I love his fugue here. I'm a choralist and I can easily hear the phrasing that singers would do during fugal sections of Bach's cantatas or in a tutti section of one of his Passions - he makes the lines SING here - so awesome!

Yeah. I noticed that too. From what I read, this is the only minor fugue from Book 1 that originally did not have the Picardy third. However, Bach used them less in Book 2. If some of his manuscripts for this fugue have the minor third and some others have the major, I don’t think Bach would care too much either way lol. The Picardy third does have an interesting effect though.
