Grammy5, I have been thinking about you so much. I remember when I wanted a monkey after I lost my dad. I was going through a very deep depression over the loss of my dad. We got scammed after waiting 6 months for a monkey that wasn't even going to happen. I was devastated. I remember sitting in my office feeling so depressed with a rescue cat sitting in my lap. I found him at someone's farm laying in a bucket with his little eyes matted shut so I brought him home and nursed him back to health. He loved me as much as I loved him. I looked down at my cat and he was lovingly looking me in the eyes. I remember saying out loud to him "I love you! If I never get a monkey it doesn't matter because you need me and I love you with all of my heart." I felt so much peace in my heart. I really meant what I said to him and he felt my love and devotion to him. I stopped looking to find a monkey after that and I was at peace. A few weeks later, out of the blue, we got an email from a breeder. I had left that man an email several weeks earlier and never heard back from him until then. He sent me a picture of Lillian and said "Here is a baby girl. If you want her let me know." The rest is history. But, let me be very honest with you. People think monkeys are like children, they are not. People think they will raise them to be sweet, affectionate, and friendly to others. I thought that too. When monkeys hit puberty they will choose one person with whom they will bond. They need constant attention, they cannot be left alone or in a cage because they will get mean. If they get bored they will act up. If they see a weakness in you they will try to rank above you because they will think you aren't capable of taking care of business as they can. They watch for weakness in everyone. If they don't like someone they will be a threat to them, even to family members. I have a friend with a monkey. She pulled all of his teeth because he got mean. One day when I was at her house I saw her monkey attack her grandchild on the leg. If he had his teeth he would have seriously injured that little boy. They will try to be your right-hand man and won't let anyone take their rank away. If they are not raised by someone who understands them they can get out of control and even dangerous. I know other monkey owners that have raised their monkeys with lots of love and attention but the monkeys ended up seriously biting someone. Billy and I are very careful with the girls and do not let people pet them now. In my rescue facility, we have taken in many feral (wild) animals so I have a lot of experience on how to rehabilitate those types of animals. Without that experience I don't think my monkey girls would be as sweet as they are. They cannot think like humans so we have to think like monkeys. Sounds funny but it is true. Billy and I are totally devoted to making our monkeys happy and as you probably know we have spent a lot of time, money, and effort giving them the outdoor enclosure to help them be well-rounded and happy. It is a lot of work. I hope this helps you find some peace in your heart about not owning a monkey. There are so many precious animals that are wanting someone to love them and will be dedicated to the one that helps them. I understand how you feel because I felt that way for a while too. It took my precious cat to make me see that love is love and we had that for one another in spades. @@monkeygracie572 I never thought I would get a message back from you, it just shows how wonderful and caring you are to take time out of your busy day to message a complete stranger, I lost my dad also in 2018, I quit my job so I could move my dad in with me and take care of him because he couldnt take care of hisself anymore he lived with me for 6 years, he had a stroke in his sleep and passed away sept 2018, and my only sibling which was my sister and best friend passed away from breast cancer in 2005 she was only 37, I have 5 kids but their grown and all live in different states so I dont get to see them much, my whole life all I ever did was take care of people, before my dad lived with me I had my 21 year old mentally disabled neice living with me, now it's just me and my husband and our 2 cats, i'm having a hard time and really depressed, I think its empty nest syndrome, my wanting a baby monkey started when I was a little girl and I think because I'm depressed and feel useless unless I have someone to take care of, my obsession with monkeys has completely taken over, for the past 10 years I've done nothing but research on how to care for a baby monkey, ive read everything there is to read about monkeys, my husband says hes worried cuz I stay up til 3 or 4 am watching monkey videos so I only get like 2 hours asleep a night, i know I'll never be able to get a monkey and that kills me, I wish there was a place where I can volunteer to help care for monkeys but theres no where in my state to do that, I just gotta find a way to deal with it, I'm really sorry for this message idk why I told you everything that I did but it feels good to talk to someone that understands what I'm feeling, thank you again for messaging me it meant alot to me, Take care and God bless, Give those baby girls a hug and kiss for me and tell Billy I think hes a awesome daddy, and your a wonderful mommy I think alot of you both, love Tracy

Hi Tracy, thanks so much for sharing with me. I do understand how you feel. God bless you for having such a big heart and helping the ones who need lots of love and care. Billy and I had several miscarriages when we first were married and we faced a lot of heartaches. We decided to stop trying to have children and instead reach out to the children that needed us and so we adopted 4 boys. Our first 3 were older and came with a lot of memories. It was challenging but we stuck with it and gave them the best home we could give. We adopted 2 sets of brothers. We had to foster the last 2 boys for 3 years and we suffered for those 3 years wondering if they would go back to their biological family who had treated them so bad. At the end of 3 years, we were blessed to be able to adopt them. We also raised my little cousin who needed lots of love. I admire you for your loving heart and I can feel that specialness through your comments. I understand how depression works! Bless you! You have the kind of love the world needs so please hang in there and just be your loving, giving self. You will be blessed for your goodness! We don't always know how that blessing will come but it will come. I know I explained a lot about how monkeys can be in my last comment to you but let me reiterate that they can be very hard to raise. We watched a lot of videos about monkeys before we got them and no one tells what it is really like. We are learning every day. Billy loves Lillian with all his heart but she doesn't want anything to do with him now that she is an adult. We hope that will change later but who knows. It hurts me to see Lillian reject Billy. You love the monkey, they bond so easily. Do you love it enough to find a sanctuary so it can have a foster mother and live and play in semi-wild enclosures with trees and their own kind?. Monkeys are wild and they can still be successfully integrated into a troop. It would be hard. I know but please just look into it.

No one could love them like we do. We have 3 monkeys so they have plenty of monkey time together. We also built them a 20' x 20' x 18' high enclosure outside. We take them to our land and let them run free (off leash). We feed them fresh fruits and vegetables. What more could a monkey sanctuary do for them? Not more at all. If you were to watch our videos you would have already known these things. We love them enough NOT to put them in a sanctuary! Have a great day.

Hi Frances, Thank you so much for the sweet comment! As you know from our videos I have rescued unwanted, neglected, and abused animals for several years. Billy and I built the sanctuary for them with our money because we love all animals. When the commenter "honey owen" said we should give the monkeys to a sanctuary I had to laugh. The girls are a part of our family and I would never rip that away from them. We try to look at the world through monkey eyes as you can tell through our videos, lol.
