphany by Jin! I recommend the live stagemix(it got the best sound quality of the videos I've seen on yt so far, and it's usually safer to react to as well). There's also an MV, but it's a shortened version of the song(and related to their BU storyline), so maybe checking out the lyrics or a lyric video before watching the live version would be a better choice.

@@borastreet Here's a link to the Epiphany stage mix! kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3Okc3yLeNiFpas And the Bangtan Universe(BU) is a fictional storyline that starts around 2015( with HYYH/The Most Beautiful Moment in Life era) and runs through several of their MVs as well as other types media(like books, webtoons and even a mobile game), and it's still ongoing. It can be a bit confusing and hard to follow for some people, but it's also really interesting for those who love digging deep into their videos to piece together the story and understand the symbolism. You'll get to it naturally once you start getting into their discography! :)

In a way they are done. With the first chapter of their lives. Proof is a culmination of that. When they come back together it will be to start chapter 2 and move forward.

Chapter 2 alone is a lot the handle and digest I knew FACE was a melancholy album outside of Like Crazy and Set Me Free pt 2. But going through the lyrics for the first time ever on this channel with you all and all your different theories, makes me realize that there is more to see, peel back and enjoy I can't wait to dive deep into the rest of the Chapter 2 album to see who they are as individual artists. I'm assuming Chapter 1 will show me how they work as a team of artists, so that would be awesome as well

When they come back it may be the beginning of chapter 3 - IDK. But chapter 2 officially began last year with the FESTA dinner before the drop of Jack in the Box and Hoseok's Lollapalooza hijack.

They are coming back they are always talking about it but they have to do their military service and they recognise they have to continue developing as individuals by working on their solo work as well. So that's why their solo work keeps coming out as they then go off to do their 18months of military service. They have also prepared thing for us in advance before Jin and J Hope started their military service. There's ab bit of a rush now for them to get their solo stuff out so they can all finished their military service around the same time so they can start work on group work again. They younger members will be entering their Military Service before they are required to enter just so they can all be together 2025. They had planned to do their military service but covid came along and their plan was kind of derailed then came their 3 English songs that were really all about cheering us all up and then everything went insane. Plus the South Korean law regarding military service got changed due to the rest of the kpop Industry demanding that Kpop artist should not have to do military service and using BTS as an example without BTS knowledge or agreement. They got a change in the law which allowed kpop artist to do leave their military service until they were 30years of age. However they could only do that if they had held the 'Cultural Merit Award'. The only artist in the Kpop industry that hold that award are the 7 members of BTS. So that allowed them to the 2 years years before the older members had to start their military service. So their plans all got postponed regarding this Military Service Time and time off group activities to do solo activities, which is now what is happening Solo activities followed by military service once that's completed back to group BTS activities. Eg Song writing, composing, producing, practicing and BTS concerts again.

It's not great to talk over what's being said as you miss a lot and it's just competing noise for your viewers.
