One day the girls were playing Barbies then one said, "I hear Death Metal is fun, let's do Death Metal.", they all cheer "Yay, Death Metal." They were actually part of a band called Sakura Gakuin at this time and this song was on the Sakura Gakuin album, thier formation is complicated.

Great reaction, that was fun. They recorded the song at the end of October 2010, the video was made on a shoestring budget nearly a year later, so in this Su was 13, Yui and Moa just turned 12. You were right about this whole idea would have been a huge gamble and a big risk ... that was why their agency Amuse provided zero extra budget for them. As a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin there was no financial risk to Amuse, but they thought it would be a short lived and failed experiment. With no extra budget they had to borrow clothes to make up their costumes, the Babybones guys costumes are black one piece suits with masking tape stuck on to make up the skeletons. Doki Doki is onomatopoeic for a fast or excited heartbeat, so the song is about a girl waking up late and rushing to get ready for an exciting day at school - it includes all the traditional metal themes of what lip gloss to wear, getting her bangs straight, just your typical doom metal stuff.🤣🤘 I don't think you spotted the little animated skeletons (Mr Bones) dancing with them in the bedroom - there are 5 that appear one by one as the video goes on. The girls were very proud of themselves - they taught the choreo to the Babybones guys so they could dance along in the video. If you want a song about a sleep over then you're looking for 'Uki Uki Midnight'. 🤘🦊🤘

I think rather than saying their Agency provided no extra budget it would be more accurate to say Koba provided no extra budget for Babymetal. He was the producer. I am not doubting their may have been higher executive oversight. But I think, as it was an obvious experiment, Kobametal, the responsible executive that he is, directed the budget accordingly. Of course, all we really know is the barrowing of costume details. The rest is speculation, no matter how logically deduced. Budget may have been spent on extra studio time for Su-'s vocals*, or on the session musicians and sound/recording engineering for the backing tracks. We probably can also be reassured that Kobametal is not the stereotypical evil producer, he only plays one on TV. And he pretty much acknowledged that in an interview. *Note: We can also guess extra studio time was likely unnecessary as Su- is apparently a quick study. And she had already done studio recording in a professional setting because of Karen Girl's.

@@johnschultz7765 I would be more inclined to think that yes Koba is the producer, it was his idea etc, but the purse strings are held by Amuse and, although they allowed him to try his experiment, they were not going to risk any financial loss. So it was done under the bigger umbrella of Sakura Gakuin and they weren't giving him anything extra from the SG budget for his pet project. Babymetal were initially self funding, borrowing clothes etc (the other sub-units were considered far more commercially viable and had costumes etc paid for). It was only when they started to gain an audience of their own and to attract attention that Amuse provide Koba with a budget to progress what they were doing, enough to make the Doki Doki Morning video for example and maybe see how that went before committing any more. But as you said, all we really know is about the borrowing of clothes, so maybe I'm romanticising, maybe you're leaning too far the other way and the actual truth could be somewhere in between ...

_Rin Rin Rin!_ Well at least you got it this one first 😜 Do • ki Do • ki☆MORNING is where everything started, they got 11 and 12 yo when they created the group in 2010 but the official MV was released a year later. But the girls look so young i myself was thinking they got less than 10 yo when I met them with this song around that time, they look mecha kawaii especially chibi Moa-chan and Yui-chan UwU They're singing about waking up and going to school while worrying about make-up and usual girl stuff, this a metal song after all 🤪 Don't forget to check it out the Air Dance version of this, with the girls dancing in front of the camera in this same room. There's also a funny commentary vid made by the girls telling us more details about the backstage on this song. The gothic lolita dress and look is very popular in Japan, later they change this for a battle dress with more metal elements without losing the kawaii details. I'm a little disappointed here, you missed the hidden little skull figures around the MV, you didn't spot one of them 😅💀 Btw I dunno which version you're trying to upload of Onedari Daisakusen, is it from Babymetal Reactor Resource? If it's then that's bummer, if not then you got the Legend 1997 version at Gans Tomas ch. safe to react, you can put that if you want, don't worry if you're watching another one. ⚡ 💀 💕 / 💓 ⏰ This song covers all of those traditional Heavy Metal themes, like waking up excited for a new day at school, and deciding on your lip gloss and cute hairstyle for the day. : ) Pretty much everything that followed was because the music video for this song unexpectedly blew up. They had a later viral tidal wave with the 'Gimme Chocolate!!' video, but this is what kicked it all off to begin with. At this point, BABYMETAL were the "Heavy Music Club" sub-unit of the school-themed Idol group Sakura Gakuin. There were other sub-units besides BABYMETAL at Sakura Gakuin that had more resources for costumes and video production, like the Twinklestars (Baton Club) that Yui and Moa were also a part of. This music video was a shoestring production, although I think they made it work, even with that small budget. Su's coat was borrowed from one of the Sakura Gakuin teachers. Moa's vest was borrowed from Yui, and Yui borrowed hers from fellow student Raura. The girls taught the skeleton dudes the dance moves themselves. This song is still a huge hit with fans when they play it live. It reminds us how far they've come.

Ah Doki Doki.... The days when they didn't have the budget to get costumes, and had to borrow from classmates and wear hand-me-downs, and had only Babybones pretending to play instruments.... look at them now. Oh, there are several commentary videos the girls did, one for each of their first MV's Doki Doki Morning, iine, Headbanger, IDZ, and Megitsune, where they talked about what it was like making the videos, you should look for them and check it out.😁😁😁😁😁🤘🦊🤘

Doki Doki Morning is like a proof of concept, but a lot of the details weren't quite nailed down yet. The juxtaposition of the kawaii and metal elements is most jarring and roughly integrated, the presentation is not terribly polished, but the concept is very clearly there and the girls have the presence and raw talent that will carry them forwards.

