@COMALiteJ6 жыл бұрын
That’s the same music he wrote for the series finale, “Sleeping in Light,” that plays after JMS hisownself (dressed as a B5 worker) turns off the lights for the last time (he posted online that there was no way in aytch-ee-double-hockey-sticks that anyone else was going to do that) and the station is decommissioned and destroyed. JMS told Franke to “break our hearts” with the music for those scenes. And he did.

The salute always make me emotional. The episode itself embodies one of the most important themes of the series, the inevitability of change. This is exemplified in a line spoken by Commander Sinclair in the season 1 finale "Chrysalis" when he is sitting on the couch and laments that "nothing is the same anymore." It never is.
@BloodyBobJr10 жыл бұрын
I don't think any other show I've ever watched has given me the same kinda emotional reaction. I love all the characters, even many of the minor ones (like Ta'lon Lorien and others) are Amazing. Whenever I watch the 2 final episodes I start to tear up like a sap.. cause I wished it could keep going. But if it really went any father it would start to defeat its purpose, that everything changes and things eventually come to an end.

+Jere Aho I've only teared up one other time and that was when Michael Scott finally left the Office. Though the tears were a little more dramatic for Babylon 5.

The music is the same that Christopher Franke wrote in response to JMS' request that he 'break out hearts' for the destruction of B5 in "Sleeping in Light". I agree with the comment that Bruce was clearly deeply moved as well, you can see his face clench up for just a moment. I love the line-up view of the next generation - the inheritors who will continue the work of B5 over the next 20 years until the end. The B5 story is the story of everyone, of how individual lives are shaped by events great and small, and how the one truth of life is that it changes everyone. It is the story, ultimately, of hope.

So do I. I miss this show.

@@charlesneely I guess on Babylon 5 the crew is free to decide if they wear the standard Earthforce uniform or the Babylon 5 specific one. Don't forget, unlike before the civil war when the station was ruled by Earthforce Babylon 5 is a neutral station in Season 5. Yes, Langley wears her Earthforce uniform - because she was ordered on the behalf of President Sheridan to be the commander of the station. After her tenureship a Minbari took over the station, and then again a human etc. But she was still member of the Earthforce, while Zack wasn't anymore after the war. He was a member of the free Babylon 5 crew and therefore his uniform was the one that Delenn gave them after Severed Dreams. So its canonically correct that Zack wears a different uniform.

It is also sad that we will never see B5 in HD glory :( unlike ST shows, B5 does not get premium home video treatment.
@COMALiteJ6 жыл бұрын
Part of the problem there is that, while it was one of the first series to be filmed in HD, the kind of HD didn’t match the current standards. It was an analog HD, designed for easy conversion to NTSC and PAL for broadcast. Also, to save time, many of the SFX scenes were rendered in NTSC/PAL resolution, with the understanding that later, when it was time for an HD release, they could just re-render in HD (using Lightwave 3D, originally for Amiga computers, and which came with the Video Toaster) with the funds budgeted for the conversion. Unfortunately, due to a computer mishap, the data files for the models and scenes somehow got lost or erased. I think some hard drives were reformatted that weren’t supposed to be, before they were properly backed up. To do it now would require redoing all of the SFX from scratch. It’d look better with modern CGI technology, but it wouldn’t look _right_ to those of us who saw the original.

I'm okay with it not changing, so many things in the world get changed because someone wants it to look pretty. This show, its cast and crew, were more than just their looks. The message of the show is more than any amount of cute CGI could ever replace. Youre probably right since there is a jumpgate there and it would save valuable energy. Also remember they used a jumpgate earlier in the show so that the shadow ship they were fighting didn't know about a Whitestar having that capability. The whole galaxy probably knows what the Whitestars can do at this point in the show, and more importantly there not at war at the moment.
@acmenipponair6 ай бұрын
They normally use the jumpgate, as is the official exit and entrance to Babylon 5. Most major space ships of the species can form jumpholes on their own, and yes, it's at that time also known that the White Stars can do it too. But a. it's more official to use the correct door to the system and b. Babylon 5 is because it's a big unnatural structure a navigation hazard in a way (that's why it got destroyed after decommisioning). So most of the ships prefer to use the jump gate.

@@anelissetno1 The whole story has not been told, but it seems there was a dispute over how much Claudia Christian would be making in the new season. @@jerwheel ty! Had no idea about all that.

@@jerwheel What I heard is that because the fifth season was only announced some weeks before the shooting ended, they had to renew all the contracts - and Claudia Christian already had other plans, had moved on from Babylon 5 (don't forget, many of these contracts have to be dealed out a year or more in advance of shooting). So it wasn't really possible to have her in every episode. JMS even said, that if he would have known earlier that she wasn't available for Season 5, he would have killed her off instead of sending her out with a space ship. But as they had already shot the last episode, they couldn't do that anymore.

@COMALiteJ6 жыл бұрын
That was deliberate. In the pilot movie “The Gathering,” Delenn was in fact supposed to be male. The idea was that Minbari genders would differ from ours, so having a female actor playing a male role would make them seem more alien, because “he” would walk and move more like a human female than a human male. It would create a subconscious sense of alien-ness in the viewers. The original plan was that the Chrysalis would not only make Delenn ½-human, but also turn “him” into a female. When Season One began, they ditched that idea and made her female all along.
