Back to Mosquito Lagoon - Fishing Report 7-29-2023

After a couple weeks away, I made a triumphant return to the lagoon, catching an unexpected number of quality redfish and snook in an area I've avoided for quite a while.

Very nice, you musta have been on the west side, on the east side with the west wind, I’ve run into areas with large amounts of floating grass, making it difficult to get clean casts.

Often that depends on wind direction. With the ssw winds that day, I didn't really see much floating grass. I was more in the middle lagoon mostly, so I don't think it would have mattered a whole lot.

Thanks JR! Yes you do. The bite was surprisingly good, given that I hadn't been to ML in a few weeks and had no real plan.

I noticed you said it was frustrating they wouldn’t eat shrimp. You weren’t using live shrimp, were you?

No, it was artificial. The only time you'd see me using real bait is extremely rare, but there's been a few times where a fish I caught spit up something I've put on a hook, or maybe I've cut up a ladyfish or quartered a crab I caught. I'd mention it if I was doing it though.
