This was the 5th that used to play in a loop in my mind while waiting for a Whitetail buck to show on the last day of slug season. Seemed natural at the time.

Janos creates a sound world which shows up Yo Yo Ma's action-concept of these suites as luxuriously beautiful while lacking inner energy, Bachian intention and dancing and contemplative joy, despite his recent committed achievement on BBC4 - herculean though it was...IMO

I have always held Starker's Bach Suite recordings very highly. I love how you can hear his breathing and fingers hitting the fingerboard! Something wonderfully intimate about it.
