But why are they talking about waiting until Ascot to run again? When he was running well as a 3yo he ran more frequently than that and he obviously came on from the run at Newbury Run him at Epsom or Chantilly for goodness sake

Around 10 years Martin. Seen great flat horses like golden horn, minding, treve, arrogate, chrome, cracksman etc. There's just something about him I love, as Alex says, your favourite horse doesn't have to be the best, just one that captures you for whatever reason.

Great to see him back to form. After his last terrible run I thought he might be retired soon, but that was like the old Hurricane Lane. Such a lovely stride on him. I'd have thought his next step might be Coronation Cup at Epsom Derby meeting, but keeping him for Royal Ascot. Mmmmm PS BBC website recorded the winning distances as a nose and 6 lengths. Got it completely wrong way round. Considering betting implications, that is such very poor reporting. They really need to up their game with sports news IMO. Shocking !

I thought Hurricane Lane here in the Jockey Club Stakes and Adayar in the relocted to Newmarket Gordon Richards Stakes both ran terrific races that made them both look like they were back to near their 3YO form again.

@@Martin.Lewis.Racing.Channel I don't really do flat early season just summerising the races it's won, it pissed up at Newbury Fred darling last April I remember it lost a bit ov it's form as well, jonbon pissed up at sandown beaten once by el fabiolo,cos jonbon is a 2 half miler , you missed under control mate 5/4, a quick spin around Cheltenham in march then 100/30 a grade 2 hurdle at Cheltenham in April then cheeky henderson put it into a listed handicap at sandown 7/1, 🐴, I'm out the way in Scotland on my pre flat break, galopin de champs beaten by fasterslow. Al boum photo should destroy galopin Des champs. Ere comes my flat handicappers from may onwards money spinners.

He showed absolutely no signs of this as a 3 year old though! Won 3 group 1s at a canter and placed third at Epsom ( where he lost his front shoes) and Arc ( where he was blocked entering straighht)! Last year was just strange he showed absolutely nothing in any race! Feel like the Leger/ Arc short turnaround left a mark on him!

@@jimross1629 The first defeat in the Hardwicke at Ascot was a little bit understandable but his second was a little bit mystifying, they blame the ground being too firm even though it was officially given as soft? A few thought Appleby had raced him a little bit too soon after he had a relatively hard race in the Hardwicke which was his first appearance after a long layoff.

@nightowl yh the race in France last year was a total mystery tbh! He has show he can run well over there before so travel can't have been an issue! Like you said soft ground was listed but even if it was faster he ran a stormer to win the Irish Derby the year before on fastish ground! Hopefully he runs to his potential this year though!
