This, together with Four Seasons (Vivaldi) and J. S. Bach - Violin Concertos (BWV 1041, 1042, 1043), is one of my favorites musical piece of art. All of them move up my senses, make me feel alive and push me to do things with a lot of more energy. I don’t know why, but that is the way I feel, so far.

This is beautiful. I had the pleasure of hearing this in my living room when i was an art student. My friend brought her cellist friend over, he was going to play with Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for a year i think it was. It's a long time ago, i was only 21 at the time. The details aren't important.

This is the best recorded version I have listened to since I first accidentally encountered Paul Tortelier's recording, having never even heard of Bach's cello suites before, and listened to it over and over and over again. All of the cello suites are marvellous and inspired, but this prelude to the first cello suite utterly entranced me. This is a superb rendering. The only thing I heard to trump this was a live performance I heard from Raphael Wallfisch over ten years ago, simply because nothing can beat really well performed live music. How I love to hear Mr Maisky play this piece live.

So did I but my mother said that I needed to stick with something in this life, so I stuck with my violin for the next 13 years. My only regrets are that I''m not better at playing my violin and that I didn't stick with insisting on learning the cello.

My friend that plays the cello and I (who plays the upright bass) are having a competition on who can play this better and none of us sound good!! This man knows this song and I listen to him everyday when I wake up. Just so melodic and beautiful! I love it!

I don't think I've seen the comments section on a classical piece of music on youtube without people thinking they're all high and mighty for listening to it and looking down their noses at those who DARE have different tastes than them. Music is subjective, if everyone liked the same music and things as you there wouldn't be much room for creativity, would there? "Oh but Leelee" I hear you say "there's no creativity in today's rap and pop music! It's all about bitches, drugs, violence and money!" To which I would say that's like saying all classical music is just boring instrumentals, you're looking in the wrong places and dismissing things and the people that enjoy them for no good reason.

I've also seen people claim that they are intelligent for listening to classical style of music. I've seen some claim they listen to it to become more intelligent. This misconception aggravates me immensely. I've not seen intelligence correlate to music preference. I prefer it because I'm very much into music composition and I also just prefer the overall orchestration of classical music. I find it beautiful just as some may see a rock ballad as beautiful. It's all about preference. People need to drop the elitist attitude and just enjoy what they love.

***** I don't know, using the blanket term of popular music is problematic (unless perhaps, you're referring to top 40 pop music in which case the following may or may not apply) just simply because it's hard to say blanket statements about genres of "popular music" let alone it as a whole. Certain bands lean on image more than others, and those who may be more inclined to the image part of the spectrum might not be trying to give off an ultimately positive image even. I don't think a group like Death Grips is trying to look pretty or even pleasant, and they certainly didn't act or even sound that way. Same can be said for an old hardcore punk band like say, Black Flag. Gender can be a barrier for some genres of music but certainly not one that can't be overcome. There are female death metal vocalists out there and men who can sing Ave Maria as beautifully as some women. So yes, some things you have attributed to music that isn't classical can be considered applicable but you're painting with a rather broad brush. But sadly, no matter how rationally we state our points and try to sound intelligent, or how much we argue about the nature of passion in music, the things we ultimately say are opinions. So we're probably not going to agree on this subject since we're different people with different experiences that have shaped us yaddayaddayadda, this digression has gotten out of hand.
