This video shows the tenancity and the spirit of someone who doesnt let a language barrier stop himself from connecting to the rest of the world. The fact he is continually trying to speak the language, despite knowing he isnt able to deliver 100% is what we should all be striving for when we travel to another country. We love you Käärijä ❤

He really helped me to overcome my fear of speaking wrong english in front of others who can speak it very well. I think many people have the problem that they do understand a lot of english because of movies or memes on the internet but aren't used to speak it, so they fail succesfully in speaking it even though they understand a lot.

@@Helena-sg5st That is so true for me too, 100%. I can read and listen to english perfectly fine, and write ok too, but talking ... not so much, that's a totally different story. I'm glad he can represent everyone in the same situation, and good for you overcoming your fear :) I believe most people may be better than they think, but are afraid of sounding stupid and being judged. That's the case for me at least. Luckily käärijä is super charming, which helps a lot, haha :) More people should learn from this guy, and not care so much what other people think.

it's so funny to see eurovision fans finding out about ralli-english. it's a thing. and it has a very simple explanation, finnish is always pronounced exactly how you spell it, meanwhile english is not. therefore, finns speaking english have trouble pronouncing english words "properly" cuz it goes against our natural instincs of how words should be pronounced. and yes, käärijä is very cute and i am very proud of him for trying his best at english even tho he knows he's not the best at it.
@raapyna8544
@raapyna8544 Жыл бұрын
I speak excellent English but somehow I'm proud when we send people who don't speak English much at all like Patrik Laine and Käärijä to represent us abroad. It feels good, like how Japanese and French people don't need to speak English. It feels like a privilege to only need to speak your own language while being a world champion in something. Finnish rally drivers are famously bad at English and it's an example of this too, although they actually often speak very good English, just the pronounciation is very Finnish. I also know many university researchers whose pronounciation is horrible... I almost feel proud of it. They're still excellent in their field and speak professional academic English, just with very Finnish accent. I almost feel like a simp for speaking English so good.
@juniperp8650
@juniperp8650 Жыл бұрын
I am not sure if this is the case. I mean if the reason behind the difficulty is that finnish is pronounced exactly how you spell it. Greeks also pronounce words the way they are spelled but they don't do the same mistakes. However, they have one of the worst accents when speaking English. Finnish accent in english is so cute

Does it also have something to do with English stress patterns? As a native English speaker there are some words that I've known all my life and still if you asked me to say them out loud I'd stumble over which syllables to stress. Is that an added challenge because Finnish stress patterns follow much stricter rules?

Start learning Finnish (or a different language if you are Finnish, couldn't tell from your username lol). I guarantee you can experience what it's like trying to speak a language you are not familiar with at all plus you get to keep your fluent English

I use English as my teaching language, and I noticed that my English got more clumsy after I watched tons of Käärijä videos. xD

I absolutely love the Finnish accent it’s so cool, I’ve been wanting to learn Finnish but it’s so dang hard, translating Finnish to English is already difficult just in general, as most Nordic languages are, but he is literally doing great I love it sm

it's how it would be pronounced if it was finnish. and also the only reason i know how to spell the word, cuz i pronounce it like it's spelled.

@@evamuhlbauer4575 I think he pronounced it like that because he knew he couldn't pronounce it right. That way you could at least recognise the word and understand it. (Längvits would be the alternative)
