Amazing rendition. As a cellist I'm impressed that you have taken the string ornamentations and made them work for euphonium. Especially the chords in the Sarabande. That was absolutely impressive. The way you broke the chords it sounded just like a cello.

Thank you so much. That and the breathing are certainly the most challenging things about playing these suites on a wind instrument. It's great to hear from a cellist that it works well!

@@JordanMooreMusic Cello parts are often played by euphoniums in concert band. Many of them are beautiful parts, but got-dang-it, it's just dozens and dozens of dozens of measures of notes in a row, with no good spots to breath. Our band director pointed out the obvious that cello players don't need to worry about breathing, so try to make do with playing that on a euphonium.

Very impressive work! I'm all for these masterpieces finding new homes on wind and brass instruments, and your recording makes this piece sound like a really naturall fit for the euphonium (but I know a TON of work goes into making it sound at home!)

@@JordanMooreMusic I am a begginer and I aim to have your kind of sound one day... So you play on the Schilke 51D LARGE Shank right? Could you tell me if there are diference in sound from small to Large Shank?? A Beginner can start on a Large Shank? If not how long do I have to wait to use a Large Shank? I am planing to buy a Yamaha 621 and I wanted to know if it acept small shank mouthpiece and if the Schilke 51D LARGE would also suit it.. I woul really be glad of you could help me with those questions!! You are the man at the Euphonium and really brings the meaning of the word Euphonium woh means well-sounding .. I'm your fan!!
@JordanMooreMusic4 жыл бұрын
Pedro David Rodrigues As far as I know, all professional players for both trombone would use a large shank (or European shank). I haven’t really seen any instruments that have a large bore with a small shank, so I think the instruments that would give you the best tone all have large shanks. But it would certainly be fine to start on a small shank, that’s what I did.

@theoutsideguy8 Жыл бұрын
Is he playing this by memory? Very impressive 👏 now do it on a tuba
@seth094978 Жыл бұрын
This is a tuba, and is the right one for the job. Euphoniums and bass/contrabass tubas were all developed from the same predecessors, and intended for the same role: providing the bass voice in wind ensembles and orchestras. They are all conical bore, and have similar tonal characteristics, just shifted up or down in pitch. The French exclusively used tubas in C above the euphonium for all orchestral music until the 1950's, and in British orchestras the euphonium was widely used as well until the early 20th century. The shift toward F tubas, then Eb, then BBb has been pretty recent and not always beneficial.

I played Euphonium middle, Highschool and Bachelors. Great tone and sound! But... the overall phrasing was bad in my opinion. Breaths taken in the middle of phrases, it disrupted the piece overall and it was abrasive to me. If the breaths were taken at more strategic places I would applaud it with full merits. I fully understand this is a piece written for a sting instrument without the need for breaths but there is a concept called phrasing and it 100% doable on a wind instrument. To reiterate Great tone on the instrument, the issue was with Phrasing and the choice of Breathes
