I just got done building a 421 sbc with after market Dart block and a set of aluminum AFR heads!! Done all the work on it myself and absolutely love it!! I have also put air lockers in both front and rear axels and new 4.56 gears it’s an absolute beast and I couldn’t be happier!! @@skinnerhound2660 ,yes you and Derek sir's I have said that to people several times especially for most of gm V8 vehicles for decent mpg, part throttle response and acceleration from a dead stop and still being reliable if a quadrajet carb properly tuned correctly rebuilt they are absolutely hard to beat,I had a brand new Edelbrock performer carburetor 1407 750 cfm manual choke I nicknamed it the drag carb, did it have better throttle response than my quadrajet absolutely, did it have better part throttle kickdown response than my quadrajet nope and gas mileage was horrible and, the Holley reman 390fe carb I believe was a 650cfm had to be tuned for almost every different season or circumstance, and got horrendous gas mileage worse than the Edelbrock performer carburetor, I had them on a 75 Chevy 4 bolt main 355 with trw hypereutectic Pistons on a forged gm replacement crankshaft balanced rotating assembly,a competition cams Xtreme energy 268h cam kit 474/480 lift at 221/224 duration at.50 and 107 lobe separation, a 1995 set of gm 260hp 350 crate motor heads 991 castings basically a older version of the 882 or 993 heads, and a .600 inch of lift capable set of k motion double beehive valve springs, arp press in rocker studs, arp 12 pt black chrome moly head bolts, Edelbrock chrome valve covers script valve covers, Holley street dominator quadrajet, square bore and spread bore bolt pattern intake manifold, and heddman long tube headers in a 86 Chevy k20 custom deluxe c6p heavy duty 3/4 ton 4x4 chassis but it because I wounded it was on 1983 GMC high Sierra 6 lug heavy duty corporate axles 10 bolt front rebuilt and 12 bolt in the back never been touched needed axle seals with 3.08 gears they were from a 400sbc/np465,4wd longbed factory k20 leaf springs were bolted to them with the 9 leaf spring pack and the factory heavy duty overload springs, the factory th400hd transmission for the truck was rebuilt with a b&m rv and towing stage 2 shift kit a b&m torkmaster 3,000stall torque converter more like a 2,700 stall torque converter. And a low mileage replacement from a buddy's 81 k20 Scottsdale np208 transfer case because a bad rear ujoint I warned my brother to replace before he beat on the truck broke it, the 81 Scottsdale transfer case was 115k transfer case so shifted like new.

Just gonna give ya my two cents worth 'cause that's what this channel is about --helping people in a positive way. People call me at least twice a week or more for advice. I've bought, sold, body-on and body-off restored nearly 400 1967-1972 Chevy/GMC 4x4 trucks. Started in 1980 and retired in 2019. Dairy farmed until had two open heart operations. O.k here's the deal. If you really and I mean really want that truck to be very rare and worth something( I'm talking 50K- 70k) don't ever and I mean ever hack up sheet metal. ie. get a roof skin from LMC and have it welded in to remove that hidious sunroof !!! Pull that big block, spend $5.00 in rattle can paint and get 3K for the 396 and put towards putting a six with the correct Saginaw 3-speed back in it with a single exhaust, factory 6 lug steel wheels with correct 1/2 ton hubcaps. With all that done even not painting it , maybe just satin clear coat to preserve it you could spend as low as 5K-8K and really make a smart business decision. That's what I was always about---RESTORING !!!!!!! Take Care !! Good Luck ! Jim
