As a young man I used to be a well-known musician, but in later years I realise the people who said; ‘slow down and feel the groove’ were correct! That was the point when I also became a ‘good’ musician. This chap will no doubt be a great musician at some point (when he learns that genuine feel is worth 10X flash and show).

I wasn´t expecting that many disencouraging and negatives reviews in the comment section. I listen to a lot of classical music, am not a professional player or director, but am able to appreciate it on more than a basic level. I guess the only conclusion I can reach here is music is very subjective. I think Carpenter is very gifted as a musician. I actually like what he played here and would not say it is awful.
@Harberton110 жыл бұрын
The problem is that it's not about the music, it's about Cameron. The Bach isn't even well-played; wouldn't people rather just hear Paul Tortellier playing it properly?

@intervenum10 жыл бұрын
Ability yes, lots. Talent: even less than the 10% you would want to acquire. Carpenter should devout himself to writing & performing his OWN music... Taking Bach in new directions is ok but this direction needs a distortion guitar pedal... There is just nothing new here other than "Brutal"...

I disagree. I saw him play at the Kennedy Center yesterday, and he articulates his chosen expression of the pieces very well (almost all of the pieces played he transcribed for the organ himself, by the way). Very deliberate, and this one in particular, he plays the original prelude and 2 variations (as you can hear in this video). And as far as the clothes go... he could not sustain a living worldwide playing nonsense, and wow'ing people with his clothes. Very talented, w/ great technique.

Your comments are so misguided and insulting that I do not really know where to possibly begin. But I will make an effort. First of all, you seem unaware that Bach himself was a relentless transcriber of his own and other composers' music. Transcription is viewed as a cornerstone of baroque philosophy. For example, Bach transcribed many Vivaldi concerti for solo harpsichord and organ, and the famous Preludio from Violin Partita 3, BWV 1006, also exists as a Cantata movement for organ obbligato and strings, as BWV 29. In fact, BWV 1006a is a harpsichord transcription of the very same violin Partita. Cello Suite 5, BWV 1011 also exists for Baroque Lute (in Bach's own hand) as BWV 995. I could go on, citing numerous additional examples. Suffice it to say, however, that I do not know which I find the more astounding - your complete ignorance or your obnoxious arrogance in denigrating others. Rest assured, though, that you are more deserving of my pity than my utter contempt.

I understand why some people like this, and are totally gobsmacked by CC's technical skills. He can explain clearly what he is doing (see him running through his crazy transcription of the Rachmaninoff Paganini Rhapsody). He brings excitement and new audiences to organ performance. I get that. He has an immense repertoire and is undoubtedly a great virtuoso. But that's also part of the problem. So much ability, so many options and so many different sound options here combine to produce disjointed and annoying kitch. That might be what he wants, and he may be bored by a more straight and faithful approach, but to me, all the extra fluff and extravagance gets in the way of the music.

Is it an electronic organ? It sounds definitively as such. Even then recording, loudspeakers or room ambience may not give full justice to the instrument. I have played some games on an Amiga, once, long ago, and heard some kids and so on, so even if "you would know" is funny and to the point there may be some truth in this "16 bit mario track" saying. It may be the best way to describe the flat sound in this funny recording, which is worth all 5 minutes. :)
