I think I reacted because in South Africa it’s common for black people say Boss to me. It’s a figure of speech, meant to show some respect, humility and get attention. I dislike this because it promotes the master-servant/rich-poor narrative. When I hear a Western in Nepal using this term, it feels out of place. But hey, I’ve said “Thank you Sir” to rickshaw drivers in India. Ride safe. 🏍
