⚡ / 🔴 🌙 Guitarists that night were Leda Cygnus (wigged) and Takayoshi Ohmura (great real hair). As usual BOH was on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. Su doesn't need to fear any of the pyrotechnics because she is made of actual fire. : ) That solo, and Rondo of Nightmare from the same concert, are what sold me on BABYMETAL. Before that I liked them, and thought the whole idea was a lot of fun, but seeing Su in full Metal Queen mode turned me into a diehard fan. The song title 'Akatsuki' combines the words for "Red" and "Moon". Which helps explain the red moon imagery BABYMETAL uses in many of their concerts. On the track listing the character "Kurenai" (often translated as a deep red or crimson) is used instead of "Red" as a tribute to the X-Japan song of that name. "Daybreak" (Like the "Akatsuki" in Naruto) is a possible secondary meaning, although that has different kanji. Of course I have to point out that Su was still only 16 years old at those two March 2014 Budokan performances.

Right from the start I think Su has you hooked. The band members are all dressed as Japanese spirits of the dead with funeral robes, white faces and long black hair...except for the base player BOH who paints his bald head. You are right that the guitarist on the left (Leda Cygnus) is wearing a wig. Su (the singer here) does have an amazing voice and this is one of her solos where she really gets to show her individual talent. To see a little more of what BM can do as a whole (with her band mates Moa and Yui) I suggest you watch "Headbanger Legend 1997". This "Akatsuki" performance is from Black Night, the second night of the Budokan concerts in March 2014, so Su was 16. "Akatsuki" is translated as "Crimson Moon". It's a hymn to undying love (or at least keeping it's memory alive) and uses the symbolism of the "red thread" to connect destined lovers across space and time; there's lots of red imagery in the lyrics of the song. It has a companion piece called Amore so that's another song to check out.

Good reaction. The Kami Band, as well as playing guitars, bass and drums of course, are also playing characters. Kami mean god or spirit and (according to the BABYMETAL lore) the Kami Band are the gods of guitar bass and drums, summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL in the Metal Resistance by playing with them in all their live performances. As the gods of guitar, bass and drums the Kami Band wear traditional white burial robes and corpse face paint and they are also depicted in any kamishibai (short videos that precede some concerts or songs at the live shows) as having long black hair. A couple of the guitarists (Mikio Fujioka (RIP 2018) and Takayoshi Ohmura - the one with the glittery pink guitar) had naturally long black hair. Other members (including Leda Cygnus who you noticed and the drummer Hideki Aoyama) have to wear wigs. The Bassist is BOH - he is bald and they couldn't get a wig to stay on, so he painted his whole head and added different patterns or messages on the back of his head instead.

Nice reaction, thanks! "Akatsuki" meaning "red moon" is my favorite song of all time. I'm very into power metal so that was pretty easy. I'm a sucker for dueling and then harmonizing guitar solos. But here we have the whole package: amazing bass and drums work and, obviously, the powerful and clear vocals of Su-metal cutting through the power instrumentals. It's easy to forget she was only 16 at the time. And yes, her death stare is legendary :)

If their hair is too short they will wear a wig as the Drummer Hideki does too . The guitarist with the dark guitar is Leda and he is wearing one. The one with the pink is Takayoshi Ohmura. His is real and is compliments about it. He just recently cut it to donate it. The Bassist is Boh is Bald and that's his signature look. Since 2019 it doesn't matter since the made them wear mask since.

Nice reaction. They have done this song many times in concert and every time there something else to talk about. Each performance grabs you in its' own way. One performance had Su fighting a masked version of herself during the Solos. And yet another after Yui left and they had Muscle Metal as the backup dancers. They did a real cool fight choreography during the solos. All just part of how Babymetal can put on a great performance. If you haven't seen it yet, Prof AJ Hartley has done deep dives into Babymetal lyrics of just about all of their songs on KZbin. Su has 4 solo songs from the first 2 albums. Moa and Yui have 4 duo songs as well. Since Yui left in 2018, Moa has done some of those songs as solos. GJ Moa has done the most. This performance is a good example of how Su is 10' tall on stage. Off stage she's 5'2". If she is joined on stage with Moa they can be seen from space. Their stage presence is that big. Enjoy the ride through the Babymetal galaxy of music.
