Glad you got to see a harteri! They’re such an incredible species. I just hope that people are careful sharing their spots, I could definitely tell where that was. we’ve been working really hard to help rebound their population, you might’ve noticed some of the signs we have up for them. Definitely one of my favorite species to see.

Nice smooth softshell and rattlesnake diversity. This kangaroo rat isn’t going to make it for long if it is friendly to everyone.

Great video as always...Regarding the kangaroo rat, I have personally encountered a similar type of injury while road hunting in the western regions. These animals often dash in front of vehicles, managing to avoid direct impact, yet they can collide with the undercarriage, resulting in them being thrown aside. While some individuals may survive this encounter, such behavior is indicative of a "concussed" state. Frequently, these animals are not in optimal condition, although occasionally they may appear as depicted here.

Come to NW Florida....north okaloosa county....we have 3 rivers here Shoal the smallest...Yellow and Blackwater and about any of the creeks that feed into them and you'll find your smooth/slimy softshell turtles. Many years ago I was catfishing at night and caught one that was boarding on 2 ft long and was a tad PO'ed...lol He managed to unhook himself and escaped thank goodness😅

Super dope trip Noah. This was another great video. Ive never been blessed to see a smooth softshell but ive seen many spinys. That was such a cool find. And i couldn't believe there was a nerodia a state away from me I've somehow never heard of. The blacktailed rattler was beautiful as they always are. But that kangaroo rat was just a straight up gangster. Chillin, snatching other animals food, and just not giving 2 fucks about it. He was definitely a bro. He'll probably call you in a couple of days to say whats up. I appreciate the content. Stay cool homey. Catch you on the flip-side Richard from Arkansas

Keep the awesome vids coming. I’m learning SO much!! God bless Ms Kaitlyn, I KNOW she has to be tired of hearing about snakes🤣🤣🙏🏻😂

I know what you mean about Japanese landcrabs-- the ones I saw were *exactly* the same red-orange shade you see Torii gates and other traditional things painted, and were about as big as half a golfball. But my college grounds in Pensacola FL (Univ of West FL) had tons of red landcrabs too; they lived in holes along the shore of the swampy area that was connected to the intercoastal waterway there. Seen them along brackish water canals over by the old airport in Panama City FL where I grew up, too, but a more dun, brownish variety. They seem to like wiregrass territories. Your smooth softshell turtle: In SE AZ I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple like that out at the local wetlands (it's a massively successful water-reclamation area that's built a *wonderful* habitat, with deep ponds and a thriving ecology-- look up 'Sweetwater Wetlands Park' in Tucson), so if they're considered to have made it to the Sonoran Desert wet areas, there you go... keeping in mind that, like any wet area out here, people often dump unwanted aquatic pets at them so they could've been added. I'll try to get a solid pic of one next time I go there. They really are fantastic little creatures-- that vivid green and the weird almost-football-lacing pattern on the back just stands out. Also, I am totally stunned that that little one didn't chomp you, because it probably would've bitten me.

I believe those crabs are the invasive Harris mud crab, which can be found all over the world. But for some reason they've taken to a few Texas lakes like Lake Balmorhea and Possum Kingdom which is where I found them. Pretty weird seeing crabs so far inland.

I don't go herping very often anymore because I always see the same species and a lot of the time I see the same exact individuals. Most of the time I'd rather watch yours and Will's videos because I get to see things that I would never see in Maryland. Most days the only herps I see are my pets but they are good at hiding in their heavily planted enclosures. Even my box turtles even though they can't leave my backyard still have plenty of places to hide in my backyard. Around 5:00 pm my turtles start coming out to the food saucer to eat.

@AdventureswithLandon I work with venomous species not just snakes. The whole process from milking to antivenom and everything in between is fascinating. Thus far I've been bitten by two copperheads, 4 bites one Black widow spider, a Timber Rattlesnake, and attacked by a Rabid fox . The Timber bite I'm recovering from right now. As bad as it is , the black widow was much worse. I was paralyzed unable to breathe on my own. On life support. I still have issues from the Black widow. Even when in a controlled setting with the best safety protocols in place accidents happen . No matter how well you know the species or how much experience handling venomous species bites or stings can still occur.
