This video is the second half of Kelly and Ryan's archery hunt, we had a heck of a hunt and saw a lot of good elk action. Pop you up some popcorn and enjoy the show!!

First off Congratulations gentlemen!! I thoroughly enjoyed your video/hunt! You mentioned changes for upcoming seasons. It kind of difficult to tell someone with your successful track record how to improve, but I'm going to step out in that area; Trekking Poles! They are EXTREMELY helpful in all aspects of back country hunting...especially when you have a large load of meat on your back...up the hill,down the hill,up the hill again . These poles are light, sturdy, collapsible, and there are many different brands to choose from.

Thanks, there is always improvement to be done. We have trekking poles and use them on occasion and they do help a lot, I guess with trying to capture video footage we have found if your not packing camera and tripod in your hand you miss most of what you should be filming so it's difficult to utilize the poles. I've had this debate with myself and go back and forth on bringing them. Thanks for your comment, appreciate it.

Thanks, The Bob is big remote country and worth the visit but hunting will be challenging. If you go in with the mindset that its an adventure and not a freezer filler you'll be good

Thanks, appreciate your comment. Yeah we have never made a dime off any of the videos we do and frankly I don't think I'd want to, then it would turn into a job. I just enjoy the challenge of capturing our adventures and trying to improve the quality.

Question for Kelley. What are you carrying for a side arm? Internal hammer? Thanks, Great shot. 🫣👍
@406highlanders
@406highlanders Жыл бұрын
I carry a Titanium Smith & Wesson .44 special with shells loaded pretty heavy, and yes internal hammer. We now carry a 12 gauge Mossberg shockwave as well. That has changed the game, when your walking down the trail in the dark with grizzly tracks everywhere you feel a lot better with that in your hands.

Thanks and good luck to you. I used a Stone Glacier Sky 5900, It was my first hunt with it and I found it worked great. I'll be putting it to use again this fall. My hunting partner runs a Kifaru pack which he's been using for the last ten years.

curious about what SG packs you're using on this hunt?
@406highlanders
@406highlanders Жыл бұрын
I believe they call it the sky 5900, it’s been a great pack. I have a Kifaru pack I use also. Both have been great packs but I do prefer the SG as a hunting pack. The Kifaru is heavier built

Thanks, we have a 12 guage Mossberg shockwave that will be going with us this fall. I actually got it after this hunt and packed it on a couple hunts when in thick grizzly country. Might be all in my head but I sure felt better walking down the trail after dark with fresh Grizzly tracks in the mud.

Wow, those were two Epic hunts! Great job telling the story on film. I have little to no experience in Grizzly country, but wouldn't you want to make a lot of noise vs. being quiet once you realized the bull was down?
@406highlanders
@406highlanders 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, appreciate your comment. As far as making noise you could be right, we were just trying to get the bull broke down and out of there as fast as possible. I’m quite sure there was a bear our bears in close proximity and the way the wind was switching up I’m sure they knew we were there and a dead elk. Not a good situation to be in for sure.

Awesome hunt! I shot a mule deer buck a few years ago and had to leave it over night. On the way in to retrieve it in the morning I cut a bunch of wolf tracks on the way, about 1/2 mile from the gutted out deer. I figure for sure it would be all chewed up. When I got to it, it was fine thank goodness.
@406highlanders
@406highlanders 2 жыл бұрын
I've only lost one animal that left overnight, Grizzly got that one but have been lucky other than that. Sometimes you just don't have a choice. Thanks for watching and good luck this fall.

@@406highlanders I lost a quarter of a bull elk to a black bear and most of a whitetail to coyotes. I have since rigged up a way to hang meat in the areas I hunt that is pretty much critter proof until I can get it out. I hunt solo a lot. Good luck on your future hunts.

Would definitely add the 12G to your gear when heading back to track/recover/kill site....looks like you often pack in with stock, so to have that at camp to then grab after a kill makes sense....did you have electric bear fence set up around camp?
@406highlanders
@406highlanders 2 жыл бұрын
Actually purchased a mossberg shockwave the day after getting home from this hunt. We did have fence but it was not energized due to some faulty equipment. Thanks for watching
