Exhilarating performance! Congratulations. Purcell - the gift that gives on giving, so many show-stoppers and tear-jerkers and then the depths of the chamber music.

So many thanks are due here, I am at a loss to name them all. (Not in any order of priority) [1] let me be warmly grateful for this group's disinterment of Purcell's royal odes: perhaps the most sadly neglected body of great music in the Occidental classical tradition. There are only a few duff numbers, in sum, within all those 24 cantatas. The way this treasure-trove was ignored (except for 'Come, ye sons of art') from the moment Purcell died till the middle of the 20th century is one of the wonders of human history. It is as if Mozart's greatest operas went unheard from 1791 till the present day. Please perform all the rest of them! Even the fragment ('The Noise of Foreign Wars') which was abandoned on King James II's debunking, is glorious. Then [2] the performances are SO GOOD. There are some rough edges from time to time in the singing and in a trumpeter, but Mr Valenzuela is so inward with all the music he conducts and has plainly so infused his sense of its logic into his musicians that these are Interpretations of Genius, whether they be giving us Bach, Handel, Purcell or anyone else. Totally tonic, thrilling. I write from the other side of the world as a rapt viewer-auditor via KZbin. As they say in the Shetland Islands (I suppose San Diegans, if they can be bothered to, will have to look those up to find where they are), so I adjure the Bach Collegium, 'Lang may your lumm reek! (Long may your chimney smoke!) What a benefit for humankind!

@Adesina Olasupo There's a complete set on Hyperion Records (UK) done by some very fine musicians - The King's Consort - in the 90s.

The counter tenor needs a mention too. Lovely. And those 'dancing' tenors! Thank you all.
