To win, you cannot be afraid to lose. It's much easier to walk a plank on the ground compared to at 100 m height because the potential consequences of tripping are so much lower. If you can mentally lower that plank, i.e. realising that losing isn't really all that bad in the grand scheme of things, you can usually perform much better. I've always had my best performances when the focus was on just having fun - if it's not fun, what's the point of doing it in the first place and if you had fun, it doesn't matter if you lost. Except in professional sports when sponsor deals and price money come into play, this is going to be much more difficult to ignore of course.

You don't always end the tournaments as the winner. However, that is only one way of measuring success - I still think you are the best, most complete disc golf player as of right now, finish first or not! Just do what you do, be the best you can be - if that is not enough, what is.

Eagle, you'll probably never read this. Oh well. Disc golf aside, can I recommend that you find and read philosopher Thomas Davidson's paper "Perception" from the second half of the 1800s? He proposes an entire epistemology based on varying scales of comparison. It might really help you be able to use comparison to expand how you understand yourself, others, and the world, rather than seeing it as something that will steal your joy if you aren't careful. Or just keep doing what you're doing. I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do. You just seem like an introspective guy, and you might really benefit from Davidson's perspective. Or maybe wait until the off-season, and then check it out. But what do I know? I'm just a random dude on the internet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
