Oh my goodness that is a beautiful multi-colored carpet! The best thing to use on animal urine of any kind is white vinegar. It completely neutralizes the odor and disinfects at the same time. You would need to soak the carpet in the spots where there is urine with plain white undiluted vinegar, making sure it goes all the way through the carpet. Let is sit for a few minutes then use the shop vac or the carpet cleaner machine to get the vinegar out of the carpet, then rinse with plain water. Works like a charm.

+spidermonkey1014 I have never added it directly into the carpet cleaner or mixed it with cleaning solution. Not sure what would happen chemically if mixed with cleaners. I do use the carpet cleaner to get it up but then I empty the cleaner quickly and add plain water to go back over the carpet to get the vinegar out. Just be sure to rinse the carpet cleaner out afterward.

+spidermonkey1014 I have a pet spot cleaner carpet cleaner and I use a white vinegar/water solution in it. It works wonderfully. My dog had a bladder infection and had a few accidents from it so her urine smelled terrible like 10 times worse than normal. Completely gets rid of the smell and you don't end up with sopping wet carpet just damp until it air dries. I do 4oz of white vinegar to 20oz water.

I used that when my puppy was young. It works well, and it is non toxic. I know because on the way back from a huge PetCo haul, and it spilled all over $200 of pet items. I asked his breeder if it would be okay to give him the toys that it had spilled on. She said yes, and he hasn't as any problems with it! :)

If you use concentrated Odoban that comes in a gallon jug instead of the other stuff with the carpet cleaner it will get rid of the scent. That is what I have to use since i have a male dog and his pee has a strong musky odor to it. It works way better than the recommended stuff for carpet cleaners. Hope this helps for next time!

Look into the vinegar and dish soap method. My dog that I had to put to sleep recently was very sick and would have accident right before her passing. The vinegar method is the only thing that got the smell out out of the carpet.

Our 9 year old dog never went in the house and then started going on the carpet when I was pregnant. Our baby is 6 months old now and she still does it some times! So frustrating! The Rug Doctor worked well for a while but make sure that you do a water rinse over the entire area after you clean it all to get any residual soap up. That seems to help.

Well, while everybody is giving pet advice, any advice for cat dandruff? I have a fluffy cat who is kind of a "mutt", she came from the shelter and we don't know what she is. She's almost seventeen, and hates basically everything besides my mom, sun, food, sleeping, and being brushed. What suggestions do you have?

I've found that when my cats get older they groom themselves less. I would try and brush the cat to bring the oils up from their skin.

my 16 yr old cat has dandruff too, as Lin stated older cats groom less often so the dandruff is more noticeable. I either rub him down over his coat a couple times with a warm damp (wringed out) washcloth to pick up the skin flakes or I also will add a couple drops of olive oil to his dry food to make his tongue add the oil to his skin & coat when he does groom - or a combination of both. Do not add the oil to his food often - it can upset their tummies - I do this once a week - TOPS. Hope this helps :)

Coconut oil. Warm it up in your hands and rub her down and then brush her. Don't go crazy with it. A little goes a long ways.

Cullen another thing to consider is a carpet cleaner which works well which is specific to cats and dogs. Also another thing is maybe the dogs have a UTI which can cause random peeing cause they can't hold it in and it hurts. Maybe get them checked out.

Our puppy kept peeing in one spot. In-laws have a cleaner so I borrowed it. Went over the spot like 6 times and the water still came back brown. Makes me wonder if the cleaning people ever cleaned. Only had the puppy for 2 months and it was a spot we never went.

We had a similar issue with our dog with our first. What happened was she jumped off the couch or bed and pinched a nerve in her back and it was affecting her bladder control. We had to get her muscle relaxers to help her back which also caused control issues but once the back was fixed she stopped peeing. It started a day or two after coming home from the hospital so we just thought it was an issue with the baby. For light carpet borax and water made into a paste worked great.

I've this several times in the past and it always goes ignored😩The majority of cleaners in the supermarket contain ammonia. You won't smell the urine, afterwards because it's covered up by perfumes in the cleaner, but it's basically like putting more pee on the pee. Your dogs will be even MORE likely to go on that spot!!! You need either Nature's Miracle or Anti Icky Poo. You have to use a lot and it won't smell better until it's completely dry, but it DOES work! Also, Nature's Miracle has a solution specifically for carpet cleaners, available on Amazon. Lastly, as dogs get older they can have trouble holding it. It's just a reality, the same as humans. I can recommend the Doggie Lawn. It's a box of REAL grass and soil that's delivered to your house every couple of weeks or so. It's a great alternative to puppy pads because it's obviously mimicking the outside. Not sure what the ingredients are for the carpet cleaner you just used...often times the "pet formulas" still contain ammonia. And if they don't contain ammonia, they are pretty much just covering the odor. Nature's Miracle has an enzyme that actually eats the bacteria that causes the smell. Highly, highly recommended by every pet owner that I know!😎

Years ago Victoria Stilwell had a show about training dogs. She set up a video recorder in the room the dogs were peeing in and watched from another room. When the dogs would start to pee she would use a fog horn to distract the dogs and they would immediately stop and look around. She didn't want the dogs to know she was the source of the sound, so she had a mic in the room she was in that sent the sound to a speaker in the dog room. She had to do this a couple times but it stopped the behavior.

Cullen I completely understand. We have 2 dogs and our house it ALL carpet. I hate it. But we shampoo our carpets nearly every other month. So what we do for the odor. Vacuum the carpets, shampoo the carpet and then once dry, we sprinkle pet deodorizing baking soda. We got it from target in the pet section. It smells great and helps so much! Good luck!! And yes our water is just as dirty. Don't feel bad. I totally get it.
