you wanna know about my thumb, dear boy? intrigue ya, does it boy? my thumb? let me tell you about it. i come from a long line of hitchhikers, all with bleeding massive thumbs. you see the thumb is a tremendous boon to the hitchhiker. helps with work, you know what i mean? only problem was when i was a child my thumb was tiny, not just tiny like a single sugar puff, disgusting! even my own mother would reel back in horror like an anaconda. ooooh what is it! get it out of here! its tiny! its horrible its revolting! take your tiny thumb and get it out of here and never dout on my door again, she'd say. i had to leave the family unit in search of a miracle. i wandered the streets looking the answer and people told me of a magic shaman, part man part hornet. so i went looking for him, i went everywhere. i combed the universe in search of the stripey insect shaman. turns out he was in a local primary school, in the bin. reeling about in the apple cores, like they do. and i stood there! with my thumb out. and he stung it! and he stung it! he grabbed onto it, it was like he was making love to it with his sting. in and out, in and out, more and more! oh the puss, the pain, the black voodoo, the wet jigsaw puzzle- i didnt know what was happening! ooh for days i was in a trance, but when i came too. there it was! like a fleshy maraca. a thumb of gigantic proportion. a miracle! i said. i miracle! youre a true wizard, how can i ever repay ya! and he said to me, 500 euros. 500 euros! you wont see penny one from me you slag. and as i raised my thumb up to smash his tiny skull in i could see in his little insect face, i could see him thinking, ooooh i created that monster. i created that thumb and now its killing me. my own beasty creation, killing me dead. the sweet irony. i think he was saying that, although its a long time ago and in hindsight he coulda just been shitting himself.

Caught the live show, watched the Boosh over and again, was really looking forward to luxury comedy and it just was not funny :-( I think the yin and yan between Julian and Noel works sometimes when I play in my band I can hear the boosh in my head especially 'Searching for the new sound'
@michaeljames49042 жыл бұрын
It’s no accident that so much of British comedy is the end product of writing dynamics between two people. Look at the forgettable first series of Blackadder when Ben Elton was writing alone before Richard Curtis came on board and the pair made it a classic. Likewise a lot of stand ups also have a writing partner you never see. Julian was the professional musician and wordplay specialist while Noel brought the surrealism, look, and crazy scenarios on board. The wild success of their stage tour made Fielding want to try and crack America but by then Barratt was desperate to start a family as his partner, the comedienne Julia Davis, was two years older than him and time was running low for them to do so. Noel, at five years younger than Julian, only had kids many years later when he was already hosting Bake Off; as he’d nabbed himself a wife eight years his own junior and therefore had that freedom - _in other words fifteen years younger than Julian’s missus._ They were an amazing double act but their trajectory was largely governed by how the older member of the pair only found fame while already in his late thirties; though the Boosh were well known to Edinburgh Fringe goers prior. Coogan really deserves great praise for bringing them to the wider audience which they richly deserved for the time they had.