I love Doki Doki Morning because its so fun to look back and see how far they have come. In and of itself, its super cheesy and almost painfully cute, but as the first stepping stone on their incredible journey, its great. If you get a chance, you should check out the performance of this song they did at 10 Babymetal Years in 2020 when they're all grown up.

These girls first performed that song a year or so before this - while they were still part of Sagura Gakuin. They have come SO far since - and have just released their 4th studio album.

They were so tiny. The costumes they had to come up with themselves, there was no budget so they had to borrow clothes from friends and staff to come up with it. Babybones are Kabuki stage hand suits (in Kabuki, stagehands where black skinsuits and move props while actors act on stage) and just stuck white tape to it for the bones. Everything done is super cheap, and it really works anyway. Humble start.

But they had a catchy song and a lot of energy. Although I admit that the whole idea sounds totally crazy even today. But they succeeded against all odds (I believe that they company never expected this to happen). But they did and here we are, watching and talking about them because this song.

Great reaction. I was lucky to come across Doki Doki Morning back when the video had started to circulate back in '13. As I recall people had one out of three reactions to it: "This is brilliant! So original and creative." "I am personally offended by this!" or "Haha, what a funny joke." Even a lot of people who liked Babymetal didn't really expect them to become an actual band. Maybe they'd release a follow-up video after a while, which wouldn't be as good as the first, and then disappear. And then came Gimme Chocolate.

The girls didn't actually come up with this themselves. The concept of Babymetal was invented by Key Kobayashi aka Kobametal. That takes nothing away from the fact these girls execute everything so perfectly. Critics will complain that Babymetal is manufactured, comparing it to something like One Direction or Justin Bieber. As you said though, this is too high risk. No sane music executive would take a chance on an idea so unlikely to work. So the criticism falls flat.

@@venicerealm What's interesting is that, without any background on how this came together, you actually figured it out at 5:21 - an adult who was bored with what had been happening (in metal) and wanted to try something different _did_ attempt something that crazy, and even crazier, thanks to the talent and dedication of everyone involved was able to make it not only work but become a groundbreaking success. That was the producer Key Kobayashi (AKA Kobametal) and the reception of this Doki Doki Morning MV outside of Japan was actually the first indication that there was international potential for the group.

Nice reaction. They had to borrow the cloths for the video. Most of the money went to the video production. Babymetal first song is about them waking up late. And ever since then they've been telling us why they woke up late. Uki Uki Midnight, iine, and Night Night Burn would be prime examples of that. But I think everyone can relate to waking up late. I do use this song as an alarm clock sometimes. A good riff to wake up to. While the ladies didn't form the group themselves but were chosen to be in it. I'm sure they could have turned it down. It was a crazy idea at the time. I would love for them to tell the story of when they were individually first approached with this idea and what their reaction to it was. Just the initial pitch to them. we do know later when they first heard the metal music, they would be making it scared them. Yui especially didn't like the deep growly vocals. They also felt it was too loud as well. All that would change shortly. And as we know they have a blast performing it. It's great we have such quality music videos of them. Many of my favorite bands that I grew up with don't have much and the stuff they do have is usually a rather poor quality in the sense of the production and no high definition back then. They did the best they could sometimes. Other times they just didn't bother with it. It all makes me enjoy what Babymetal has done even more. See You

I WAS an old bored adult who had discovered everything, who came up with BABYMETAL and hand picked the girls for the project, the girls where a bit scared of the music and growls to start with. We have KobaMetal (the Producer) to thank for all this fun, he wanted to risk it the company AMUSE did not and they had close to no budget in the beginning (borrowing cloth and not having a real band - the BabyBones band are actors).

You always catch the coolest details 🔥🔥 For future reactions I have to recommend some important performances to you: - Ave Maria + Headbanger Night of 15 mix (LEGEND 1997 concert [Su-metal birthday]) - Shine (LEGEND M concert) - Rondo of Nightmare + Mischiefs of God Intro (Budokan Black Night 2014) - Headbanger sung by Moa-metal (LEGEND M) They are all pretty safe for copyright (maybe Moabanger has some issues). Of course there are other incredible performances and you'll get them, but I think these are essential to a Babymetal reactor. You won't regret it! 🦊🤘

Of course they were little children. The name of the band starts with "baby" for a reason. When production of the video finished they were 12, 12 and 13 years old. The girls did not create the band. Or invent the concept. Key Kobayashi (Kobametal) did. He was (and still is) in the J-pop idol industry and likes metal music. He created the Heavy Music Club as a subgroup of Sakura Gakuin. The girls had never heard metal music before. They had never heard the name of the genre "heavy metal" before. But they realized they can dance to it. Nobody expected Babymetal to earn any money, ever. The Doki Doki Morning MV was produced on a budget that hardly deserves the name. The financial risk was minimal. Now Kobametal is a director of Kulture, Inc, an Amuse subsidiary, and still in charge of Babymetal.

Those costumes are in the BabyMetal Museum and I think Su's jacket is from one of the production assistants. There are many more vids of the girls younger than that. Su and her sister in "Tweens" and Yui's and Moa's audition for SG performing Karen Girls "Over the Future". There's a vid of a very young Yui (I would guess she was 7 or 8)where she is standing (She's sooo shy) in an industrial park with a bunch of kids her age. Not sure, but I think it was an audition for child actors(Commercials).
