please do more content on vinyl mixing.. vinyl mixing is still a thing and going from a laptop/controller based setup to a vinyl only setup ive had a lot more fun and enjoyment out of it... plus vinyl DJing will force you to learn the real core skills needed to DJ and will improve your skills for any other setup. the internet is lacking severely good instructional content on vinyl mixing and managing collections and selections. please do more content. 🙂

Tho I'm mixing with CDJ's, I would love to switch to vinyl. It's more fun not to have all the stuff that helps you. Sync, BPM display, and so on. I have always use my ears to beatmatch. Even when I'm mixing at home I cover the BPM's cause it's more fun doing it by ear than pressing "SYNC". Beatmatching is something you MUST know as a DJ. Imagine when you play at a club and the sync button doesn't work, what are you gonna do then? That's why it's important to beatmatch by ear.
@AmbientWanderer4 жыл бұрын
ditto that man. I used to mix on 1210's, but sold them many years ago. only recently i bought a controller to mix on, and i have never gone anywhere near the auto sync features and also always covered up BPM counters. If i used any of those auto features i would feel like i'm cheating

Mostly everything is physical. The sound wave is literally engraved on the record. You match the beats manually by listening to the cue. Without bpm counters or beatgrids etc. The concept is simple but difficult in practice.
@rickf63755 жыл бұрын
You rely mostly on your ear which you should do regardless of setup imo
@mrreleasedj5 жыл бұрын
Check out my vinyl mixing on my channel ( Technics ) seriously you might learn something no joke there Hmm sound advise would be , get a set of old Technics :) All music house etc 4/4 time 16 bars 32 beats phrase points ( release your cue ) holding the records that's the basics of DJ :) I would buy few records ( two of the same , tempo etc ) Play them at same pitch ( 0 position ) they should start to phase now you train your ear to those shifts either side of the phase points , pitch up or down in the middle is the kick drum , if you pitch record A up +2 st , if the record original tempo is 125 , it shifts to 127 now it's out of phase and time , all you do is pitch record B untill you get that phase point then find the kick drum , so plus 2 on pitch (127 ) match You keep doing this for month untill you tune your ears with various tempos ( records ) remember the phase point is guidance point with 2 records same You won't hear 1 if both records are different but by then you should understand pitch and mixing by ear good luck I'm expeirenced vinyl DJ from rave , dnb happy hardcore , garage , house etc
@1312_PV5 жыл бұрын
@@mrreleasedj If you pitch shift a 125 record +2% it goes to 127,5 instead of 127, it's not so obvious. A even more obvious case would be doing a +4% to a 140 record, it goes to 145,6 instead of 144.

Nice mix mate with the house selection on wax 👍 I think you played it simple there tho , didn't pitch up bit I don't blame you on those turntables man ( Pioneer plx 1000) Digital pitch and the minute you move the platter ( forget it don't do that 😄) Always mix real vinyl on Technics SL 1210 , 1200 mk2 or Mk5 ( analog pitch ) possibly best turntable ever made for mixing records
@256k_4 жыл бұрын
i dont really understand what is the real difference between a digital pitch and a analog pitch fader... i never touched a 1200, i only have numark TT200 turntables (they are cheap but good for bedroom) and i'm able to get mixes going well with them.. idont know if they are digital or analog either...
@AmbientWanderer4 жыл бұрын
@@256k_ Hi, to asnwer your question. Digital pitch ranges have set a value depending on on the tempo range you choose. For example a CDJ will go up in 0.02 inclines if you set it to 6% pitch, and 0.05% on 10% pitch. Analogue is totally dependant on the amount you move the fader, so if you make a small enough adjustment you can move to pitch by 0.0001%.

THIS ^^^^^ Even though he was only doing short mixes, he still had to constantly adjust the pitch or push/drag the record every 4 bars to try and keep them matched. On a Technics Mk2/M3d or Mk5 there is a much finer adjustment, and even at +6% or -6% pitch, you can match the beats almost exactly so they stay in time for much longer without battling to keep them in time. All the tunes he used in this 'mix' were the same BPM's as each other lol :-p

PLX 1000 is actually better turntable than Technics SL-1200GR that cost up to 3 x more. Just a hint if you are looking to get something good in mid range. PLX 1000 is heavier, better insulated, better motor, optical speed control that is more precise, lot better pitch and range, excellent for home audiophile, better cabling as standard, dust cover lifts off no hinges for better access, lot easier and cheaper to maintain and service. Why would you expect there to be? When you create a set you look for music that works well together. By its very definition it's going to be about the same BPM as well as they key of the song. Even on 1210's back in the day the only time I would need to move the pitch fader a significant amount was when learning new tracks and trying them with other records.

Any PLX users here ? Is that pitch as bad as everybody is talking about or is that just good old “Technics is the best and nothing can compare to it in next 1000 years” hype ? Never used Pioneer turntables but it’s strange that they would release a turntable with SUCH a bad pitch...
@AmbientWanderer4 жыл бұрын
@Nebitno Nebitno it's certainly different. Digital Vs analogue. Digital pitch ranges have set a value depending on on the tempo range you choose. For example a CDJ will go up in 0.02 inclines if you set it to 6% pitch, and 0.05% on 10% pitch. Analogue is totally dependent on the amount you move the fader, so if you make a small enough adjustment you can move to pitch by 0.0001%.
