Work that’s not done right intentionally should 100% always be called out. That’s really the best way for someone to learn what not to do. Keep up the honest hard work my brother 💪🏻

Accidental poor workmanship can happen and is quite forgivable. Heck...that's how I learned almost all of my lessons over the decades was doing it wrong...by simply not knowing better... at one time or another and coming to regret it. But that's not what I ever seem to run into. What we see around here time and time again is short cuts and lazy work ethic that were performed by shops that were charging a fortune. Thanks a lot!

Don't blame you there, my friend! Chances are through the roof that it would have been regrettable to say the least. I agree with your stance on calling out shoddy work. Making mistakes in any professional field is essentially inevitable, when that happens though there is a moral obligation to fix the situation at no burden to the customer. And they don’t happen repeatedly. I work construction and the things I see contractors pull is frankly appalling. The customer is the one feeding your family, so you as the contractor have a duty to do the right thing by them. I can’t help but feel you are one of the increasingly rare honest painters that actually value their work and care about doing it right. Most of those guys are retiring or have just been run out by the low-rent outfits. That truck just reeks of gross incompetence or blatant neglectful practices by the last painter, either way they don’t have business painting so much as a mailbox.

I like that you called them out. I paid a company $10k to do my Peterbilt and they had the truck for three months. I got it back and the paint was peeling around the rivets. They took it back to fix it and put me on the back burner. I couldn’t use it for work and they gave me a bill for the extra work which I had to fight with them over because it should been done for the price I was quoted in the first place after they took the truck in for an evaluation before giving me the price. I had a budget and I told them look at it first and make sure you can do it for the price you quote. I drove it 2 hours to their shop so they could evaluate it. They said we would be an extra $2k. I said ok but anything more and I can’t do it . When it was all said and done, they tried to charge me double because they had to paint it twice. I told him that’s not my problem. You should’ve did it right the first time. I’m in construction I don’t get to charge my customers twice for the same job if I screwed up. Keep up the good videos man !
@teams.t.e.a.m62143 ай бұрын
I called this owner as soon as I figured out just how extensive this job was set to be and changed the price by only a few thousand dollars. The pressure washer alone was twice that much. Sometimes you step right in it in this business...and when that happens, you just gotta take it on the chin. One thing I never do is take it out on the customer. Takes a lot of nerve for a shop to charge you to repaint something they screwed up to begin with. Like I've said for decades now.... Show me 100 truck painters...And I'll show you 99 crooks! Thanks a lot, My friend!

Love your work! This is exactly the reason you have to be really knowledgeable when buying a used truck. So many a-holes out there ripping off hard working people. When ever you go to buy a used truck and looks really shiny and new, that is a huge red flag!!! You really need to educate yourself when looking at a used truck or take someone along with you. Never get your hopes up or get exited when looking at a nice shiny used truck. If it’s too good to be true……… Why did you not use paint stripper for the entire truck after seeing this nightmare? Keep up your good work!

Looks good... There are far to many people that don't care. The only thing they care about is getting paid. The people that whine because you call out someones crappy work are part of the problem in the world today. They don't want to hurt someones feelings or offend them. Remember, everyones a winner in 2024... Why would anyone actually pay for a job that was that crappy. You don't even have to be a painter to know that the job sucked when the panel behind the drivers door has 2 inch runs hanging off the rivets. I've never seen runs like that before. That gives a new meaning to hosing it on... You would see it every time you got in the truck. I would have lost it if that was my truck and I went to pick it up after being painted. Unfortunately for the owner of the truck, they could see the runs, but they had no idea what kind of mess was underneath all of that old paint, and it literally was a mess. Ironically I drove truck for 40 years, and I've also done a lot of painting. I've painted several show cars, my race cars, and I spent about a year painting multi-million dollar motor homes. You spray a ridiculous amount of material painting those things and I can honestly say I never had a run of any size spraying all of that B/C material.
@teams.t.e.a.m62142 ай бұрын
And while I have never had a run on a domestic vehicle...I have had a few from rivets myself. It's just part of the learning process and besides...I know how to color sand them out . So it's no harm done when it happens. To create a bunch of them and just leave them, however, is unacceptable. Thanks a lot for your input!

