Back in Tambunan: The Momisok

Pantang Day 6
This is another long ass vlog and it took me days to complete it because for some odd reason, I kept falling asleep while (trying) to edit the actual momisok ceremony!
The Momisok ceremony is a cultural ceremony observed by the kadazandusun community and usually conducted on the eve of the 7th day of the passing. It's basically a ritual conducted to allow the deceased's spirit to take all his personal belongings and enjoy his last meal before he goes off to the afterlife.
Due to the length of this vlog, I decided I had to do an after thought of the Momisok in the next vlog. InshaAllah.

Pon, I love watching your video because: 1. I watch it whenever I miss our hometown, 2. You capture the story of life thru the lense of your video, it shows that you are just like any of us too, 3. You are true to yourself and people around you, you are a wonderful mom and wife, salute to you for taking care of your family sans maid. For the past few videos of your dad's passing, cant help but feeling sad too. Wish I could be there to tell you to be strong. I understand how it feels. Lost my dad few years ago too. I still think of him every now and then, I do feel his presence at times. Your late father will always be there watching over his family. Stay strong Pon. Dear Daphne, I watched this vlog whilst struggling with my own grief. Today it has been exactly a month since my beloved Mom passed away -- and it is still very hard for me to accept that she isn't here. She was my best friend. I understand you wanting your dad to give a sign that he is around. I too have been asking that of my mom, just a sign that she is okay now. There was no proper goodbye, and it was all too sudden. I hope all of us who have lost someone get the signs we need, and the assurance that our loved ones who have left us are still somehow watching out for us as they did when they were alive. Grief is something that is so intimate, so I truly respect you for being able to share these private moments with your viewers on such a public forum. I did feel a sense of catharsis as I watched this, and cried along with you. I pray we find peace.

Pon, I watched this again 31 Aug 2019, and i just wept as u wept. It hurts more to see iman wept & bel tried to hold it in. They lost their aki. I know that pain and cry so well. My bapa gone 17yrs and my mama 14yrs. Still so sakit Pon..but hv faith ur daddy sure would hv forgiven you no matter what. Somehow, today is my late aunt 100th day after her passing. It is our tradition in this 100th day is the last day we mourn for her. After this, we are prohibited to do so.. called my mum just now and hear her cries over the phone make my heart feel sad. Wish I was at home now. Seeing this vlog keep reminding me who is the best people and where is the best place in our life. Make me appreciate life more. Thank you daphne. Be strong!! Pen-Kch

Momisok is something to do with the spirit world.We did momisok when my father in law passed away but unfortunately when we did the ritual he didn't turn up.Maybe it's hard for those who had no experience to believe in this kind of ritual but it's up to individual to believe or not.For non Sabahan i believe this must be a good info to all of you.We Sabahans are in favour of mix marriage..

I dont know what eals i can say here , but I do think that people are all connected with the deads and alive .. Watched this in 2018... sorry if i brought back the pain. All i can say is, you will not be scared if its your loved ones who come to 'visit'. Eventhough in Islam there is no such thing. As in Islam once you are or someone is deported to the other world they will no more connection in this world. Nevertheless that is not the point but the point is I absolutely understand the feeling of Azmi and the rest of the family. Because, one will never be afraid if its their 'loved ones'.

I believe in ONE GOD. The Almighty. My parents believe in ONE GOD. Essentially the same GOD. (As there can only be ONE God as professed in the Kalimah Shahada). But my parents are Catholics and I am Muslim. I'm burying my father's body that rests in a Christian cemetery. We may have different approaches to religion, but we are all people of the Book. I must respect my family and especially my parents as that is what is said in the Quran. Likewise, they respect my decision when I embraced Islam. Islam is a religion of peace, as of most religions of the world. That is my understanding to it and I'm sure God sees my intention. Otherwise, may HE forgive me.

Dear Nur Nabilla. You're most probably from Semenanjung. I forgive you because you may not know the Sabahan & Sarawakian cultures and our LEVEL of TOLERANCE. Di S&S, satu keluarga besar Katolik, tapi seorang aunty atau uncle saja Muslim. It's a normal thing here. Semua itu pembawaan hati & how does you channelling your faith and thoughts. Daphne memang Muslim, dan dia berdoa al Fatihah untuk daddy dia depan kubur yang ada cross. She is facing the cross but her thoughts, heart and prayers were channelled to Allah subhanu wa Taala. Bukan itu saja saudari Nur Nabilla, di S&S, ahli keluarga muslim bersolat dalam rumah non muslim ketika menziarahi (stay overnight) dengan dinding kiblat yang digantung salib & gambar Tuhan Yesus. Tapi mereka bukan berkiblatkan itu, mereka berkiblatkan Makkah. Banyak lgi contoh toleransi agama di S&S, kalau ko urang Semenanjung, I welcome you to S&S to experience the diversity in our cultures & traditions. Ko tidak boleh ubah agama urang lain sebab itu ajaran mereka, tapi ko buli ubah cara pemikiran. Before we become a Muslim, a Christian, A Hindu or a Buddhist, lets first become a human.
