Wow . I m eager to learn swimming but I have 2 Major problems 1. I panic when squat underwater soon after water good into my nose n eyes 2. Now I can only hold my breath for 10 to 15 seconds max
@TakeTheRide6 ай бұрын
@@Eel-on_Musk if you take a breath and just squat and stick the edge of your nose under the edge of the water, keep your eyes above the water to keep you from panicking, just know that water cannot enter your nose if you are blowing air out your nose. So take a deep breath start blowing air out your nose and put your nose under the water for 1 second. Keep doing that. Then do it for 2 seconds. Then breathe out a little bit slower and do it for 3 seconds. When you can get up to 5 seconds. You can also get a nose clip to keep any water from getting in there and just blow air out your mouth. Try it.

Awesome job Dad! As a Swim Instructor, was searching for videos and came across yours! Clicked bcuz this is much how I teach my students. A few pointers if I may: Kids as young as 18 mos can grab the wall and pull themselves out. They just need to develop strength over time and have you coach. Also, before signaling a jump in, have the child "hang ten" toes over the edge of pool deck so they do not scrape their feet or fall short 😖 lastly, I love the technique of using distraction, and while that is effective, having the child blow small bubbles during submersion as well will keep the body/mind calm. I have a 3 year old student who dove with me last year into the 6ft depth, swam to the wall and got out on her own. This year, her sister (4 yrs) is diving down to the 9ft depth and pushing off the bottom to the surface. My grandson who is 3, touches the 5ft depth and flutter kicks his way up to surface. Can't wait to take him to a deeper pool! God Bless you Dad, you are one of a kind and the world needs more like you ❤

Unbelievably, this is exactly how my father taught me to swim almost 50 years ago! I've been a "water kid" ever since and am eternally grateful. Even swam across the lake on my own when I was 6 years old (with Dad following behind in the dinghy of course). Still love the water to this day. Most of my vacations are even planned around it! I also learned the "swim to the edge and pull yourself around" lesson. I wonder how many kids lives would be saved if parents with pools would just spend a day and teach this to their precious babies.
@Skeptique2 жыл бұрын
I think this was probably the norm 50 years ago. I don't even remember anything about learning to swim, it was as natural to me as walking. To this day I have never learned proper strokes or how to dive, but I was so comfortable in the water I was jumping off the high dive boards in public swimming pools when I was 7.

I agree Garrett is an excellent trainer! He teaches respect for the water and everything in it! Starting slow in a safe and calm environment with no pressure. As a child I remembered learning to crawl around the walls and floating made swimming fun and safer for me. Being able to flip on my back to relax, calm down, or just to catch air made a world of difference. God bless and good luck with your journey to the sea!💕🙏🎆🎇

Always respect the water, as he says, and understand the currents in the area if you are swimming in nature. Also understand your own abilities/ limits. Everyone should learn to swim or at be able to least comfortably tread water.

@@jeannedigennaro6484 Very true many people don’t know how to swim. People I’ve known, told me it’s because they don’t live near an ocean. The problem with that idea is that floods can occur anywhere and accidents can happen on boats, docks and lakesides. Knowing how to swim keeps you calm and discourages you from making as many careless mistakes around water. Just knowing how to float and doggie paddle can save your life. It saved mine!

You got it! I have 7 kids and this is exactly how I taught each one of them. I knew I needed to respect their fears to build their trust because my dad taught us by tossing us in the pool and mocking us when we cried. So I hated swimming as a child, even though we had a pool. Once I could touch the bottom, I had confidence to start going under. I ended up loving swimming and also knowing how I would NOT train my kids one day. They are all grown now except my 9 yr old and they all LOVE swimming. Diving toys and patience are key!

