祭りだ!わっしょい!!🏮 It was the same with megitsune, when a song has a lot of Japanese culture in it, it is difficult to explain. Read only if you are interested, as the content may be a little removed from the song itself. METALI is a word that adds METAL and 祭り(Matsuri=festival). And this song is a representation of a Japanese 夏祭り(Natsu Matsuri=summer festival). For us Japanese, these sound and lyrics make our Matsuri blood boil. Matsuri is the heart of the Japanese people. It is said that there are a total of 300,000 festivals in Japan, both large and small. Matsuri means a ritual for worshiping Gods or Buddha, or an event held in gratitude towards nature. 神輿(Mikoshi=portable shrine) is a carriage for Gods. In the festival, Japanese people get around the Mikoshi and carry it on their shoulders in order to worship Gods. While carrying the Mikoshi, the carriers will yell "Wasshoi, Wasshoi" or "Soiya, Soiya" or "Sore, Sore".(However, the calls vary considerably from region to region.) 神輿(Mikoshi=portable shrine) and お囃子(Ohayashi=festival music) of Matsuri have a history of more than 1,000 years and are etched in the DNA of the Japanese people. "Pii hyara" in the lyrics is the sound of a 篠笛(Shino bue=transverse flute) used at Matsuri. "Dokkoisho" is the voice used when lifting heavy objects, but it is also used in shouting. MOMOMETAL speaks in the middle, that is 歌舞伎(kabuki) speaking. The lyrics "Odorin chai" and "Utain chai" are in the dialect of SU-METAL's birthplace, Hiroshima. In standard language, the words are "Odori nasai" and "Utai nasai", meaning "you should dance" and "you should sing". If you are interested in Mikoshi, musical performances, etc., please search youtube for these characters and watch the videos. When the Japanese see this, our blood starts to boil. Mikoshi> "2011 焼津神社荒祭 1" ohayashi(festival music)> "お囃子乱舞!" Festival dance> "REDA舞神楽 【YOSAKOIソーラン大賞披露演舞】" As an added bonus, here are some more.Note the voice of SU-METAL. "BABYMETAL - おねだり大作戦 - [SU-METAL Anger Version] 2014" From Japan🦊
BABYMETAL, with its roots in SAKURA GAKUIN, is back!😀 That's why it's a festival!😁😁😁 Welcome back! We are so happy to see our BABYMETA😁

Thanks from Japan 有難う 💛 and Hi funnytoss 😄 I witnessed the world premiere (live debut) on Aug. 16. What did I think? I got hyped like an idiot in the simplicity of this song and Momoko's solo speaking part with Kabuki style in the middle that gives an amazing accent in the repetitiveness. This song followed after the Kami's instrumental at the venue as funnytoss mentioned. Oh My Buddha! 😍 The repetitive わっしょい "Wasshoi" is a call or yell used in Japanese Matsuri (festival). It is a kind of phrase to intensify people's excitement and especially to encourage the power of guys who are carrying a heavy Mikoshi that is similar to a float in the festival.

I watched the fancam shortly afterwards, and was immensely jealous of being able to hear the Kami solo in high quality, not to mention everything else!

@flugelhornoldman1362 Жыл бұрын
@@mikepowers9486 Yeah! They are very busy. For example, Isao held his own concert as "soLi" band on Aug.16 that coincides with the Day-2 at Zepp Haneda. The guest bassist to soLi was BOH that night. Ohmura has been touring as a guitarist for aMEI, a Taiwanese famous singer. Many musicians want to work with Hideki. Leda helps several bands' activities. But I believe they will come back anytime whenever BM needs their help like they did in Makuhari shows this January.

I am pasting this video for your reference. This is Kyogen, a traditional Japanese performing art. SU-METAL's(MOMOMETAL?) vocalization of "METALI-METALI" interspersed in the middle is similar to the way KABUKI and KYOGEN are vocalized. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHOwp3h6j9OneK8

Great reaction - and Funnytoss is a great guest to have with you ... Great Job from both of you, thanks. No of course it isn't on 'Megitsune' levels (what is?), but this is a good fun song and will be great for the call and response in the live shows (especially if they have the Kami solo intros every time they play it).

I've given it some more thought: I think the song is slower and thus they can dance and sing with the same speed as the song. Maybe because they now have more endurance they can do that. 'half-time' was a way to deal with not having to dance everything at the same speed as the fast metal music.

Thank you guys, funnytoss has been a great guest on a bunch of Babymetal-related KZbin channels I follow. LOL the editing with the pigtails. 🙂 Their are also a 'are you ready?' with harsh vocals in the fancam, some are saying: this is also Momometal. As we know Japanese companies can be very... annoying, with blocks, etc. so having you react to the audio is maybe better, the MV could have 2 reasons for being blocked, this one just the audio.

Hey, great reaction from both of you. You are my third stop on the reactor's roundabout for this song, and I am loving this track more and more each time I hear it. I think once they work this up fully, this will be a fist-pumping masterpiece. I am loving the introduction of more Japanese instruments, and OMG, the Kabuki spoken word section as the breakdown ... simply brilliant. Funnytoss, can you enlighten us on what Obachan was saying? Is it older Japanese? Let's not forget Su, Moa and Momo's vocals; I hear them all in the mix. Also, Tom Morello's parts are a there with incredible complexity, however, I would have liked them a little higher in the mix. All-in-all, this was a great reaction to a Babymetal song that I think will become a favorite.
@funnytoss Жыл бұрын
The Obachan section by Momo was basically: "Idiots who dance and idiots who see them dance" "If we're all idiots, you have no choice but to dance" "When will you dance, if not here and now?" "Metari... METARI" The vocabulary used isn't particularly archaic, but Momo expresses it in a very theatrical way

I'm still absorbing this song, but I can tell you for a fact that I like it far, far better than that last collaboration, which I won't name, as I'm trying my best to forget about it. I like its beat, guitar work, and that Su's vocals are far more prominent than in the previous collab. Tom's sound is so distinct, and was a great addition to Babymetal! Looking forward to seeing the video!
That one part where you said it doesn't sound like it's Su, reminded me of another Suzuka, the one from Atarashii Gakko.

I‘m still in the warming up phase, but one thing I can already say is that it‘s not going to end up anywhere near Megitsune level for me. The groove is cool, and Tom‘s little parts in the background are cool (if you notice them). The parts where his guitar is taking a front seat I find pretty disappointing, to be honest. I have never been a huge Rage fan, but I respect his guitar wizardry. I don’t hear much of that here, though. That little solo part almost seems to be just going a scale up and down in 8th notes, with little fade-ins and -outs on every note (a volume pedal, maybe). That’s very basic, I expected more from him. The dissonant stuff at the end is not for me at all. I‘m sure the song is going to be great fun live, especially in Japan. Su seems to be evolving more and more, that loud and wide vibrato at the end was new. While it’s cool that Momoko has been given that spoken part, it doesn’t do anything for me (like that part in Oh! MAJINAI that sounds like a witch). But it does take me back to her impersonations in SG times, which makes me smile. I wish I could say more positive things, but that’s how I feel at the moment. I hope my opinion on this will evolve (which wouldn’t be unusual).
@ellamint360 Жыл бұрын
Finally somebody else talking about how lackluster Tom’s solos are. I find them extremely underwhelming borderline terrible. Almost so bad that I want to turn the song off after MOMO’s part. I would 100% rather have Kami Band lay down the instrumentals on the second half. People like Lil Uzi and Tom Morello don’t know how to handle Babymetal. It takes a special musician to adapt and meld with their sound.
