These three had magic together; you don't mess with magic. Ms. Wilson and Ms. Ballard are a big part of the magic. Diana Ross was great on the lead vocals but the three together had synergy.

I love the look that Florence gives at the line, "...and Flo, she don't know..." Florence is like, "That's what you think, Honey!" Blondie sure had a gift for comedy. LOVE her!

This is one of those performances by the original Supremes when they were at the absolute peak of their hit-making power. This performance is absolutely stunning -- great performances by Ms. Ross and impressive back up by Ms. Wilson and Ms. Ballard, beautiful fashion-forward dresses, and choreography that they made look effortless.. I am old enough to have seen this performance on "Hullaballoo," and everyone was raving about it at school the following day. Two years earlier, they were the "No Hit Supremes" at Motown, but, by the time this record reached number one for two weeks -- their fifth release in a row to reach the top of the charts -- they had become the label's best-selling, most popular and most polished performers, and they were this country's most celebrated artists. This performance showcases the wonderful way in which the three voices blended, serves as a perfect example of their elegant approach to Pop/R & B music, and displayed the burgeoning star qualities of Ms. Ross. Delivering this powerhouse performance, she is almost incandescent. Such wonderful talents and such wonderful memories!

Diana Ross worked them arms and body and Mary and Flo were on cue with their hand gestures and harmony as well as moves. This is their Best performance where all of their moves are smooth and flow with beat of the song. Funny thing is I was 9yrs old sitting on the floor when I saw this back in 1965. My how time flies

As much of a ham as Diana was, unlike most other performers of the emerging TV age, she knew how to alternate between performing for the camera and when the camera zoomed in she looked right into the camera and performed for the camera. Other performers at the time allowed the camera to work around them without looking directly into the camera and hold it.
@wonderboyjoy

totally agree often we did not know what an artist looked like. often usa tv shows did not make it to television here, or it showed years after the event. we had still pics in trade papers. when Diana's voice drifted over the airways, we sat up and listened. it was the voice that really sold the song. that first ooooooo at the start of baby love is a classic example of how the voice got us hooked.

the look; the voices; their beauty; no wonder they were only second to the Beatles; the Supremes were supreme! They were known as the Bells of Detriot; the Sweet Hearts of Song; all in a period of time when Blacks were not yet accepted; Who else but them could tear down the walls of hate like they did; they were and are the greatest!

Diane had the showman sparkle that took her to "entertainer of the century" and "most successful female entertainer of all time!" As well as Central Park, movies, and the distinct differentness that put her out front. Like all groups, lead stands out front, not in the back. Reality check!

For any of you that may have questions as to why Diana Ross was lead, it was because he voice was higher and sounded my young, and Berry Gordy wanted to attracked young crowds also, not just older people. And i LOVE he moves she does and what she does with her eyes, and her voice is amazing, if i lived back then i would deff date her!!

back in the day we didn't care what or how pretty some one was it was the Voice we heard over the airwaves. It did not matter if you looked like Olive Oil or Miss Piggy it was about the Voice, Diana had the voice and today people Still pay Top dollar to see her at 69yrs old. So it aint about how Pretty someone looks, its about that VOICE.

On this day in 1965 {May 11th} the Supremes performed "Back In My Arms Again" on the NBC-TV program 'Hullabaloo'... Eleven days earlier on May 1st it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on June 12th it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent 11 weeks on the Top 100... It was their last of 5 straight #1 records, and during the year 1965 alone they had four #1 records {the others were "Come See About Me", "Stop! In The Name of Love", and "I Hear A Symphony"}...

The Supremes would not have been THE SUPREMES had it not been for that wonderfully and supremely talented DIANA ROSS!! They would have gone nowhere with Florence Ballard or Mary Wilson as lead.I've seen and heard Diana in person a number of times---it has always been a wonderful and very entertaining and enjoyable experience!!! I've seen and heard Mary in person once and I thought " thank God Berry Gordy knew what he was doing". She was not good, not even mediocre. Flo's voice stunk, too.
