Hey Adam, thanks for your review! As you’re not getting the sound you’re after, I thought I’d share my observations below: It looks like you have the parallel fader all the way up at 100% in your examples. This won’t give you an ideal result as it’s essentially the same as cranking a send bus on a mixer all the way up to the max. Unlike a wet/dry compressor design, IHNY hosts a duplicate signal internally, so we suggest you use it in moderation :) With the parallel signal at 100%, like in your examples, the wet signal will usually get too loud relative to the dry signal-and you’re forced to turn the spank and output knobs way down. I agree, that isn't a good workflow! For most scenarios, we suggest you set the parallel signal only at somewhere between 25-75% and use the spank knob instead to add impact. This will result in a better over-all balance-and make the effect much more pleasing and punchy! Shoot us a note if you have any questions!

Hey BA, Thanks so much for responding. I definitely tweaked I Heart NY while on the track but found it sounded best setup at 100% on a send. I simply just didn't like what it was capable of doing. It wasn't dirty enough like say a Distressor or 1176 in "nuke mode". That plus there are other plugins already on the market that do the same thing as I Heart NY. So I'll repeat I think you all are off to a great start. Lovely looking GUI, well written user manual but I couldn't recommend IHNY based on it not bringing much new to the plugin table and subjective sound quality. But hey, many others here on KZbin liked it so my opinion is in the super minority.

If you look at this more like a transient enhancer it makes more sense i really like the snap it adds to transients especially when used right before a soft clipper it can gives drums a nice pop quick n east

EVERYBODY is reviewing this plugin!

I think everyone is reviewing it because it is dirt cheap. I like the solo button so you can hear how the harmonics are spared during the compression.

can already do this with OTT though.

@@Astronomater Yeah the solo button is great plus it turns I Heart NY into a regular compressor plugin. If free options with mix controls didn't exist I would recommend this no problem. While technically the parallel signal isn't a mix knob, its function is very similar. What is OTT? This plugin would probably be perfect for brand new engineers who want quick results without fussing around too much. For me, there are better options out there. I Heart NY was too clean for my tastes. To each their own though, so as always I recommend downloading it and trying it yourself because my opinion is in the minority. It seems the others who reviewed it loved it.

@@RealHomeRecording OTT is a free multi-band compressor so you can compress the punch of a kick or 808 and keep the upper harmonics.

@@Astronomater ahh OK. By the way for those wondering, this plugin www.pluginboutique.com/product/2-Effects/8-Compressor/3985-ComBear and Slate Digital's Monster are the freebies I was referring to in the video. Airwindows Logical may also sound pretty good.
