I'd like to suggest "Drag Ropes" by Storm Corrosion. It's a side project featuring Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth and Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree. Congratulations on 500 subs!

Try "Ghost of Perdition", "Harlequin Forest", "Deliverance", "Burden" or "Faith in others" next! I think you'd dig all of them :)

Nice. Good example of how much depth Opeth has as musicians. One dimensional they are not. Even if it's a song not quite up one's alley, there's always something interesting, and something to appreciate.

For some reason only the first two showed up when I searched for Opeth on your channel. Glad I found these ones as well, I thought a "prog head" might find special enjoyment in their newer and increasingly proggy stuff. :)

Congrats on the channel, really enjoying it. Like you, it's good for me to find out about the modern prog, and like you I tune out once the growling starts. This piece of Opeth music was both interesting and enjoyable. Do you react to instrumentals, which is often my ball park?
@ophreacts2142 жыл бұрын
Totally good with instrumentals. In fact, when I'm listening to songs on this channel for the first time, I'm paying much more attention to the music than the lyrics. Need a few listens before I really dive into the lyrics. Happy to have you along for the ride brother! Thanks for stopping by.

🔥🔥❤Opeth❤🔥🔥 To me, they're the best at everything! *********I have a request from a prog rock/metal band. I just can't decide on which track is proggier, and I love all of their albums. 👇 The request is (song) Running Low by (band) Leprous. Please.

You'll probably like the last several albums they've produced, as those are more or less straight-up prog rock albums. They always dabbled in it and were influenced by it, but now that's just what they are. There are a lot of good older tracks, tho, that either aren't death metal or have very little growling. Face Of Melinda. Burden. To Bid You Farewell. A Fair Judgement. Prior to Opeth I never liked the harsh vocals, but through them I figured out what the point was. You have to stop thinking about them as being part of the melody and instead think of them as being part of the percussion. I've since learned to actually really dig them, and I listed to a lot of 'extreme' metal now as a result.

Opeth is great for getting someone to learn to appreciate growls, but it has to be through the right songs… and Blackwater Park is def not it… the three songs that got me into it are (1) The Drapery Falls, (b) Harlequin Forest, and (c) Bleak. Esp the last part of Bleak actually, but you have to disregard the first few minutes the first time you hear the song, but the growl near the end makes it so beautifully clear that growls sometimes is BETTER than clean singing. But a lot of the rest of the song is great as well (in fact it's the best damn opeth song ever, absolute masterpiece). The easiest one of those to like is probably Harlequin Forest, it's one of those songs that is both a fan favorite of hardcore fans AND an accessible death metal song. Just saying. Edit: also, make sure Bleak and Drapery Falls are studio versions, but in case of Harlequin Forest the Royal Albert Hall live version is fine (but studio version is still better).

This song doesn't really do anything for me. I'm not a huge fan of their prog rock era.They just don't hit the same as they're older death metal albums do. Their latest album, In Cauda Venenum, is their best prog rock entry in my opinion but still not the opeth I enjoy.

I am surprised that this song is so loved by fans. I'm listening to it for the 5th time but every time it feels like the first time because it's not memorable.
