BRO THE CAT! The black cat was in a painting in the attic with the same blue eyes, it seems that the paintings are interdimensional portals to other worlds. If you look hard enough you can see a painting with the baby and it has the same thing you saw at the end of chapter one the baby and the cat seem to be able to cause these portals to open dragging you along with them. Basically the baby is the king of hell that's why he likes the king piece. Jesus christ I'm an idiot but I LOVE any sort of lore I can find. Hope this helps with understanding the story of this game.
