There are a number of spectacular bassist in the classical world. Edgar is special in that his artistry and voice are radically different from all the others. He sounds like no other bassist and his approach is completely unique. He transcended what can be expected of a bassist even beyond those contemporaries who are giants in the classical world who may be great musicians but not great artists.

@jbarbri I always thought that was kind of the point. There are other great bass soloists who play just in tune and with a more "romantic" style, but Edgar really has his own thing; there's nobody quite like him.

There are two different bass bows. This is the French style bow. The one with the large hooked frog is the German style.

yes, but even the great "real" orchestra bassist can't solo like edgar... I also read somewhere, "the Strad" I think? said out of the truely accomplished musicians in the orchestra, any instrument, only one in a thousand of those people have what it takes to be a soloist of this caliper...