That spot on the back of the sleeper where you said they burned through the paint and painted over it I think is probably where they were carrying their spare tire and it was rubbing against the sleeper right through all the paint and then they just painted over it without sanding it out. I have seen that many many times.

I originally bid this one for 15 grand...which is typical for an average sleeper truck around here. I raised the price to 17 after I figured out what we were in for...but I only did it that way because the guy had already brought the truck to me from over 7 hours away and my pressure washer had already destroyed the appearance of the passenger side by then. So I took it easy on him due to those circumstances. If I had known from the beginning how it was going to go...I would have bid it in the 20 grand range. Thanks a lot!

Shit if I knew who did the shotty work. I'd call them out on social media. People either bitch about nothing or cry for the shady characters. People are weak. Good thing you have passion and give a damn.

lol crappy work should be called out, craftsmen continue their craft by ridiculing others garbage work. Sh!t is sh!t and should be addressed accordingly .. it’s your life and livelihood, only people are complaining are those who don’t have a craft or do sh!tty work 🤷🏼♂️. WOW that turned out amazing man! Never cease to amaze me

And in my field anyway...there aren't many true craftsmen left! Almost every single job that rolls into my shop has been butchered at one time or another by some slacker with a paint gun. Thank you very much! And thanks for subscribing!

It wasn't cheap... but I wanted a good one...and one with a Kohler engine on it as well. Pretty happy with it so far. Thanks!

Great work, what is your trick to get a good prep job around all those rivets?

I actually go over that in detail in the video I released just before this one...which is quite a bit more thorough than trying to explain it here. Thank you very much!

That one ran 17 Grand... but it would have been closer to 20 if I'd known about the extent of the carnage before the guy drove it almost 7 hours to my shop. Neither of us knew how bad it was going to be...so I took it a little easier on him. Thanks a lot, buddy!

HOLY CRAP! Wow! You took a piece of crap that looked like it was put together from pieces found laying around a scrap yard and turned it into an absolute piece of art! Seriously, all that's missing is your name signed on it! As for calling the other so called body guys, I agree 100%. Call them out every chance you get. Hell, if you could find out the names of who did the work, make it public too. They're never going to stop, so the best you can hope to do is to educate people so they know enough to stay away from them.

Ultimately if you want your Chanel to grow any and all comments are good for the algorithm..Turning off the comments will tank your channel..Just ignore them and carry on.

Naturally...I want my channel to grow. But my channel is run much like the rest of my life has been up to this point.... With uncompromising pride. So while I don't take the negative opinions of others seriously...Heck...I dont even think about them really. But by the same token...I also Don't put up with disrespect. Thanks for your input...and thanks for subscribing as well!

Hey, what are your shop dimensions and door sizes? Looks like a good size
@teams.t.e.a.m62142 ай бұрын
I'll admit that it looks bigger in pictures and video than it does when you are actually standing in it. I built that part of the shop myself well over 12 years ago with materials I got in trade for a large amount of paintwork. Got the property it sits on in a trade as well! When I started this business almost 25 years ago...I was renting shop space from crook after crook and didn't have a pot to piss in... so I had to be creative when it came to getting set up and independent. It is 30 X 63 with 16 foot sidewalls and 12 X 16 doors. Basically perfect for what I do. There is an addition built on either side (also built by us a few years after the original shop was) of the room you are used to seeing that triple the outside dimensions though. Thanks!

I do base clear from time to time. But most often I shoot a high quality single stage urethane that is called a 2K urethane.

And I've heard literally hundreds of horror stories from people and customers over the decades about that exact scenario playing out in their lives. Fixed hundreds of them as well.
