Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) is a Japanese kawaii metal band. The band consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal". The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances.
The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal, Moametal , and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" , with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto's departure from Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal released their eponymous debut album in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released worldwide in April 2016. Babymetal has also embarked on several tours.
On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Mizuno had decided to leave the band due to poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017.Since her departure, the band has performed with backup dancers at live performances. In 2019, the band introduced three backup dancers called "Avengers" who performed in rotation at each live show.
BABYMETAL was formed in 2010. In March 2014, they took the stage at Nippon Budokan for a 2-day gig, making them the youngest female act to perform there. Their 1st studio album BABYMETAL instantly made it to the US Billboard charts. They embarked on their first world tour, performing on the main stage at UK’s prodigious festival Sonisphere Festival 2014 in front of 65,000 festival goers and supporting Lady Gaga - The Artpop Ball 2014 Tour.
In April 2016, BABYMETAL had a simultaneous global release for their 2nd album METAL RESISTANCE. They became the highest-charting Japanese band ever on UK’s Official Albums Chart, landing at No. 15th. They also reached the 39th spot on its debut on the U.S. Billboard, becoming the first album by a Japanese artist to break into the chart’s top 40 in more than 53 years. On April 2nd, BABYMETAL performed at the prestigious Wembley Arena in the UK, becoming the first Japanese artist to ever headline at the venue. They completed their world tour in September at the Tokyo Dome for a consecutive 2 days with over 110,000 people to witness the massive tour final.　They have also performed as special guests in various international locations for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, METALLICA, GUNS N’ ROSES, and KORN.
In 2019, BABYMETAL flew to the UK to perform at Glastonbury Festival. On October 11th, BABYMETAL had their worldwide release of their 3rd album METAL GALAXY and on that same day, they had their first U.S. headlining arena show at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
“METAL GALAXY” ranked No.13 on the US Billboard Top 200 and ranked No.1 on the Top Rock Albums Chart for the first time ever as an Asian artist. In the UK Official Charts, the album consecutively ranked in the Official Albums Chart Top 20 from their previous album and ranked No.1 on the Rock & Metal Albums Chart for the first time in history as a Japanese artist.
After finishing their longest world tour of their history, they performed at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in January 2020 for consecutive 2 days as their extra show of their world tour in Japan, and restaged the world of their 3rd album “METAL GALAXY”.
In commemoration of their 10th anniversary, they released their first Greatest Hits album
10 BABYMETAL YEARS in December. During January to April 2021, BABYMETAL performed 10 headline shows at the prestigious Nippon Budokan. On September 29th they released their Blu-ray, DVD & LIVE ALBUM 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN as their final live film.
Yui Mizuno (水野 由結, born June 20, 1999) is a Japanese musician, singer, model, and actress. She is a former member of the kawaii metal group Babymetal and the idol group Sakura Gakuin. In October 2018, she left Babymetal due to an undisclosed illness. She is managed by the Amuse, Inc. talent agency.
Moa Kikuchi (菊地 最愛, , born July 4, 1999) is a Japanese musician, singer, model, and actress. She is represented by the talent agency Amuse, Inc. She is a member of the kawaii metal group Babymetal and a former member of the idol group Sakura Gakuin.
Suzuka Nakamoto (中元 すず香, born December 20, 1997), known by her stage names Suzuka and Su-metal , is a Japanese musician, singer and model. She is best known as a member of the kawaii metal band Babymetal. She is represented by the talent agency Amuse, Inc. and has been a member of three musical groups formed by the company: Karen Girl's, Sakura Gakuin, and Babymetal.

It is a bit sad not to be able to get news about Yui, she has practically disappeared and has kept an exemplary conduct on maintaining privacy, which we respect. At least knowing that she is in good health, and we hope so, that is more important!

She is 23 years of age now......i miss her....she was an important part of the band, but on the positive side - she was with the band for 7-8 years....most bands last 3-4 years

They were the first Japanese band/group to perform in Wembley Arena. X-Japan was to be the first, but they fell apart and never made it. Yoshiki (drums/piano & song writer) was in the UK and met with them prior to their performance.

So sweet and innocent at that age. My how far they have come in the short time since recording this interview. I wonder who was translating all their responses (except the one near the end when Su-metal responds in English) because I don’t think dude understood a single thing any of the ladies said in response to his questions, lol. Likewise, there must have been someone there to translate his questions from English into Japanese for the girls to be able to grasp what he was asking each time. Anyway, Andy, you are making many of my days recently much brighter than they begin each time I see you post something Babymetal related and I sincerely thank you for providing a diversion from the death and destruction taking place in Ukraine. Cheap Trick (on the t shirt) made it big in Japan first before anywhere else, as documented on Cheap Trick at Budokan. Where Babymetal has also played many times. My obsession with CT as a youngster has been superseded by my obsession with Babymetal. This is just classic. Thank you.

@@andyrethmeier I recently worked with a Japanese woman who used to work at Budokan, she saw Queen, KISS, and CT. I enthusiastically conveyed my awe of that to her, to her bemusement. I think one of the reasons bands with striking personas like Babymetal and Band-Maid appeal to me so much is the attention to visual detail, plus killer music. Saw Babymetal three months ago and it was absolutely thrilling. Probably the most original concept and execution in all of rock music, honestly. I absolutely adore them. Nemophila are probably the hottest thing going right now, just an amazing band as good as any I’ve ever heard, and they’re playing Budokan next month. And (shameless self-promotion) my “band”/project Paint and Copter have a channel with a couple of videos/songs with Japanese female bassist Ichinose Aoiro Ichigo, who is quite active in the current Japanese rock scene. One of them, Dream In Color, sounds kind of like an alternate universe Cheap Trick (the title was a give-away). Thanks for all your cool videos, I’ve been enjoying a few at a time and they always bring a smile to my face.

I've noticed this as well. Some of them are quite awkward but I still enjoy their responses. It's quite cute to hear them speak in English but when they respond in Japanese you really get an idea of how bright they are.

@@janc1978 i actually learned who they were because they did some European concerts with skynd like a week go. April 9th 2022 they were gonnabe at the knotfest in Japan but it was cancelled and today they joined another music fest i read it this morning but i cannot find it

@@janc1978 Only Sakura Gakuin ended. Babymetal is still alive and kicking. They are just on hiatus at the moment from live shows until it is safe to continue. They dropped a new teaser video on their KZbin page today if you haven't seen it yet. 🤘🦊🤘
