the prelude amazed me mylife long...i might say the prelude is one of the greatest achievements of the mankind, in its harmonic construcitions, contrapunctual elements, and among through its beauty...one of the pieces one can define Bach with...the prelude in b minor is a real treasure for all men and women.

Wonderful performance of this great prelude and fugue. I especially liked the relaxed tempi in both movements -- we can appreciate and discern the complex contrapuntal goings-on. The majority of musicians today tear through Bach at ridiculous velocities; nothing but a sonic smear and blur. I believe that people living in Bach's time we're not in such a rush, as we are today. So much is lost when we abandon relaxed tempi for the horse races!

Relaxed tempos? Did it ever occur to you that THE COMPOSER had a specific tempo in mind for each of HIS creations? The prelude sounds like each measure is two measures of 3/4. This person does not understand the designated meter signature. And why use 'tempi' - it is the only Italian word in your comment. Can't you stop being pretentious and just say TEMPOS?

@@organman52 In formal English the Italian plural is preferred. I do agree that Bach may have had a faster tempo in mind for this piece. On the one hand, it has a serious or "grave" tone, being written for a funeral, but Bach's counterpoint requires a certain rhythmic propulsion to drive it forward. An anecdote says he leaned towards faster tempi. If one can sense that creative energy that can hardly contain itself, as though the piece is writing itself in the moment, it is a success.

@@hugoclarke3284 Go ahead - continue to be pretentious and use 'tempi' instead of 'tempos.' As for the tempo of the prelude, it is dreadfully slow, regardless of all your 'insights.'
