Baby led weaning is fantastic! We did a mixture of baby led weaning and some purée, I did make some of my own baby food and put then in pouches for on the go etc. but fed him solids at an early age. It was awesome! He has become a great eater and had no problems with textures that some of our friends children did (for those going to argue, obviously not all kids fed baby food will have any problems eating!) :)

If you grate the steamed carrots, she will find it easier to eat and less likely to choke. Also, with banana, slice a ring around the middle and peel half the banana. That way she has a handle! Mince meat, cottage cheese, broccoli, mozzerella balls and udon noodles soaked in miso soup are a favourite in my house. : ) love baby led weaning, my girls are such great eaters!

Aside from carrots, try peaches too! They are sweet and have more flavor on the outside so she may be more inclines to suck on them more, and they are a bit softer so she may have an easier time trying to eat them, they may also be a bit messier XD Worth a shot, I would love to see her try all sorts of things and find her favorite thing to nibble on :D

I've had friends do BLW and they've found offering little one a baby spoon and putting a little of the food on the spoon for the baby helps. That way they are still learning to self feed & explore but you aren't actually spoon feeding if that makes sense :) Good luck with solids!

The best thing we did with blw was a rib bone with tiny pieces of meat she loved it!!! Best teething toy ever! Plus it was hilarious to watch her knaw and growl at us lol. Our pediatrician said it's an awesome idea for teething babies just make sure there is no sharp edges or loos pieces of bone. We did that at 7 months : )

We did baby led weaning with our 2nd boy and I prefer it much better than purées. My 2nd boy is not a picky eater at all and he has no issues trying new foods compared to my older boy.

I am intrigued by this. My baby girl is two weeks younger than Gaines and she is on baby food that I make for her but she'd love to gnaw on some steamed carrots. I'm going to check out the baby led weaning site. My baby gets so hungry and she doesn't have teeth so I don't know how much food she could possibly get nutrients from when sucking on a carrot, even if it's steamed. Very interesting. Gotta research more. Keep up the videos with Gaines as she has BLW because I would love to see how she progresses through it all.

I'm glad y'all are doing Baby Led Weaning. I wish I had heard of it when my 2 were babies, although my daughter didn't like baby food. She would eat the rice cereal, but nothing else. I actually took food we were eating and mashed it up and she loved it.

i am doing a mixture of baby mush and what we are eating my little girl is 7 months on the 28th of this month, today we lightly mashed up some veggies and she loved it we spoon fed her some so she ate some and let her play with the rest she needed a wash after lol just wish she slept as well as MG

That's the way to do it. While they need food in their bellies rather than just playing with it & getting nothing, especially at six months, it is important for them to play with it & explore it too. It usually leads to less problems with texture later on.

Oh my word Cullen sounds just like my husband haha. Our lo is a month older than Gains we also did blw every time she eats he is on me."she is choking!!!" I have to reassure him all the time lol. She is a very adventures eater I'm glad we did blw because she eats eggs beans vegetables and fruit mushroom risotto is her favorite. She loves salsa and lemons and limes too. It's funny I see people feeding their baby food from a jar and I'm over here like " eden eats your beans and salsa." Lol we do some purees on the go because she loves the plum organics squeeze pack because she can still feed herself.

I know a lot of ppl don't agree with blw, I actually did this with both my boys who are much older now.. I didn't know there was a name for it.. lol. When my kids could sit up on their on they were fed real food.. we never really bought baby food.. they are both good eaters.. and we never had any problem breaking them from the bottle..

I have a daughter that is exactly 1 month older then Gaines (Aug. 21st, 2014). We did BLW with our son and now with our daughter. Suggestion, I think the carrots need to be softer. They say if you can squish it with the roof of your mouth and tongue then baby can 'chew' it. Our son driver right in at 6 months and our daughter didn't show interest till last week so don't stress if she isn't interested right away. BLW is the best!!!!
