Yes it is often seen that the way we pronounce the word is different from what we write. There are few spelling rules to help understand this . For The word butterfly - English words do not end with i u v j . So the word butterfly is written using y in the end. Letter y is called semi vowel as it takes the sound of I when it comes at the end of the spelling. Follow the playlist “spelling rules” from my channel to know more such rules .
