When I was pregnant, I went into labor at 7 months, at work. The day after Christmas. People were yelling at me when I had a contraction. So when I was in the back of the store after a relief came in, the store manager came in, took one look at me and backed up 20 feet, yelling that he was NOT delivering the baby. I went on bed rest that day. Baby was born 4 weeks later. She is now 21.

@OhWell thank you. I hid the pregnancy fairly well, and even though I felt like a beached whale, lots of people couldn't tell. So I was getting a lot of weird looks from customers when I said that I was in labor. Plus, the manager was a volunteer firefighter, male, and did not want to see anything that would embarrass any of us later on. The supervisor, also male, was more willing to hand me tissues. When those two walked in, I was in the back office with my feet up and crying.

I delivered my beautiful baby girl in the entrance of the ER 8 months ago... My water broke 15min before arriving to the hospital, my baby wanted to be out reaaaally fast, and her head popped out while I was still on the back of the car. 8 ER nurses and doctors were waiting for me, none of them knew what to do. My midwife jumped on the ER bed and caught my baby girl right on time as she like... Flew out of me xD the staff just gaped at us, absolutely not knowing what to do or what was expected of them 😂 they looked TERRIFIED ! When I was still in school, way in the beginning even, my very first “shadow” shift in the St. Joe’s ER; woman comes in who very seriously misjudged how long she should wait to come in. Everyone was in a full panic, they bypassed triage and a room and just started running for the elevator. She was demanding an epidural but was already delivering into her leggings. They put me at her feet because I was the only one in the elevator who had delivered a baby IRL, and that’s when I was 17 and getting instructions from a 911 operator. L & D met us at the elevator and took her and baby before placenta had been delivered, and by the time we got back off the elevator, she was already on the board and the nursery tune was playing over the speakers. I’m just gonna hazard a guess that it was a very memorable first first for that poor woman. Holy shit I am old. It just occurred to me that that kid he’s probably finishing college.

As an EMT I had to deliver a baby in the back of an ambulance on the side of I-95. You can't deliver the baby while the ambulance is moving, so we had to pull over. Bonus is the call came out as "patient in distress" and they were on the side of the highway. I of course assumed it was motor vehicle related. Unfortunately the first thing the woman said was "I've been having heavy contractions for almost an hour and my last baby came out after 45 minutes!"

I participated in the delivery of both my sons. It really isn't all that scary. I mean, I am sure my wife was scared, but for me it wasn't all that bad. The first was vacuum assisted, which is basically a suction cup on the baby's head attached to a rope. It was kinda like pull starting a lawnmower, just really slowly. Nurse had me pull while she did other things. No biggie. She asked if I was ok, and I told her I'm a farmboy. She said "God I love farmboys! None of y'all faint!" No ma'am. The second was easier. I cut the cord on both of them. Little blood, no big deal there, either. Wasn't some terrifying thing....just how people get into the world. I mean, miracle of birth an such, but it's not something to fear.

Haha it was hilarious how it took an EMT to point out to the 10 of us that it was just my spilled water, not my water breaking! 😅

I had my second baby a week ago and went through the main entrance of the hospital (I think). There were staff checking people in and doing temp checks and I came in with 6-8 min apart contractions and waited for my husband to park the car. As I was going through a contraction I leaned over on a table to wait out the pain and one of the staff, a young man asked if I was ok and offered a wheelchair I said I'm fine I'm in labor it's just a contraction his jaw dropped and looked so scared. I wish I could've laughed but I was too much in pain lol. 16 hours later I had my second beautiful baby boy.

Seriously though, even if her water broke, there would, usually, still be plenty of time to send her to l&d. some women’s waters break before they even get to the hospital. I out loud said "fuck" before turning around to see amniotic fluid had filled up the elevator floor, was all over my shoes, and the husband says "what do we do?" And in true ER fashion I very calmly said "run." The hospital was down the street from my work, it was a quick stop for safety. Those were 15 minutes of hell!! The first time I stopped there I went to the ER first because I didn’t know. Well, me being in the military thought I was getting special treatment because I was pregnant. The hospital is usually slow, as everywhere else, specially since they use the ER as a sick call during the day. Come to find out they just wanted to get me to the right department ASAP. There they committed the mistake of telling me to go straight to them from then on. 😂

Most of the male nurses and a few female nurses would be grab a gurney, send someone to secure elevator, and start yelling “Rush Roller” trying to get her to Labor Unit before IT happened. Others, mainly female, immediately started rushing around grabbing everything needed to deliver the baby in the ER and excited at thought of getting to bring another life into the world. While some RN was always disappointed, at least they were always ready for whatever stage of labor the woman was in when she came thru the doors.
