We've seen the owner using an electric file before, and from all of Sugar's behaviour there was no fear involved at all. Sugar is simply a spoilt little monkey who thinks that she should choose the times for her owner's attentions rather than always being co-operative. The owner seems to be pretty good (so far) at getting around this tendency; but it will get harder.

I see a little negativity here, Jen, we r all entitled to our opinions , that is why we all have the opportunity to comment, primates still communicate pretty well with humans, what happens when they get older remains to be seen, but at the end of the day, we all love Monkey Sugar, and the family whose raising her!!

@@user-nl3nz5sp7d All is a very large number. This channel has fewer than 16,000 subscribers, some 0.0002 of the world's population... a very long way from "all". To say that regular subscribers enjoy the videos (none of us actually love these people, or the monkey, love is a strong emotion; not what we feel for people on the internet whom we have never met) more or less goes without saying - and is no measure of anything significant. Primates, especially the lower primates (ie. small monkeys rather than the great apes) are well known to have far less intelligence than humans. That's simply a statement of scientific fact, not "negativity" or an opinion - just a well documented truth. As for whether monkeys should be kept as pets... the law is pretty clear on that. You may have whatever silly opinions you choose - it won't change the facts at all.

Sugar is a protected species; so she is kept in a private home illegally by any measure of the law as it stands in almost every country including Vietnam. However the authorities in Vietnam seem to be somewhat random about enforcing the law (given that they could easily find all the monkeys on YT) so Sugar may, or may not, be picked up at some time in the future. In truth it is wrong to keep monkeys as pets, however well you care for them... but it also seems highly unlikely given the facilities (or lack thereof) available that any monkey which has lived in a domestic setting for as long as Sugar (or even more so for Kaka) can be successfully re-wilded. Action should be taken to prevent (entirely) the trade in wild baby monkeys so that there are no more of these unfortunate babies (remember that Sugar's current owners bought her from a previous owner who was not treating her well). But it seems utterly pointless to remove established, happy and healthy monkeys from their owners simply for them to fail to survive in a wild setting.
