Ding Ding Ding! Coincidentally, as of now (2024-07-17) the latest music video on the official BABYMETAL channel is ... Doki Doki Morning (Live performace) from their latest Blu-ray release :) Seeing both versions side by side really shows, how far they have come, and how incredible popular this song is with THE ONE, still being played at concerts to this day. 🦊🤘

Ding Ding Ding! Su-metal was born in december 1997, so she was still 13 when this video was shot, while Yuimetal and Moametal were just 12 (both born in the first half of 1999). Yui left the group for undisclosed health problems in 2018, so only Su and Moa are still in the band. You can recognize Moa for her dimples and because she is the "smallest" one (Momometal, the new member who replaced Yui, is even taller than Su), but she changed a lot.

And this, their first song, was included in SG's debut album. SG was formed by girls between 10 and 15 years old. So it had to be obviously poppy but it's also crazy metal for that same context. Funnily enough, live hits even harder. 🤣

"Ring ding ding"⏰😂 Excellent reaction. The song was recorded at the end of October 2010 (Su was 12, Yui and Moa were both 11) and it was their very first song. The video was recorded around August 2011 I think ... and you were right, it really was on a shoestring budget. They were wearing some of their own and some borrowed clothes, I think if you look closely you can see the white tape used to make the Babybones' skeleton suits peeling. You are absolutely right, it was predominantly JPop for this, their very first song - they were members of the JPop Idol group Sakura Gakuin with about 9 other girls and BABYMETAL was the Heavy Music Club - just one of several sub-units and the only one that was not provided any extra budget as Amuse did not believe it had any chance of success or future. The Amuse Talent Agency had set up Sakura Gakuin earlier in 2010 as a means of giving experience, training and coaching to the most talented of the girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment with a view to their future careers when they would leave school. Doki doki is onomatopoeic for a fast or excited heartbeat. The song is about a girl waking up late and rushing to get ready for an exciting day at school gossiping with all her friends. It covers the very traditional death metal themes of what lip gloss to wear, how to get her hair looking good ... all the usual sort of thing.😁

This is from when BABYMETAL was still a "heavy metal club" sub-project of Sakura Gakuin. You can see an interview with them from around this time (with english subs) at _6CzXN14y4Q - to see just how SMOL they are (esp YUI-METAL & MOA-METAL) dokidoki means an excited heartbeat.. Japanese has lots of these onomatopoeia style words PS: ding ding ding - but it's really rin rin rin/ring ring ring. By the way your mic level is so low vs the video. Cheers

Ding Ding Ding! Haha, this MV can definitely be a bit jarring lol. They aged this song out of live rotation then brought it back due recently for a lot of their major shows. Still a fan favorite. I actually quite enjoy their grown-up rendition of this song, although not my favorite. Definitely check out Su-metal solos. They are absolutely amazing, and all 4 have a heavier emphasis on the musicians too! 🤘🦊

ありがとう！🦊 In the early days, it was a fusion of METAL and Japanese idols, so it has a strong J-POP color. At the same time, it has a strong METAL color. There are many fans in Japan in their 70s and 80s. There are even a couple in their 70s in the standing area where mosh pits sometimes occur. (They do not participate in mosh pits). This is the original music video, which uses the original studio audio recorded in October 2010, but the video was shot in mid 2011. Su would have been 13 and Yui and Moa would have been around 11 at the time it was shot. You're right that it was shot on a shoestring budget. In the early days, management weren't fully onboard with the whole thing, so they didn't have a lot of money to work with. Some of the clothes the girls wore in the video, such as Su's tartan jacket were borrowed from staff in the Amuse office, and the skeleton suits were made with white tape stuck onto plain black suits (you can see some of it coming off in the video if you look carefully). The guys in the skeleton suits are called Babybones. They were performers who pretended to play the instruments in the early days when Babymetal couldn't afford to have a live band. You see them in a lot of the early music videos and live performances until early 2014 when they were retired for good. The very first public performance by Babymetal was at the Sakura Gakuin Festival 2010 on November 28th 2010 at the Red Brick Warehouse in Yokohama, you can watch it here if you are interested to see it kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6LQc61se6isZ8k They do still very occasionally perform it live, the most recent performance being in March this year in Yokohama at Legend MM, and it always gets a tremendous reaction from the fans because it's such a great callback to their humble beginnings. The song is about a young girl waking up late for school and being excited about what the day will bring and what exciting things she will get up to. The term "doki doki" is an onomatopoeia of a racing heart, so the name "Doki Doki Morning" could be read as "Heart Racing Morning" to imply an an exciting or exhilarating morning (of anticipation).