I love when a father teaches their children beautiful life lessons...Children learn from watching their parents...Even when you think they’re not paying attention
@plips717553 жыл бұрын
I’m almost 70 and still today think of things my grandparents taught me. I brag about stuff they did or taught me. They probably never thought I was paying attention to remember so much. They have been gone a while but gosh I still miss them everyday. They did everything they could to make my life happy. They didn’t have much money but I always had what I needed. And most of what I thought I wanted really didn’t make much difference. You remember the time they spend with you, not the things they give you. It’s time, not things that last. For adult children or even teens - don’t lose the time you get to spend with parents and grandparents. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. You don’t get them back. And it doesn’t work to say tomorrow is another day because one day there will be no tomorrow. And you will regret the time not spent with them when they are older and can’t do what they use to. So then, just sit and remind them of what you and they use to do. Ask them about their life, what they did before you were even born. You may think I don’t have time, next week or next month I will get around to it. At some point you won’t get the change. Believe me. You will be glad if you spend the time now. Their time is short - make it happy for them.

That brings back memories for me. I taught my kids to swim. It’s awesome when they go underwater at such a young age and you can see they they are completely relaxed, and comfortable. I did the thing when they were an infant where you blow in their face a little and put them underwater for about 5 seconds. It really works. It was gratifying when at the local swimming pool my kids were teaching their friends to swim telling them the same things I taught them.I also let them hold my neck when I swam underwater. They loved it, I loved it, and they learned. They grow up fast. Enjoy and appreciate the time you spend with them.

This is so beautiful ❤️. There are some people will take kids to the Ocean. They have never , never been in the pool or ocean. That's where accident become failure. My kids were small. I would take them to the High School near use. It's never to late , never too Old to learn how to Swim. The most important thing is to learn how keep yourself above water . Survive. What other advice do others have? It's great to heard other people advice. Beautiful 🌹❤️ to hear others.

Many see a pool and only see the water as danger, a source of fear. The pure joy and freedom of water is unknown. I came back from my first 7 mile swim across a lake a conquering hero, in my own mind.
@lesterferrer233 жыл бұрын
@@valek7700 yup, it’s dangerous if the kids are not trained well and doing it without supervision. He started teaching the basics and little by little. It’s more dangerous if the kids don’t know how to swim specially when they needed.
@MaryAlice613 жыл бұрын
@@valek7700 I just saw your "full" post. Not sure why you picked me since what you said has no bearing on what i said. But here goes: First no one here is advocating that toddlers be left alone to teach themselves to swim. I would not even condone an adult habitually swim alone. Everyone needs a back up at times and a competent swimmer who knows CPR is pretty good plan . We have long known even new-born babies have reflex reactions to help them survive in that "alien" water environment. Many with amazingly good outcomes against all odds. The very purpose of water instruction is teaching survival skills and techniques that are age appropriate. That's why swim instructors require certification. It is far better to teach skills than leave a small child around so much as a bathroom unprepared. Practice will absolutely increase lung capacity and skills. Knowledge will absolutely dispel panic that wastes energy. Loose your sense of direction in the water? Easily solved and should be trained to the point that it is second nature to gain your bearings. Yes, even toddlers can do it. At age 70 I certainly do not have the strength and endurance i did at 19, But falling into the deep end does not spell my doom nor should it for a very young child. Swimming is also play time. A time when limits are tested, new experiences are had. A parent ruled by fear robs a child of the best things of being a kid. Your message seems to advocate that children not be taught to swim, making them all potential drowning victims. I remember as a child tossing chains of different weight into the water to retrieve, great fun! I find your answer to be full of banalities, half truths and outright superstition. I won't bother to try to teach you the science of respiration, but, your post clearly shows...misconceptions. Yes, swimmers blow bubbles, but it is not a sign of distress it is a technique. I saw no sign that this father is an inattentive teacher. Part of teaching is the delicate art of applying pressure and knowing the capabilities of the student. At that point the child was ready to leave the water, the child clearly knew how to rest in the water, there was no need for him to make a sprint to the steps in a single effort. He managed his strength and made it on his own. Confidence intact, no trauma inflicted and safely out. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS WHOLE THING IS ABOUT.
