Keen as for HyprTitus, been using the old ArchTitus script for a few years now - KDE was such an easy intro into arch/linux as a whole and your gaming guides meant everything I wanted to play worked out of the box! (Barring a 2 day period where I accidentally downloaded 2 amd drivers somehow 😂)

I just settled on Endeavour, an Arch clone, as it uses the Calamares installer. I installed Steam and Wine to play my older Elder Scrolls games on my Thinkpad W-530.

I knew Titus when he was still a KZbin baby. He grew from a whippersnapper to a very complete KZbin personality. There is just one person who dislikes him: Dark1 Linux, Tech, Gaming. They should do a collab. It would draw a huge crowd.

So, you went from Arch, to Debian, to Arch, and then to Fedora, and then to Rocky Linux with Nix... And now, back to Arch....? That's a full circle, right there!

Reminds me of my old days when I would roote my android phone and distro hop all the time. I spent more time setting up my phone than I did actually enjoying the distro.

I now have separate computers with different distros so that I can acclimatize to the different distros without having to switch over.... I have Kali Linux - because I'm learning the ropes of Penetration testing; I have Rocky Linux with Nix - To learn the ropes of server administration; I do not have arch because it's a pain; I have Windows 10 and Windows 11 - for normal user stuff (work and school); and finally, Red Star OS - to spook out Mac users and to troll them LUL @@A_G420

@@A_G420 The amount of amazing mods that came out back then was staggering. AOKP, Beanstalk, PACMAN, Slim-Kat (and other variants), OmniRom, and Resurrection Remix. Maaaaaan those were the days. I'm sure some are still around but a lot of the features that made it worth running custom roms either went away or got built into OEM builds.

Also, on the gaming side of things, I may be the only one of your subscribers who is a fighting game fan, but imho Street Fighter 6 is the best thing since sliced bread. I love RPGs too and will get into BG3 and maybe Diablo 4 at some point.

What happened to Fedora? I remember just last year every Linux video I saw was praising it and that was one of the reasons I tried out Linux for the first time. Still on Fedora and it's been a really good experience.

One day I'll get around to base Arch and Gentoo.. but I have use distros that are based on Arch. I always come back to Debian. Debian 12 w/ KDE is beautiful. I know I know everyone likes to trash KDE but I have had decent luck with it. Normally run XFCE or one of the LX branches... Debian 12 is my home now, I agree with Chris, there can be only one (:

It does my head in thinking back to doing installs this way. Getting down in the weeds like that just wears me out, so I can't be bothered. Yeah it's a good exercise to go through every so often (not so often lol) to stay familiar with the process under the hood but largely I'm all about accepting a little extra bloat here & there in exchange for having my base install up & ready quickly. Also, I don't do an OS install anymore without full disk encryption as a standard procedure. I even encrypt my VM disks - yeah I know I know. But seriously, you don't need it until you do and by that time, it's too late. The unofficial Garuda Hyprland iso (in their community section of their gitlab) is pretty sweet. Still needs a bit more time to mature before it's production ready but man, it's really nice.

Just installed gBar & wow, I like it. Seems the only way to get it working on multiple monitors is separate line such as exec-once = gBar bar 0 exec-once = gBar bar 1 but it still takes up minimal resources. Going to keep playing with it (at work) lol

Would you recommend daily driving Arch? I've been using Nobara for a couple of years now and I've been really happy, but seeing Hyprland really makes me want to use Arch, but people have told me that using Arch as a daily driver wouldn't be a good option.

Prompted well copilot chat is pretty awesome, some of the recommendations are based on older packages/modules but in most cases its very helpful...IF you know what you are doing and need. Definately recommend playing with variations of prompting it, the more explicit you are and requirements you add the better the result will be. (no surprise there I guess)

If I remember correctly, he just got annoyed with it because his whole channel is centered around constantly tinkering with his system. Whereas nix benefits from spending time configuring it, and then being productive.

Hey Chris have you tried out eww before to make widgets and overlays and bars? I really love it after starting to tinker with it yesterday its so incredibly flexible. I'm just having trouble making hypr not put windows under my bar but I think that can be solved in the hypr config. I really love gentoo for use flags and having a development environment. I started on arch and switched to artix shortly after before moving to gentoo and really liked it! Absolutely my favourite arch :)

With the power of modern chips and the vast amount of cheap storage & fast ram, does bloat of something like systemd really matter when mounting on hardware? I could see bloat affecting Windows, just wondering if it really matters on a Linux OS?

I really dislike arch and anything related to it, they seriously lack QA for their releases and it caused me 2 wasted days trying to rescue this garbage. Fedora is the complete opposite, it just works and i hasn't broken since. Mind you, I got very new hardware, 13 series intel, 4090 gpu, latest onboard audio etc.
